  • Have you dreamed about having a flat cable at hand for your project?
Well, sooner or later, your projects are going to require such a thing.
What about buying one? You can surely try, but in most cases it won’t be at the size you need and maybe not at the price you were ready to pay for.
As in so many other cases though, there is a solution to that: make it yourself.
    What do you need?
    #1-the flat cable
    #2-IDC connectors
    #3-a crimping tool.
All the three can be easily found at reasonable prices from various distributors, not necessarily on Amazon.
Not only you can make these cables at the length you want, but you can make as many as needed, any time. And more, you can also make special cables like the one I am showing you in the video, with multiple connectors -not available to buy btw.
Enjoy handling the tools and thanks for watching!
    CU soon.

one main advantage of the IDC style cables is the connector itself. Designing circuits using IDC style connectors like the video shows is straightforward to understand the alignment because the connector on each side pin1 means pin1. it is easy to link and debug because the connector can be rotated up or down, preserving the polarity. the designed has a valuable connector for medium frequency signals that is cheap and easy to replace.

@CallistoPili Thank you for your remarks.
As a side note: both the M and F connectors are provided with a notch. And still, having an IDC cable between the PLC units and the output trainers, some of my students won't pay attention to the notch. And so, if you just push it a bit, you can place the F connector cable upside down despite the notch! This may be a challenge for the design... Regards
