Great video. Our 9-month-old male is not particularly excited about hand striping but can hold it everywhere but his belly. Can I use scissors to cut his belly hair?

I have a male standard wire haired. His parents were both show dogs but his coat was deemed not show worthy so he was sold as a pet. I adopted him on his first birthday. It is very hard to find a groomer that hand strips wire hair dogs. My groomer, who it took me 6 months to find, retired so I am going to be giving it a shot. He usually gets groomed every 3-4 months. Should I be doing it more often? Maybe it’s me, but when he has his outer coat pretty full after 2-3 months it looks uncomfortable. Plus the summers in Texas are HOT. He is a brindle like your little girl.

What age do you normally start stipping their coat? What length blade do you usually use fine, medium, or coarse?

May I ask, were one not to ever strip one's dog's coat, but rather only brush it regularly, would it have a permanently detrimental affect on the coat and would it be harmful to the dog in any way?

Not harmful to the dog, but as the coat continues to grow eventually it will "blow" and become unmanageable, quite stinky and long.

What tools are best for handstripping? I bought a set of knives off amazon but they dont seem that effective. Ive never handstripped before but now have a wirehair minature dachshund so trying to teach myself how to do this

What if your wirehair is the bushier/long hair type. I hear that it should come out naturally. I've been slowly getting my guy used to it since he was a puppy but he's never this short.

The more often you pull the shorter the hair will be. This guy, if left for months, will grow into quite the hairy beast. Best to keep pulling!
