The Italian league was like our league now lots of foreign players if this game was to be played now I think it would be in reverse lots of Italians in their team lots of foreign players in ours.
Although there was still a clear majority of Italians in the club sides, despite just about every team having a few star foreigners, typically South Americans. In fact at this time Italian clubs still had a rule which meant the starting 11 could contain no more than 3 foreigners, a rule which I think lasted until 94 or 95. It was the Bosman ruling that stopped it, I think. Nowadays I expect English players are a minority in most 'English' Premiership sides.
Shows you the difference in leagues back then English defenders were not used to foreign players as english sides were just coming back from suspension back then Careca was a decent player, and had a great partnership with maradona
Just a sick joke to compare the old, low budget, shambolic 1st Division to the Serie A in its golden years! That could just as well have been the World 11 lining up for the Serie A outfit - perhaps minus Robert Prosinecki of Red Star Belgrade and Jean-Pierre Papin of Olympique Marseille. Klinsmann could have played, Gullit could have been there, Andy Brehme wouldn't have been out of place... it's not EVEN the strongest Serie A 11 you could assemble. Light years apart back in 1991 - but how things have changed since!
Ross,
Thanks very much for giving us this inter-league fixture from Naples. Interesting to compare the contrast in styles between the two leagues!
Careca and Van Basten up front, that's a dream pairing :)
Limpar, Barnes & Rush too!
Brilliant, many thanks for uploading this...and the sportsnight opening 👌
Certainly no comparison between the leagues back then. Serie A was a different class.
Seria A was a superliga in 80-90-s.

@@danyoutube7491 Yes, I completely forgot about the three foreigners rule. I think teams could only play 3 at any one time.
It would be 5-1 to premier league
@@natureclips5849 Just like how all European competitions are dominated by premier league teams. Right?
@@ventorro8055 not anymore serie A 📈it would be much closer
Where are you finding this gold from 👍🏾
Parma's Gabriele Pin involved.

Careca decent player? Top 15 central forward ever.. Only behind Vanbasten in mid 80s - early 90s Serie A
Where was Gazza
Awesome . Love this match. Van Basten, Matthaus, Careca, John Barnes are the only notable ones though.
Rush, Aldair and Nicol are pretty notable mate
