    It would have been his birthday today! I'll raise a glass to the memory of my favourite sax player ever..he was and still IS saxophone!

    Heard Michael in person twice. First time was in the old Osaka " Blue Note " while on tour with the Minnesota Orchestra in 1998 and the other time was at the Dakota jazz club in the Twin- Cities. Also heard Coltrane and his quartet in the original Birdland in New York when I was kid. Both men were great talents and died way too young. The intensity of the playing of Brecker is as good as is gets. We are fortunate to have video and recordings of this greatness.

    If you play the saxophone, you know that the technical mastery of Michael Brecker is literally other-worldly. And that's just one of the many aspects of his musical brilliance. RIP Mike....

    What a shame! I live in Basel where this concert took place, but back then I wasn't even into Jazz. If I was older by that time, maybe there would have been a chance to see Michael live, but now...
    "If", "maybe"... shit, I sure love the way he played.

    thanks for posting this great video. A music lesson on how to play for 45 min without any backing chords or playing even 2 notes together. The Master of the Saxophone!
    If anyone has this in a higher quality please post.

    Delta City Blues is one of my personal favourites, and a b*tch to play. There's a lick at about 2:50 in this version that just gets me every time. Love this vid. I have a solo a capella sax improv/busking style thing coming up, using this for some inspiration.

    I am always very cautious with superlatives- but maybe he really was the best saxophone player in the field of jazz.
    RIP MB

    • @Cantbuyathrill
      @Cantbuyathrill 10 лет назад

      You are definitely not cautious enough with superlatives. Stop viewing Mr. Brecker in a vacuum, throwing out all those who came before him, with him, and after him. A great clinician? yes. Good technic? yes. But no soul nor lyricism. There is more to good music than speed, razzle-dazzle, or olympically showing off. This aint music, it is woodshedding.

  • @dieterammann4
    @dieterammann4 10 лет назад

    You obviously have no idea about the musical thinking of people like Mr. Brecker and there way of working to get their artistic aims.
    Similar senseless accusations like you do has also been made against Pierre Boulez (in order to name a "non -jazz- example").
    This debate is often focussed on jealousy - maybe you are a musician too?....
