  • With just one night in our rental RV near Fairbanks, Alaska, we decide to camp at Chena Lakes Recreation Site. Here we find wide open skies and have a chance to see the Northern Lights! Josiah and Eleanor share about the aurora borealis and we venture outside in the middle of the night to see if we can spot the lights.

Hi, we are the Stranathan Family! In 2018 we hit the road full-time to travel in our RV across the US. Our mission was to visit all 50 states and as many National Parks as possible! Along the way we’ve homeschooled our two kids. Traveling the country has been such a gift to us and we want to share the journey with you! Follow along for family friendly adventures, with a little learning and some laughs mixed in. #northernlights #alaska #elementaryexplorers

Thank you for sharing that awesome video! Seeing the Northern Lights is very high on our bucket list. We were thinking about renting an RV in the lower 48 and traveling to Alaska. Or renting in Alaska. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations on RV rentals?

I’d recommend flying or cruising to Alaska and renting an RV once you are there. Alaska is a wonderful place to RV! Cruise America and many other name brands rent RVs - mostly small Class C sizes. We rented through Alaska Family Motorhomes. The book The Milepost is a wonderful resource. If you want more information on RV camping in Alaska please email me and I’d be happy to share our itinerary, favorite stops, etc. leslie6479@hotmail.com
