  • Fun lap down the Skagit with some friends in my Kokopelli Recon. Running the Skagit at this level is not as rare as catching a low-tide event but it isn't typical. The waves get bigger and there is a fun sneaky channel through the woods you can take too. The S Bends have changed a bit since the November 2021 floods and the first rapid no longer packs the same waves as it used to and the big hole just below the second S Bend rapid has changed significantly and is now deeper below the surface than before. We used the put in in Newhalem below the rapid that drains from the powerhouse and added on a few great rapids before passing the standard put-in. We cruised down to the Copper Creek takeout and passed numerous other groups enjoying the river as well. Video was taken on 7/31/2022 and there were no significant wood hazards, a few pieces here and there on the sidelines but all easily avoidable.
