Good because I have a trip next February for the first time i didn't know there were short lines. Quick question----Is Splash Mountain always closed down for refurb during February??

    • @sieje
      @sieje 4 года назад +4

Kar Bear - yeah. It’ll usually open up first of March. Check with Disney’s refurbishment/closures schedule online before you go; this has happened to me once. I forgot to look up if anything was gonna be closed and whatnot, well, Space Mountain was closed the entire summer. I was arms up standing in front of the ‘closed for refurbishment’ screaming NOOOOOO!!! Bummed me out but I had a great vacation that year. Then I moved to Florida. The weather can sometimes get a tad bit brisk in February so water rides are usually not as fun or desirable; during the summer, definitely hitting up any water attraction. It gets hot. However, the weather is absolutely perfect nov - mar/apr; for me, it’s like paradise. Anyways, sorry for the lengthy reply. Enjoy your trip. Google 2021 Disney ride closure schedule.

Last time I was at Magic Kingdom it started down pouring and like most people I usually run for cover but this time I decided to say “heck with it” and stood in the rain and got some incredible and unique pictures in front of the castle with not one other person in sight. Of course I was beyond soaked but luckily I had a complete change of clothes in my bag. So if you have a change of clothes I suggest staying in the rain and getting pictures and even running to another attraction because the crowds will be gone. Oh and you will definitely cool off. It was 90 and humid when I did so it was definitely refreshing.

The rule my family breaks all the time is going to the parks later in the morning. Sometimes we even get there at noon! But I’ve found that with good planning and strategic fast passes, we get to do everything we want to. Plus I get the extra bonus of a happy family. It also skews our appetites a bit so we’re not hungry when the lines are longest for food.

My younger sister is the youngest person in our party and she will be just shy of 24 during our next trip this coming January (I'm 35), so we _never_ do early mornings. All of us are night owls, so we usually aim to leave the room by about 10-10:30am.
Part of our vacation is relaxing in the room at night after the parks close. We always stay at Boardwalk since it's our home DVC resort and try to have a Boardwalk view, so after our showers we always open up the curtains to see Spaceship Earth lit up along with the activity on the boardwalk below and curl up in our PJs to talk, play cards, or a multi player game on my Switch before calling it a night at about midnight.
My sister and I have also made it a tradition to take one night to go down to Jellyroll's together to have some drinks and hang out. Our family always has one dinner at Morimoto Asia, and this year she and I are thinking after dinner we're going to let the parents head back to Boardwalk with the car while she and I stay in Disney Springs to go to The Edison to have some fun and just catch a Minnie Van back at midnight.
So... mornings? Rope drop? Early Extra Magic Hours?
    We don't know her. 😉

Sci Fi Dine In was one of the best meals I had in Disneyworld when I went in August. The food and drinks were amazing and our waiter was a lovely guy who became concerned that i was exhibiting signs of heat stroke (spoiler alert: turns out I had heat stroke) and kept topping up my ice water all the time to make sure i didn't pass out. The waiter was also really good with my four year old nephew which I really appreciated. Plus just seeing my dad's happy face when he saw the theming of the restaurant was enough to make it a front runner for me. Although it wasn't my favourite place (50's Prime Time, upon DFB recommendation), it was definitely up there. I would rate the meals I had as follows:
    1) 50's Prime Time
    2) O'Hana (breakfast)
    3) Sci Fi Dine In
    4) Teppen Edo
    5) Le Cellier
    6) Sanaa
    7) House of Blues
    8) Arkeshus
    9) Chrystal Palace
    10) Be Our Guest (Breakfast)
    11) Coral Reef
    12) Monsieur Paul (Biggest Disappointment)
    13) Rainforest Cafe (Predictably bad, good nachos though)

Lol, there's a place in San Antonio where you go for the experience and not the food (even though a few food items are fun, like "Witches Brew" which is a fruit drink with dry ice). It's called Magic Time Machine and you go for the service because all of the waiters are dressed up as different fictional chars. I went there for my 16th birthday (got served by DC's Robin) and then when I got my associate's degree, I went again (and got served by Peter Pan), which included a food eating contest (between myself, one of my brothers, and a cousin, I lost lol). So yeah for me as long as food is okay, I would go to places for the experience. I am not very picky anyway.

Be flexible and alert during youre stay in the parks - The most memorable and magical moments of youre stay can happen when you least expect them if you are awake (and polite) enough to grab the chance. My photo with four disney princesses in Akershus happen that way.
Also dont be afraid to ask FP operators reservation personal if you can use FP or dinner reservations earlier or later if youre scheduele does not work for you. I used FPs both earlier and later and I postphoned a diner reservation when I was not hungry at my reservation time. Id have to wait forty minutes but I needed a relax down anyway at that point.
And make sure to have enough money for those things you want to buy - Specially if its a once in a lifetime trip. The last thing youd need to have regrets over afterwards is that item you wanted but felt you couldnt afford.
Also - Those parks are huge. Dont expect to experience everything even at a full day in the park so focus on thise things you want and dont feel sorry for the rest. They will be there for the next time. Johan.

Went to Disneyland between Christmas and New Years last year. It was crazy busy, but it was also an amazing experience. As long as you go with the understanding that it is going to be busy (and even then we underestimated how busy it would be) it can be a great time. Ultimately, the trip is what you make of it.

    • @vanessanielson3268

"Ultimately the trip is what you make of it" is absolutely right and great advice. My husband and I have been three times just us together, but this next trip we'll be taking our (then) seven year old for the first time. He's talked a lot about wanting to ride a lot of what we've ridden in the past, but we're definitely trying to manage our expectations just in case he rides Barnstormer once and decides he doesn't like thrill rides and we end up riding a lot of Winnie the Pooh. (We do have extended family coming too, and they promised to give us a chance to ourselves, so maybe that helps.) Mostly we just want to focus on letting him enjoy his first trip to the fullest, rather than trying to shoehorn in every last thing *we* want to do. Figuring out what is most important is key!

I think my favorite was also at Crystal Palace. We were a late night reservation, around 9:30-10pm, and, as night owls, it wasn’t a terrible time. We had all the characters come around multiple times. Piglet ended up sitting down with us and flirting with my older sister (the mom at the table), and even danced with her. Another fond memory was being the last people in Liberty Tavern. Once more, we were one of the last in the restaurant. Chip and Dale came out and stole my best friend’s purse and chased one another around the tavern as other cast members were sweeping and cleaning up. I suggest this for my fellow night owls! It’s a great way to keep your late morning and not miss out on magical character meals and interactions.

We managed to get the last resort room available anywhere on the property - in Disney All-Stars Music, farthest room from the bus stop. But getting to see WDW during Christmas was amazing, and worth the extra-long walk to and from our room.

I had a home in the Orlando area since before the parks open - I actually went to the Empress Lily BEFORE the parks opened. Half of my family is from hat area - and I also went to the Orange Festivals before Disney. I have access to all the Disney Transportation - with my Annual Pass. If you are looking for a quick cheap vacation - that normally means staying off site - and a 15 minute ride can save you LOTS of money. Yes - IF you can afford the Bubble it can be worth it too - but for some whose choice is Outside the park - or going to the zoo at home - It is not that much of a problem

I'm so thankful for all of your videos AJ and DFB! My whole family went last week to celebrate my 60th birthday; We used so many of your tips and tricks. I wore a birthday button all 3 days we were at the parks and at special dinners. I was greeted by so many cast members and got a free cupcake dessert at Boma; the waiters sang to me at Boatwrights and the band wished me a Happy Birthday before playing it for all the birthday peeps at Biergarten! My son-in-law had a lot to do with this I expect! Even one of the green army men yelled out "Kathy, Happy Birthday"!!! We also learned how short the lines are just before closing; we had an evening FP for Expedition Everest (which was SOOOOOO amazing in the dark) and were able to run right back on with no line as it was just about 8:00. My post is so long but the crown jewel of the trip is that we ended the night Friday at AK and tried our luck on Flight of Passage, which we were unable to get a FP for; we literally ran thru the entire outside of the queue area without catching up to anyone! The whole experience took only about 30 minutes! The perfect end to a magical trip!

I totally book fastpasses for evening if I want a twilight safari or riding a rollercoaster at night. Yes it ties up the opportunity for a 4th or 5th fastpass, but it's more worth it to get what I want. If I'm parkhopping sometimes I book for the 2nd park after our afternoon break because those attractions are more important.
I also agree with planning and ditching the plans. Flexibility is key to enjoying Disney, but winging it doesn't work. You have to start somewhere and have your plan in place, then you can wing your changes of plans as you go. The important thing with planning is not overplanning ADRs. That's one thing you have to stick to unless you cancel way in advance. And every restaurant is different on their cancellation policies. Most are 24hr and $10pp, but it may not be true in every circumstance. Buffets may charge full price, etc. Read the fine print when you reserve.

I made the mistake of going back. The crowds make the experience absolutely unbearable. It’s a total cash grab right now. Sorry it won’t ever get better until they open another park, or two, and stop building more resorts.

Do you have a video where you talk about what you’d do on holiday to Disney World if you you could only go once for a limited time, say like two weeks? Like where you’d stay and the things you’d absolutely prioritise? And if so would you consider it? For people abroad it’s often a once in a lifetime trip so would be fantastic to see how you recommend how to make the absolute most of it!!

Hoop Dee Doo Review is a Perfect Example.
We brought our daughter when she was 3 and as the cast came through the audience to leave we got a picture with one of the men. My daughter then turned to me and said “I like that guy.”
She is now 27 and he continues to work at the parks. Last time we saw him she was one of the sharks in Finding Nemo.
We have gone back to Hoop Dee Do Review and enjoyed it. It’s a memory we continue to enjoy and we continue to look for this cast member with each new show.
My daughter is also now as castmember. 😊

My fiance and I are going to Disney for our honeymoon this year, and apparently making tons of mistakes! First of all, it's during the holiday, and on top of that we haven't been able to get any discounts for our rooms or dining. But we decided that the Christmas atmosphere was most important to us, and also staying in the hotels we wanted (a couple nights in the Grand Floridian, then going on to the French Quarter) were worth the extra cost. It's all about priorities!

My son (5 at the time), had the meal plan on his magic band (but not the credit card!). This meant he could get all the snacks he wanted. He decided he was getting a Mickey Bar EVERY DAY. He was mildly disappointed when a CM gave him one in Epcot as pixie dust bc he didn't get to use his band! :) That trip was very kid-driven. When he wanted to ride something, we stood in line (after explaining how long it would be). When he wanted to go swim, we did. Even tried naps, which didn't always happen.
We also did some very late ADRs, including one that let us watch the EPCOT fireworks from dinner. From which we turned around and discovered my niece had fallen asleep on the table. Oops. Might have been a little too late.

We just got back from Disney World and used Lyft to get to dinning at the Grand Floridian. I found that the estimated cost of using just a regular Lyft was about $15. The cost, through the Lyft app, for the Minnie Van would have been $40! There are only two advantages that I can see for the Minnie Van. First, they have child seats, which not all Uber or Lyft drivers have. There's a law in Florida that children of a certain age or size must use a child car set. Second, the Minnie Van can drop you off right at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom, whereas all the other ride sharing services have to drop you off at the TTC. The difference in cost between a regular Lyft and a Minnie Van is incredible.

On more than one occasion, I've gone on a holiday and had it be less crowded on that day than the other days I've gone. Maybe everyone has that mentality that it will be crowded? I've gone on 4th of July, Labor Day, and Easter. None were as crowded as the days before or after that holiday. I'm going on Thanksgiving this trip and I'm sure it will be fine as I got a Peter Pan FP that day, and wasn't able to any of the other dates.

I had an awful experience with the Disney buses the last time I was there. It was late and everyone was leaving the Magic Kingdom, and there were absolutely NO BUSES to Art of Animation, where we were staying. We stood in the line for an hour, and in that hour, SEVEN BUSES WITH NO ONE IN THEM went to the Transportation and Ticket Center. WHO THE HECK IS GOING TO THE TTC AT 11:00 AT NIGHT??? Me and my dad eventually were like, screw it, were hopping on a Pop Century bus and walking. There also had only been one bus for Pop Century in that hour. The bus to Pop finally came, still no bus to Art of Animation, and if that bus ride could have a name it would be "Are you claustrophobic? No? Well, you are now." There were so many people on the bus, it was so crowded. I don't know why we didn't just call an Uber.

It's pricey, but if it's within your budget (and your niece is into this sort of thing) the Bippity Boppity Boutique does full princess makeovers that could be a fun way to celebrate. Just make sure that even if you get heels with the outfit that she still wears her regular park shoes - no one likes having blisters at the park, even in the name of fashion.

Often, I have a need to be in Central Florida at the spur of the moment - which means that Disney Restaurants are likely not available - but I found out a trick. There are several Disney Restaurants where you sit together with others on long tables - and as a SINGLE - if you tell the person on the other end of the line at Disney first - they will look for tables with an odd number of reservations for it. I have always managed to get something. I do not know if that will work in the Pandemic though

    • @kriscynical
      @kriscynical 4 года назад +3

Tip: hang on to your butts and pray to survive. lol
In all seriousness though, it will be very _very_ crowded so be mindful of keeping track of each other to not get separated, especially if you have young kids with you. I think most table service restaurants have some semblance of a Thanksgiving dinner the day of, and ADRs are a must for the entire trip if you want one "solid" meal a day that isn't fast food.
Also if you have young kids try to make sure they don't wait until it's an emergency to say they need to use the bathroom, because although I haven't been there for Thanksgiving (friends have), during Spring Break there were 10+ minute lines for even the lesser known bathroom locations!
