I started with the anime... And SO MANY references and jokes sailed over my head because theyre only properly explained in the book or once you complete the series. The sass is x100... Every action is so double meaning. I love it.
Same, I started with the donghua, though a lot more than just the jokes sailed over my head, such as most of the names. There was no eng dub when i first watched it and i usually watch anime in eng dub
I usually hate dub but this voice actor for Hua Cheng is PERFECT, I adore him already, and all the other dub VAs are actually so good, I'm pleasantly surprised that they did it nice for HOB

(For that reason, and also because Mu Qing abandoned Xie Lian in the past.)
