Thorfinn asking that question makes perfect sense to me. He really doesn't have a broader awareness of the world, but he does have his own life experience to draw from. In that situation after a big life change most people start with a big bold idea and eventually work it into something more manageable. Canute actually has the authority to make things happen but has to deal with the consequences. I think that was what he was talking about when he said, "this is nothing." He feels like he can handle those consequences but that doesn't do anything for those he affects. There are strong parallels but also key differences too.
I remember when Canute mocked his father for being a slave of the crown, I questioned how he would stop from having the same problem and this episode shows me he doesn't have a plan for that. In his efforts to make the perfect utopia he has become just as bad as his father, potentially worse.
I wasn't sure what kind of person Harald would be. Season 1 made me believe he was on his father's conspiracy to have Canute killed but he was such a cool big brother.
I think that the "this is nothing" is more like he being nostalgic. Canute says exactly the same thing in episode 5 when he tries to convince the other guy to poison King Ethelred once he offers 4,000 silver pounds. That was the moment he started to be seen as the ruler of England, now he has Denmark at his feet. To me it was like remembering simpler times.

The truth about him hurts more, now that we've seen how canute dealt with him D:

Canute's sister looked just like him when he was a princess.
