    This looks fantastic :D. It's so wonderful to see just how far Elmer's come since you rescued him - he's definitely an extremely lucky hamster lol.
    Just a side note - I would be careful with the bendy bridge at 7:20, as hamsters can get stuck in the gaps and severely injure themselves (I personally know someone whose hamster's legs got stuck in one, and broke it so badly that it needed to be amputated). This can be fixed by getting some hamster-safe glue and gluing either some toilet paper/kitchen towels or spaghnum moss in the gaps. Apologies if this sounds at all rude, I just don't want the little dude to get hurt lol.

    • @planetfishness
      @planetfishness  2 года назад +7

      He’s an amazing little guy! Thank you for that! The bendy bridge when I bought it luckily I didn’t really notice there to be gaps however I did fill in even the tiniest of them with sand which made it only like divots as opposed to gaps where his foot or something could get hurt/stuck (the sand is super stuck/compact into now). He’s had it now since his other cage and I haven’t noticed there to be any problems. I also regularly observe him to make sure there isn’t anything wrong with his feet or anything since I know how easily their tiny limbs can get hurt :( Thank you for your comment and watching! 😊

    I would make the area where the wheel is completely sand as robos should have have half bedding and half sand in their cage because robos come from sandy environments ❤️ and add sprays, other than that good job 💕

    That's amazing, You did great! I would recommend getting a hideout for him to sleep/hide in. Since they are prey animals they like lot's of places to hide in. Great job for upgrading:)

    Some day you should make a cage for Elmer that has two bins with a tube going between bins to make even more room for Elmer to burrow and other hamster things ( I know nothing about hamsters). One side could be almost all bedding and hiding placed while the other could have his wheel and food and sand bath and water.

    • @planetfishness
      @planetfishness  2 года назад +1

      That’s a good idea! Some times I think about adding a second bin but I do get worried that some how he’ll escape if I do that (because of the connector pieces)

    The only thing I'd say that you should do (if you haven't already) is to fill in the gaps in that log bridge. You can use sphagnum moss to do it. His feet can slip in-between the cracks and get hurt.

    Thanks for the information on the log hide you purchased, my hamster that I adopted came with that same log and ik that edible logs were dangerous so I searched for the Petco Version, couldn’t find it so I just kept it in her enclosure since it would be familiar for her. I will now be removing it thank you! 😄

  • @brandyrichards3710
    @brandyrichards3710 2 года назад

    I like the idea, but cages like this and the ones they are kept in while in pet stores are not good for them. I'd recommend a cage more like a wire one so there is better air circulation.

    • @Jax_4200
      @Jax_4200 Год назад +1

      Actually you can make pretty good ventilation with a mesh lid like they had in the video, and barred cages often do not allow for the right amount of bedding unless you put something on the sides to prevent the bedding from falling out. In conclusion aquarium styled enclosures can do really well with hamsters if done right
