Adam, you are correct. It was movie critic Rex Reed who walked in while Chris and Margot walked out. The crew member whose reflection we saw in the revolving door was that of director Dick Donner. He and writer Tom Mankiewicz laughed about that during the commentary of Superman: The Movie. The alley way where Clark and Lois are held up was at the Pinewood Studios in London. While they are walking down the streets of New York, you only see the robber's hand since it wasn't that of the actor who we see in the next angle in London. On a side note, Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen) is one of the nicest celebrities I've ever met.
I was born in 76 so im 47 now i was real little in 1978 2 years old then could not see this in the theaters. It is one of the best Christopher Reeves movie out there, his others are Somewhere in time was in 1980. Thanks for sharing the location spots on video, it really shows where it was for real. You take care and stay safe 🙏😎🎥
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 My husband and I just watched the original Superman after watching this vlog. We are almost 60 and have never seen this movie. Thanks buddy.
The farm scene was filmed in Canada - Blackie, Calgary, Alberta. Football & young Clark racing the train - Barons, Alberta. Cemetery scene - Beynon, Alberta. Fortress of Solitude - British Columbian ice fields. Check it out!
I was just in NYC couple days ago to visit this beautiful city. I guess I missed these missing gems of the famous filming areas of the movie of Superman. Thank you Adam the Woo for sharing these spots that few visitors don’t know about or forgot. Definitely I will come back to visit NYC and remember these location where Superman (Christopher Reeves) was once in NYC. Awesome video. 🦸♂️👍
Makes me want to watch Superman again. I was lucky when I was a kid, my Mom loved going to the movies, and my Dad would get us free passes all the time, since he fixed the A/C for all the majors theatres back then. Super cool filming locations! Man, NY city looks like, quite the place.
I was 7 (2nd grade) when my parents took me to this movie in Jan of 79. I remember I couldn't wait to get inside the theater because it was so cold outside. This movie had a bigger impact on me than Star Wars, which my parents took me to at a drive-in theater in the summer of 78. I was exhilierated when I left the theater. I was so verwhelmed and had a frog in my throat. Incredible experience and had zero clue as to the fun I would have moving forward as we transitioned into the 80's.
Dude, I work in the Daily News building. I wish I knew you were coming I would’ve got you a guess pass. I’m surprised they let you film in the lobby, they’re kind of touchy about that. Thanks for all your videos. Enjoy your time in nyc 😊
Oh boy, I love how flirty Margot Kidder is allowed to be here (with women's lib as the 70's backdrop) and how unintentionally campy the film is. Now THAT is a superhero film I'd actually watch in theatres -- Marvel, take note. She openly lusts for Clark while also being suspicious of him. She's a great character. I really wish her story in life had been different and that she had been treated much better. I knew folks who lived in Montana where she lived out her final years, and she gave out a ton of kids' books at Standing Rock. She was a kind and generous woman who I wish had gotten the trauma treatment that we have today, and she could have led a very different life. RIP Margot and Christopher Reeve.
How many are jumping to the scene in Superman RIGHT NOW to see the globe?? Pretty, darn...COOL Mr Woo! Hello from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Park 🌄🏞️🐻
Two weeks from today, I’ll be in NYC for a ten day vacation. Coincidentally, I booked a hotel less than two blocks from that particular China Town alleyway. I would have never known that nugget of Superman history existed there if it wasn’t for you. Thanks for sharing, Adam! Great video, as always
@@TheDailyWoo yeah. I agree. I know a lot of people prefer the second one but that first movie is just wonderful. I love the pacing of it. Love the acting. Really enjoyed this video. I think the daily planet section of the video was long enough. Glad you caught all that good footage before they sent you packing. 😁
Superman 78 is my favorite movie of all time! First time I saw it was the ABC Sunday Night movie , a two part movie, Sunday and Monday. I fell in love and have been ever since! A tip, go to the Daily Planet at night , they don’t bother you , I was in the for a long time just taking it all in thinking how I can’t believe I’m actually here! It was amazing!❤
Great video Adam! I had the privilege of working on Christopher Reeve's last project, The Brooke Ellison Story. I was the stand-in for John Slattery. Christopher Reeve was the director. He spent most of the time directing by using a loudspeaker from the production truck. I was a huge fan of his work as Superman when I was younger. He would call me by name when directing me for lighting and sound. I couldn't believe that Superman knew my name. He was awesome! Sadly, he passed away before the movie aired on television.
Nothing better than the original Superman Movie, and the late great Christopher Reeves, there is no substitute!! One of the best super hero movies!!! I was 11 yrs old, and saw it in the movie theater when movies were cheap to go see!!
Another fantastic movie location vlog! I was 7 when I saw this in the theater. They definitely don’t make superhero movies like they used to. An absolute classic!
My friend worked at Toyota way back in 2004. They had corporate offices at 9 W 57th Street and I was able to go in the building. I don't remember what floor they were on. Saw incredible views of the city. Absolutely breathtaking. Love NYC Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your time there.

Superman The Movie 1978 is to this day still my favorite movie of all time. I finally got the opportunity to see it over the summer on the big screen in a movie theater. Thank you so much for this video, it was right up my alley (sans mugger)
I totally agree, Superman the Movie is the best superhero movie of all time, because it was so well done and the fact that there was no CGI back then and it truly makes you believe a man could fly!!
Adam, I loved Superman and really enjoyed your awesome filming locations video! Thank you for taking me to NYC along with you! Looking forward to your next vlog. NYC is sooo beautiful!
While walking around, if you go to Central Park (west side) near the Dakota where Lennon was shot, grab a few hotdogs from Grays Papaya at 72nd and Broadway and then try a chocolate chip/walnut cookie from Levain Bakery at 74th and Broadway. All of the leafblowers have been replaced by car horns and sirens lol. Superman 1978 was my favorite as well as far as the Superman franchise goes. I was 12 yrs old when that came out, so long ago. Excellent job Adam. My mother lived at the corner of E42nd St and 2nd Ave. 2009 was last time I was there. They had just started on the Freedom Tower, actually about 4 or 5 stories tall when I saw it.
Love it when you do these type of videos. Lost count of how many times i watched Superman as a kid - it was a lot! So cool to see what some of the filming locations look like today. Amazing that the Daily Planet globe and that number 9 are still there. Thanks so much Adam. Must have taken a ton of research. Brilliant.
That was very cool. Seeing the real life movie locations, was very cool! I remember seeing that movie in the theaters when i was the kid. Mr Reeves was great as Superman. He is greatly missed. Thanks Adam.
Another Iconic movie scene filmed in Grand Central station was the end fight of Carlito's way with Al Pacino. Everytime I go to Grand Central station and see those escalators that is all I think about! Also a lot of great history in that train station. They do tours I think.
Saw this when it came out in 78' And it was instantly one of my favorite movies of all time, They did such a great job with everything, They didn't give in to parodying Superman and took it seriously and that's reflected in the film. One point: You said when the crowd was gathering watching the helicopter on the roof that the cops didn't push them back, believe me they did, saying " Alright everybody get back" several times. Watch it again.😂 Biggest laugh: When he 1st changes into his costume and the pimp says "say Jim that's a bad outfit" and he takes off flying up,got a huge laugh from everyone! Lots of good memories from seeing this movie in the theater. Nice job with the video too.
I’m sure someone has mentioned this, but the giant 9 is an address marker, installed in 1974, for 9 W 57th street. Loooved Superman as a kid. Haven’t watched it in a couple decades but this definitely makes me want to watch it again!
Buildings in NYC are not very friendly to people filming in them. I was asked to leave the Chrysler building lobby a couple of weeks ago even though I just stood at the entrance and tried to take a photo with my phone. Great video though. Superman (1978) is a classic.
As a comic book nerd it was so neat to see the filming location to Superman the movie. growing up Spider-man has always been my favorite character but i do enjoy the Christopher Reeves Superman films. thanks for documenting it
You were right in my work neighborhood!! I wished I couldn’t bumped into you. I hope you have fun in nyc. I loved this movie. Gives me goosebumps when I hear the opening theme! The “9” is pretty iconic. It would cause an uproar if it were removed.
so I had to watch Superman the movie again after watching your vlog 🙂 I don't think I've watched since I was a kid. My favorite was Superman II -- favorite line "kneel before Zod". I just remember my family and I thought that was so funny how arrogant the character was...loved Terrence Stamp ever since
This was excellent, thanks! I think that the scene where the crook tries to take Louis Lane's purse was filmed there in that small alley and not on a sound stage. It looked close enough to me. The crook took them around the corner. Then when Louis Lane is confused how Clark knows the contents of her purse was filmed in the section that you filmed from behind the gate.
This is a terrific vlog, Adam. I visited NYC in 2011, but I didn’t think to visit these locations. I caught some of the more popular tourist spots, which did include Grand Central but none of these others. Maybe someday I can visit again. This movie holds a special place in my mind as a great film.
I love to see your perspective of Manhattan. Again. You spend the entire day all over the city and come back and edit. Adam the Woo is vlogging Superman
Great video, I loved that Superman movie when I was a kid. To me it was the best movie since Star Wars which came out a year before. I became a Superman fan because of it. I've been to NYC 3 times and some of the same places you visited but it never occurred to me to do all the Superman locations. Thanks, Woo-man!
Adam the Woo in NYC! It’s been awhile since you’ve been here. I honestly didn’t know Superman was shot there (other than Lois’ apartment). So much looked like a soundstage
My favorite version of this movie is the complete 3 hour tv cut. Absolute masterpiece! Fun fact about that version: At exactly 1 hour and 0 seconds, it’s the final frame of Superman flying towards the screen out of the fortress of solitude (first appearance of Christopher Reeve). At the very next frame (exactly 1 hour and 1 second) it cuts to a shot of metropolis. So act 1 (the origin) ends at exactly 1 hour, and act 2 begins 1 second later. Coincidence or intentional?
Great video. I lived at 240 Central Park south in 2006/2007 11th Floor overlooking the park...huge Superman fan and never knew it while I lived there. I watched Herve Attia's video years back and he mentioned that.. little did I know.. while I lived there I walked around to all the Superman locations and little did I know I was living in one
The scene with the cops and the boat, that slanted building isnt a hotel, its an office building. And above the parking garage is a park! Its a fun little spot with nice views of the river and Brooklyn
@Jill M They were rude to him and told him he had to leave after telling him he could stay for 5 minutes and take pics because of 9/11? Not sure about that one. You have a good day though.
Long ago I had seen in illinois a place (can't remember what area) and it said the Home of Superman(had a big billboard) and they had the real Daily Planet It was very small. Not see what the history was about this. Thank U for the video. This is some nice work.
Awesome!! I love Superman. My exwife and I went to the News Building once and got pictures in the lobby with the globe but the security guard wouldn’t let us go past the lobby. I wanted to get pictures outside the elevators, where Clark told Lois that his first day was swell. (Although, technically that conversation began at the elevators and ended at the revolving door.)
My father knew Chris Reeve, was an aide and helped him after his paralysis. Chris and his wife were nice people. Great actor and the best Superman!
An icon for sure
I agree! He was the best Superman.
That’s really neat! He was one of a kind.
He’s not the best superman, he IS superman 😉.. best by miles
Did u live in edison he went to the rehab center at kessler. also ive been to robert wood johnson where he was.

I've been to NYC 3 times and some of the same places you visited but it never occurred to me to do all the Superman locations. Thanks, Woo-man!
My wife and I have been enjoying the vlogs from the NYC
A great tour of some of the Superman locations. I will have to watch the movie again. Thank you Adam.
As a resident of NYC the commercial buildings are still very strict since 911 for security reasons. It has nothing to do with being not friendly
Great Vlog A.T.W. one of my favorite movies too. A beautiful view from your room.. I am looking forward to see what is next....
My absolute favourite Superman movie of all time I was fifteen when I went to see it and fell in love with Christopher Reeves lol 😊
It’s the best . Grew up on it
@@TheDailyWoo
It really was Adam 😊
@@TheDailyWoo Adam - You were 3 years old or 4 years old when this came out in 78,' right?
Great video. I lived at 240 Central Park south in 2006/2007 11th Floor overlooking the park...huge Superman fan and never knew it while I lived there. I watched Herve Attia's video years back and he mentioned that.. little did I know.. while I lived there I walked around to all the Superman locations and little did I know I was living in one
the police station was right in front of the service entrance of 55 water street. I'm a New Yorker, great job on the Vlog
I loved Superman and also Superman 2. Great video. I was thinking the Rays were playing in New York which is why you went to NYC.😂
The scene with the cops and the boat, that slanted building isnt a hotel, its an office building. And above the parking garage is a park! Its a fun little spot with nice views of the river and Brooklyn
Oh nice ! Thanks for the info
Yep it’s called the Elevated Acre and is accessible to the public via stairs at 55 Water Street
Superman the Movie is also my favorite. Because I grew up with it Superman is my favorite Superhero.
Sorry that place was unnecessarily rude to you; there was basically nobody in there. I'm glad you got to see the globe though!
It's for safety reasons. Maybe you forgot but NYC had a big attack 20+ years ago?
@Jill M They were rude to him and told him he had to leave after telling him he could stay for 5 minutes and take pics because of 9/11? Not sure about that one. You have a good day though.
I’m amazed how much still looks the same over 45 years later.
Long ago I had seen in illinois a place (can't remember what area) and it said the Home of Superman(had a big billboard) and they had the real Daily Planet It was very small. Not see what the history was about this. Thank U for the video. This is some nice work.
Awesome video! My favorite Superman ever!
Its so cool to see that it said Police Station about the doors of the last building for the boat scene
Btw, if you like Ghostbusters, you could easily cover those locations for that as well.
Thank you Mr Woo and for all that you do
I’m So glad I got I’m the lobby . So dang cool
8:58 that escalator is used in Carlitos Way (1993)
