- From a video game to an amazing, fun, action-packed movie - Sonic the Hedgehog has been leveling up! Creating these films brought on a ton of nostalgia and some pretty cool gear while the filming crew literally broke new ground. In the sequel, Jim Carrey spent his fair share of time rigged up and flying high while James Marsden got upgraded to maybe the most intense cruise control we’ve ever seen!
The Sonic crew expanded for the sequel bringing Knuckles and Tails to life, which meant we got even more, custom-made stand-in statues for filming - including the classic solo floating head for a few shots. Let’s just say you’ve never seen a hedgehog that looked like this before. While there were full models made - when it came to action sequences, a special and kind of abstract version of each of them came to set.
Need a spaceship? A pretty epic one was on the set to help create the perfect environment for this adventurous flick. Get Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz working on a movie - there is bound to be a whole load of improv and we can guarantee - there was. Thanks to these spontaneous moments, we wound up getting one very special, hip-gyration-filled dance sequence - intrigued yet? While Ben Schwartz played the leading role - the actor didn’t do a day on set! Schwartz was only needed for voice and motion capture so all his action happened solo - but not to worry - every performance is still epic.

Honestly, the fact they actually changed the design for fans actually shows how much they care about the sonic fans. This is how film adaptations should Be. Not something like that stupid halo show thats nothing but a slap in the face of halo fans, the sonic movie actually uses source materialto make a great movie. And also references older sonic shows and games.
I genuinely cant wait for the next movie and i hope it goes amazingly

If they cared to even create a Sonic movie in the first place, then $5 million wouldn’t have been lost lol how does a director come up and say the first design was even remotely good?! Glad they changed it, but let it a be a lesson to them that if they want to produce iconic or nostalgic movies of character franchises they should make it good from the get go or get someone that actually knows about it.

There are always fan made sonic games you can play
I absolutely LOVE that they're using props and going to real locations to film. So many films today abuse the CGI, some to a ridiculous degree. But that's like eating a bowl of spice. You need some meat and potatoes for the spice to compliment!!
Then again, the movies main characters is completely cgi, so making real locations makes it a lot easier

I must say, I heavily underestimated the work that went into the production of this film. Definitely gained a new respect
Honestly have to give James Marsden mad credit, his ability to act is very downplayed considering how well he interacts with something that is inanimate for the entirety of the movie. Their casting choice was spot on for this movie.

I was very lucky to see all of this unfold as I live in the small town where this was filmed! They film a lot of Netflix movies here but never something this big. It was crazy to see the whole town change, and of course the actors themselves just hanging around town.

For a series of movies about CGI characters, it is refreshing to see how many practical effects, stunts, real props, and real locations were used in the production.
