I was absolutely shocked at how he got the first stick. The way he uses his feet to hold the slack in the string as he reaches down with his beak to pull more up is so insanely human. He looks like someone wrapping up their garden hose.
He actually outthought me with how he did that, as I was expecting him to jump from the ledge and try to grab at it. His way was a LOT better than mine. I just hope there aren't any more species of animal that can best me at problem solving, lol.
If they interviewed the crow, He'll say, "Yeah I heard him say it to you earlier. So I already knew what I had to do. But it didn't look like he pushed it back that far. So I thought I'd try to skip a step. He got me there. But once I realized I was wrong, I knew the clock was ticking, and I wanted to look good on camera. So I hurried up and got the bigger stick. It's all in a day's work. Nothing special really. You wouldn't happen to have anymore of those treats would you?"
I think you underestimate how smart these birds really are, I mean they identify shapes, sizes and even color and there has been reports of crows using sticks and twigs as tools.
Hey, Scientists! How about a less slippery surface for the nice crow? I have a pair of European magpies building a nest in a sequoia in my yard right now. I have supplied a bird bath and a buffet of nuts and seeds (mostly so they don't go predatory on the other little birds living on the property), and am hoping we will become great friends.
It would not be necessary for a bird to evolve the ability to make calculations in math and physics, as that doesn't help them so much in terms of fitness. Any creature can discern between a longer and shorter object if it has senses, what is demonstrated here is the brain power to apply that knowledge to something that increases chances of survival.
Not really. While animals can be smart, birds of the corvid type (crows, ravens etc.) are among animals pretty much an exception when it comes to problem solving. They are able to understand a cause-result connection and put it to use in a problem solving process. Most animals can't do that even if able to use tools. They might however observe humans and see that one action may lead to desired results, but unlike those birds, they won't understand the process behind it.
A question. From this video and others like it the Crow seems to already be trained in each individual step of the puzzle. What they said rhey are twsting and what was actually tested doesnt seem to be the same thing. Was this an edited together video. I say this because there seem to be no fumbles or incorrect attempts other than the initial short stick to food. Which would be an expected thing for any animal in this test. ---- What was tested is wether or not they could apply previous knowledge to the situation. ie short stick is used to get long stick. As they described it they were testing if a Crow is placed in an unfamiliar environment could they solve the problem. ---- Either way that entire family of birds is incredibly intelligent.
Absolutely fascinating even tho this is not the first time I've seen a bird completing experiments smoothly. They are indeed very smart creatures given from Universe 💕
Impressive. But it would be nice to know what previous experiments were. It loses something if previous steps acted as training. Experiment 1. Use long stick on ground to get food. Experiment 2. Use short stick on ground to get long stick in cage. Use long stick to get food. Experiment 3. As seen Use short stick on string to get long stick in cage. Use long stick to get food.
Makes me think that we are just normal animal but with better brain and that's basically it Nothing special bout us Wonder what would they say if they could talk *fluently*
Al Quran Al Maidah (5:31)"Then Allah sent a raven, scratching in the earth, so that he might show him, how he should hide the corpse ofhis brother. He said, 'Oh woe is me! I could not be able even like this raven so that I may hide the corpse ofmy brother, then he remained repenting.
Two ravens sit on his (Odin’s) shoulders and whisper all the news which they see and hear into his ear; they are called Huginn and Muninn. He sends them out in the morning to fly around the whole world, and by breakfast they are back again. Thus, he finds out many new things and this is why he is called ‘raven-god’ Odin, the god of wisdom, of course would choose the Raven to be his eyes and ears in the mortal world, for they understand the world better than most creatures.

Now I want to see a crow do an escape room
Same
Not gonna lie, they’d probably solve those faster than I would
How about you being put in an escape room filled with Ravens? That would be interesting huh?
This crow is smarter than most people in my life
Hahaha 😆
They’re lots of dumb people in your life then
I dont think the Egyptians or Aliens built the Pyramids, it was definetly crows
Mans out here solving Zelda shrines
I honestly think you could train these to make small repairs or other things at this level of intelligence.

The crow obviously listened to the guy talking before he began🤣
The crow is so happy to do these puzzles, makes me want a crow.
I feel the puzzle was too easy for the crow honestly
The puzzle was disrespectful to the crows intelligence
Are these random crows or cherry picked ivy league ones?
That's a good question, actually.
@@trappedinapieshop New Caledonian crows caught in the wild, then released back to their home
these are the dumbest actually, the smartest ones are the one that are not actually caught xD :p

@@matrixofdeathlol bro that's actually a very good point you made
If you haven't seen the documentary on crows learning faces and the experiments done with masks, you have to see it. Scary how long their memory is.
I wonder if a crow could figure out a complex treat based escape room sort of thing where the objectives each involve some sort of snack for the crow
This crow would make a comparatively brilliant president.
Crows can solve 5 levels of problem solving.
No high school graduate in Baltimore or Philadelphia can do this
I AM NOT KIDDING
that crow be like: "HAHA! Victory!!"

How about a slip and slide for the magppies? Maybe a swing?
it's believed meritocracy is at the center of the crow's hierarchical paradigm
Give it a calculus problem on a paper and remember to leave a pen as well.
This is too easy for them. 😂😂
I think crows are getting into the liquor cabinet when we're not home. But wife's not buying it.
I was at school with kids who couldn't have done that.
Wow, they're smarter than I thought.
It's not simple tool usage: it's math and physics, the understanding of different lengths and the basics of friction.

I officially want to give any crow I see some food.
Even if you wanted to sell it to them, I'm sure crows would be capable of signing IOU. After some haggling, of course 🙂
This crow is the Einstein of the bird world!!
Not only this crow! Most of the corvids!
This crow is more evolved than yuval harrari.
Seeing this, youve gotta ask.For how long are humans gonna be the only rulers of earth?
Did Google hire this guy already ?

If a monkey did this it would be called proof of evolution.
Can they drive cars?
Make the controls beak-friendly, and they could prolly learn.
they'd probably be better than humans, since we get so easily distracted from driving. look at this crow, so committed to their goal.
