Years ago I went on a round the world ticket sold by Trail Finders.
RTW is the best. Also - price depends on which country you start in. Switzerland is one of the highest. Business is a very good price with the most you can pay being around $10k for 39,000 miles leaving from a cheaper country. I would not do this in economy (I wouldn't fly economy anyway) because you can always construct something really cheap. I am about to start a 34,000 mile journey - all in . $8,700 in business - this is the CRWSTAR2 fare ex Germany . . and - - the 16 flight maximum is not because of any rules - it is because the maximum number of flights possible on an e-ticket (4 conjunction tickets) is 16. This is a design limitation of the e-ticket database (when designed they felt 16 flights would be really the most people may need - nor considering RTW tickets - when paper tickets were possible - the RTW was 26 flights . 25 stops max . . . )

I’d start off by buying a separate ticket from sfo or oak to hnl on southwest.

Can’t you just redeem the round the world tickets with your star alliance miles? I think that might be the better and cheaper option! 😅

The alliance rtw tickets are NOT good value. Much buyer to buy separately and use lccs for short segments
