Seriously, I have had 2 Stratocasters and currently own 2 “knockoffs” based on them, plus one bonafide Les Paul (in addition to other guitars). I would not want to choose one over the other.

Thankfully there are enough great and affordable options for most people too own both!
I play lots of different guitars but if I could have only 1. It would be a Gibson Les Paul custom
Both are great in their own right. Have as many of each as you can.
My shoulder and neck have voted for the SG.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that in my teens I had an Epi Les Paul, and 20 years later I’m still suffering from shoulder and neck issues.

Strarocaster . More versatile, more comfortable either seated or standing and stays in tune when properly set up .

Love the tone of fender, love the neck of the Gibson. Hard to choose. I guess the teleecaster.

I need both. I look for the Strat more, but sometimes I need volume and the Les Paul really gives me volume.
If you wanted to, you could make a Stratocaster sound like a Les Paul, but not the other way around. The Stratocaster is number one in terms of convenience, but the Les Paul has its own romance.
You can make a les paul sound plenty like a strat. David Gilmore used his goldtop les paul on dark side of the moon.

The Les Paul and the Strat are the extremes of guitar- Hot and Cold, Fat and Thin, Sweet and Sour. Everything else is a comprise between the two.

My first electric was a Telecaster.
I wasn't good enough yet.
With that clean tone there's no place to hide mistakes.
Sold it to a good player, got a Strat.
20 years later I'm sure all 3 of us are happier.

Ya, I love them both in different situations. That being said, i'm more of a Les Paul guy because that's just been what I've learned on and it fits better with the music I play.
I'm defo a Les Paul guy, but acquired a taste for the Strat 20 years later 😉

Agreed. The jr is the most underrated guitar. Much cheaper than my high end strats,teles and les Paul's.

Most rock legends played both...but for some reason opted for the Strat in their matured years (Clapton, Townshend, Gilmour etc).

Have Both , no one can actually fake those sounds, close , that’s it. Several other great sounding Guitars out there.

Strat guy here. Own a couple of LPs, almost never play them. One is my only P-90 guitar, so it stays in case I need that specific tone.
I love the way the telecaster sounds,I don't see very,Often the volume and tone nobs being utilized.

Strat. Best cleans with all those Knopfler type tones and overdrive from Rory Gallagher to Steve Hillage and the fuzz of Hendrix and Gilmour. I could go on ….

Have a MIM Strat and a Standard Les Paul. I have a preference for my Gibson, but it depends on what I want to play. Having the 2 and you have the best of both worlds 😁

My strat has humbucker in the bridge position and my two favorite guitar's are my les Paul and my strat with my Gibson SG modern real close

I enjoy listening to Strats but have never liked playing em. I love listening to and playing Les Pauls.
I personally prefer the sound of the single coils of a strat, although one gets the best of both worlds with an HSS. But it doesn’t matter which is better when Pete plays, it’s always buttery smooth and so so sweet! I can’t wait till I grow up and am as cool as Pete.😂

I prefer a strat with a humbucker in the bridge. I just have issues with the shorter scale of the lp. They are gorgeous though.
Like them both but they sound quite different. I guess it depends on the style music you are playing.
In your hands I prefer the Strat as you bring out the tones I love about a strat... For me I love humbuckers so I own Strats but am a Les Paul guy

I have both so my answer is les paul and a stratocaster and a telle for a side dish.
