    Great vid. Beautiful plants. I just put my cuttings straight in damp soil. They all root so easily. Super simple plant to care for I just wish I could keep mine outside but unfortunately we have below freezing temps here.

    I've really never been a fan of Coleus, but here lately I'm warming up to those. I saved 2 at my seasonal garden center job from the dumpster and have really enjoyed seeing their bright faces in the shady part of the garden. I'll take some cuttings for next yr, I cut my Geraniums too for overwintering. Your tips will help save some $$.

    Love Coleus! I’m 63 and remember them from gardens when I was 4 years old. I consider them an old fashioned plant. Just got back from Disney World and they have so many big beds of different mixed coleus for fall coloring. So pretty! Thank you for the video and info.

    The Limelight Coleus is just beautiful! Reminds me of mop head hydrangea which I love the foliage of. I love how the variety of coleus play off one another. Beautiful! 🌸🌿🌻

    Very helpful and timely. Thanks. used coleus this year as the primary plant on a shady deck, in pots, along with hosta and it was quite a success. I also used it along a shady perimeter after some early blooming perennials had finished and it was a lovely addition. I was planning on bringing some inside and just simply need to make enough room in the house.

    Nice video. I agree, don't let the plants die ..ever! Dig them out in the fall, bring them in ensuring they get adequate light over the winter months. Then when it is warm enough to take them out, cut some clippings and plant them in the ground or in planters. Got it! I love coleus.😃

    I’ve been growing Coleus for several years and have some big beautiful ones I have saved from cuttings every year. I put my cuttings in little bottles that sit in my kitchen window. Something I see about yours is you are not cutting the flowers off. By doing so more energy stays in in the plant, because they are a foliage plant, not grown for flowers and letting them grow is like letting them go to seed. I check mine regularly and pinch off the flowers.

    I love them they are so colorful. My mother and I were just walking in a garden center this past weekend and the coleus also caught her attention she stopped there and looked and touched them for a good while. ☺️ I was telling her how they were all are related the many colors and some very thick almost like very thick velvet. Great video Yuliya, thank you.😊

    Thank you for doing this now! I had 2 huge gorgeous coleus in the spring but it rained so much I didn’t get them in the ground and left them in the pots in my front bed! Slugs ate them so bad by the time I could plant I had nothing to plant. I garden in zone 8a and we have almost the same conditions as you without the snow and it gets to 109 index in summer. Oh, I’m in Texas.

    I started growing coleus from seed last year. The leaves on some are so rich in color, texture and design they almost look like fabric. I’m not into houseplants and really don’t want the bug problem so I’m debating on what to do. I think I will take cuttings for rooting in water and wait as late as I can then pot them up. I hope they don’t get too large too quickly, but suppose I could just take more cuttings and replant again.

Sadly they only had the usual garden variety, no pun, heucheras, the dark green w red underside which I’ve never liked. Same at Lowes. Hi Yulia another very informative video. When you take the cutting should I put it on a windowsill in direct sunlight, or a windowsill with late sun or just on the coffee table in the middle of the room? Does your answer apply to both when it is in water and when I pot it up please? I love love your garden it's so beautiful I love all your big trees. It makes me feel peaceful just looking at it, no wonder you love it. Thanks Natalie 😀

    • @greatgardensforall
      @greatgardensforall  5 лет назад

      Thanks Natalie! When you are rooting any plants it is best to keep them out of sunlight or they will become dehydrated. Once they are rooted and potted up the brighter the better but introduce then gradually! Here is more info on how to deal with rootings: ruclips.net/video/7K-yB4Zmhjs/видео.html

    • @giardinodialberi8751
      @giardinodialberi8751 2 года назад +1

      Good questions. First, I would not leave the cuttings in water all winter; I would let the roots develop in water for 4 to 6 weeks, then pot them up; choose a pot just slightly larger than the mass of roots, so you don't suffocate the plant over the winter; transferred to the potting medium, they will establish more readily as complete plants when you set them outside in spring. Second, seeds won't come true if the plant has come from parents of two varieties; but if you follow Yulia's tips on making cuttings, they will be true to the original "stock" plant.

      They are really easy. If kept indoors keep in bright, warm and humid location. No drafts!

      Y Garden had mine to close to window... lots of cold draft... porch blocks natural sun light. Going to repot and put on my plant stand and get bigger light. Went from big pot tall and full to very skimpy. 😞

    The only thing that works for me to get rid of slugs are the Corry's slug killer pellets.

    I just noticed you have grass in all that shade! What kind of grass is it. My front is nearly all shade where I want grass. I would love to know so I could at least try it! I really have learned a lot watching you’re videos! Check out my previous replies! 😂🤣

    ?do you use root enhancers? After the cutting

      Many professional growers do not use rooting hormones for cuttings; since coleus root readily, I think you can safely forget it, but if you've already got some rooting hormone, why not use it? The formula usually includes an agent that prevents root rot.

    Suggestion. When you show a product bottle, don’t shake it around. Your viewers can’t see the label. Otherwise, I learned a lot. Thanks
