This is a classic song by Sílvia Pérez Cruz, the famous Catalan singer (and songwriter). It's based on a poem by a well-known Catalan author Ana Maria Moix. (who actually based that on an older English poem, but that's enough history) While I love pretty much everything that Alba does, I think this version is just OK-ish. The lyrics are very sentimental and dramatic, and I don't think that comes across in this performance. If you want to see the original, here is a link to Silvia's version: ruclips.net/video/_EXUe6Vchr4/видео.html Check out the comments section there if you want to go further down this rabbit hole...
Sílvia is fabulous, and the way she turned her engagement at The Greek into a showcase for other musicians was the height of generosity. Her version of "Mañana" is striking, but the elegiac tone of the words seem better suited to this more subdued version. She is defiant at the prospect of death; these two are contemplative. Your link takes us to an excerpt from a film about Ana Maria Moix; the roundness of the sound makes me think they are miming what they have already recorded. (Still wonderful.) Sílvia sang "Mañana" live recently at an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. I don't think it has hit RUclips yet, but you can reach it through the NPR home page. Christina Rossetti was the original poet -- for anyone else who cares. AND, playing impeccable rhythm guitar with a little finger-picking thrown in is not that easy. Good listening!
My favourite version of Silvia's wonderful song is her impromptu version after a Rita/Lucia concert, with those two, Ana Rossi and Lucas Delgado in attendance. Its more like Ramon's nostalgic version here. (Good support from Alba but it is truly Ramon's show.) His piano, a slightly out of tune upright, seems perfect in seeming from some age gone by.

@@fliprim The one thing I've never "gotten" about Silvia's performances of this song (which I love dearly), is why she always has a smile on her face when she sings it. I mean, this is about the saddest, most tragic set of lyrics you could have - so why the smile? And she does that in both the film version and the campfire version. Bit of a mystery to me...
@@chanelops As the original Christina Rossetti poem opened,
"When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me"
I think this attitude towards death is something that resonates quite strongly with Silvia. I think Silvia is true to both poets' wishes (Christina and Ana). This embracing of death as harmless for the dead but necessary for the delights and beauties of life for the living, is something that pervades not only Silvia's work but also, now, Rita's work on Camino.
In our centuries long farewell to religion, starting from the Enlightenment and stretching a few more centuries ahead, increasing numbers of us, religious and not, are seeing that only transience can gift us a sense of the preciousness of life and love, the preciousness of a day, of a moment. Silvia and Rita are our new poets of these new understandings. Both face life square on. That's not to say they can't go to the darkest places, those moments of utter loss, even horror. Juro que vi flores. Strange Fruit. It comes as no surprise that Rita has on a wall, a picture of family, a picture of Pol and her, and a self-portrait of Frida Kahlo. I expect one such on Silvia's wall also.
@@fliprim fliprim, your replies are always a notch (or two!) above the norm on RUclips. And I appreciate that. Even if I don't agree, they make me think, and that's good. Thanks, and keep them coming!

Cheer up. Good music. You need to be more diligent to make more videos.
Prefiero a Alba, algo no me cuadra, también creo que la trayectoria de Alba tiene muchos méritos, y el chico ocupa poco espacio al lado de Alba.
