One of my very first quality ukuleles had bridge pins, and I was deathly afraid of changing stings at first. With trial and error, I soon became accustomed to them, but wished I would have had this video back then. Bridge Pins on ukes shouldn’t be a scary experience if one knows what they’re doing. Great tutorial, Aaron!

Fascinating, don’t have a uke with bridge pins, having expert guidance am sure is invaluable to many. Thanks and have a good week.

Please, ukulele builders/luthiers, do not apply superglue to the bridge pins prior to shipping out the instrument to the buyer. It is silly to do that, even if you might be concerned that the pins may dislodge during shipping. Buyers, if you are looking into an ukulele with a pin bridge, it is a good idea to ask the luthier not to do this. I doubt that a high quality builder like Aaron at Beansprout engages in this. Still, I never thought to ask something like that before I purchased an ukulele with bridge pins, and it resulted in some major problems for me thereafter, as you might imagine. Thanks for the tip regarding the pin's slot as well. Makes sense!

Nice looking uke. Thanks for the vid. Why do you face the slot away from the string? Should I do this with all pins? Cheers.

Slotting the pin, instead of the bridge, is a rather recent development in order to make the work easier in factories at high volume. Over time on guitars, it causes the ball of the string to
Wear out the bridge faster. Among modern handmade builders, the current trend is to go back to the old ways of slotting the bridge, not the pin. On a uke, it probably isn’t as much of a factor, but I’m going with it. Depending on how your instrument is made, you may not want to switch it. Can’t tell without looking at it.

@@beansproutmusicalinstruments thanks for responding so soon. My Flight Fireball seems to suffer from that and I tied a bead on in the end so that the string wouldn't make the slot any worse.

Do those end pins make it sound better than a traditional setup in your opinion?
