What's funny is that we used to build these exact things out of bedsheets and box fans ALL THE TIME in the early 70's when we were kids. We had multiple box fans so we could build many interesting inflatable tents with that stuff. It looks like someone out there used to do that when they were kids too, and decided to market it. It seems that me and my friends were on the rare side when it came to playing in these inflatable bedsheet/box fan tents because I've never met anyone else who knew what I'm talking about when I bring them up nowadays, and so many people are seeing products like this and thinking that it's a new thing. All your kids need is a couple very light sets of bedsheets and some strong box fans and they're golden.
classic case of " am i the only one " born in 88 and did the same as a kid, but the sheets were so heavy / fan so shitty we used couch cushions / chairs as supports. The fan was used to keep it cool more or less, not to inflate the tent area. This is really cool imo and is leaps and bounds ahead of the collapsible cube style play huts.
@@WhatsGahd We actually had some really cheap and light sheets and some pretty powerful box fans from the 60's. Big, honkin' metal ones that could probably have flown if we put wings on them.
Yup, I did the same thing when I was a kid and played in it with my brother and sisters and stayed cool during the summer. Fell asleep once in a while. It was fun!
Here's a friendly suggestion.....Whenever you need to fit a "seemingly" large cloth item into a "seemingly" small storage bag, you'll be able to make the item as small as possible by rolling it rather than folding it. (This concept works for getting lots of clothes into suitcases, too. )
putting the clothes flat inside the suitcase is even better, ive tried all types, rolling, folding, compressed air bags, i still prefer just laying them flat
I bought my son one of these for Christmas a few years back and he still loves to inflate it and fill it with blankets and pillows and all kinds of stuff and we sit in there and watch TV out the door and eat snacks. Good times. 👍
As neat as this would be for a kid nowadays nothing beat the creativity that came with pulling cushions off multiple couches/seats with pillows and bed sheets.
Exactly! I work with elementary kids, and they don't have spatial awareness beyond what they can build with Legos. They also don't have much creativity and struggle with coming up with their own ideas. Toy companies have to stop doing all the work for kids and let them explore the world without a plan or a picture to copy,
It kind of reminds me of Jiffy Pop, for those old enough to remember the stove top popcorn popper, I can imagine the noise from the fan/blower can get a bit annoying, but otherwise kind of cool
I want one of these for my bed for Migraines and when I'm feeling overstimulated. I use a fitted sheet currently, but that only covers half my bed. This would probably be great for summer sleeping too!
The fan on high can be a lot of noise, so I'm not sure if it would be good for a migraine. Also, we've tried it over the bed and it just can't maintain the "float" effect that it sounds like you're wanting. It's a floor only item.
My long term job is ending in 6 weeks and I think I want one of these in my living room so I can spend an uninterrupted week decompressing and planning my next move.
It can stay inflated, but it's just not as floaty and less responsive to the entrance and exit air changes. The back doesn't have a cinch (not sure if you could add one), but you can tuck the straps into the back of the fan if it's not a square box fan. Basically, anything other than the recommendations and your experience may not be as ideal, but could still semi-functional for you.
The one thing that I think deserved mention was how breathable the fabric used was. Is it the sort of thing where if the fort fell on your face from like the fan going out, would you be able to breathe?
I love seeing the human dog bed in the intro Edit to add: seems like it could make a good "personal space" tent, or a small paint tent if you're careful about mesh
I used to do this all the time as a kid with big sheets. (Not for children you can't trust around the fan.) The tricky part is attaching it to the fan. If it's an old sheet, you can bend small paperclips into S-hooks, poke them through the edge of the sheet and hook them around the edge of the fan grill. Or, if the sheet is big enough, you can just turn the fan on and put a few inches worth of the sheet edge around the backside edge of the fan, tuck the two corners under the bottom, and the suction will hold it in place. Then you just have to take some heavy objects inside to pin down the sheet edges to the floor. It's a great way to stay cool in a hot house.
There have always been indoor kids' tents. I remember my siblings and I having one over 20 years ago, and its existence didn't prevent us from making forts from scratch, too. It's just two different kinds of fun.
Wow that looks like so much fun and practical! _Sadly_ I'm not a kid anymore and I don't need a place to hide from my brother's envy. BTW once I built a "wind tunnel" combining your big blanket fort idea with a box fan, with a friend throwing talcum on the air stream to increase the difficulty LOL
Our daughters got one for Christmas. It’s been amazing! I think if I were to buy it for myself then a $30 price point would have felt more fair. But it’s still an amazing product
$50 AND you have to supply your own fan that you're going to mar with the velcro buttons which might come unstuck over time is asking a lot. Plus, half the fun of blanket forts is building them! Kids might still love it, though; especially kids with any disability or other obstacle that prevents them from building their own fort. It might also be great for people with certain neurological or sensory issues. As an autist myself, I felt comfortable as soon as you showed yourself inside of it. Kind of like a cat, being out of sight is a huge comfort sometimes for people like me; even if it's just a thin layer of fabric separating you from others.
We used to do this as kids in the heat of the summer time back in the 70s and 80s to keep cool. Buying and ac were too expensive at the time. We used a bed sheet with a box fan and place something heavy on the corners of the end and sides of the sheet.
QUESTION: Once the fort is inflated, do you need to keep the fan on HIGH for it to stay inflated? I had seen an ad for these and recommended one for my daughter to put her dog's crate in when it's hot. Your vid shows that there's definitely enough room for his large crate! I love how quick the set up is of this fort, but I’d need two smaller ones, because they would each want their own space. Unfortunately, my house ain’t that big.
When I was a kid, we lived in a trailer with floor vents and I pretty much made these all the time with a sheet and some toys to hold the corners down, brrrr it was cold but so much fun.
I could see around $30 maybe. Add cost of a box fan, average price $25 so about $75+. Does it still work on lower speeds? I wonder if okay outside with outdoor extension.
This reminds me of when we were kids in gym class and we'd all get in a circle and have this thin sheet stretched out, everyone go up and down a few times with it then run into the middle and make a giant dome. I could see them expanding on this to add some extra rooms or tunnels or the like.
As a kid my friend and I would take his parents' king size sheet and put it over a register. When the air conditioning turned on, we literally had the coolest fort. I wonder how this fort would do on med and low settings, for those concerned with using a bunch of electricity for a fort.
To all the people complaining about lack of creativity…. #1 this makes it easy to clean up so parents are more likely to let them use it. #2 I’m pretty sure that any enclose space, tent, cardboard box, closet or fan inflated igloo is gonna spark imaginative play. Is there any chance you'd be able to test to see if balloons float around in there if you blow them up? My son is disabled and I think he'd love this but I was looking at renting a bubble dome, I'm wondering if this would work as a small scale alternative
I have a cheaper solution. Now this will only work if you have floor a/c vents. Take a flat sheet but it over the ac vent and go in it. It will keep you cool and be fun
has a lot going for it in terms of ease of set up and take down. Probably best to fold it from igloo shape into a perfect circle and from there fold it into a pizza style triangle which can then be rolled up like a croissant.
