I always found it kind of amusing that they put so much effort into making the town reflect Germany, but the school feels so Japanese, down to ultra-strict dress codes that forbid even jewelry and makeup and the idea that backpacks are babyish and not what everyone wears at all ages.
Seeing fairies in anime is so underrated to me. Thank you for sharing this.

I remember that series! It stood out to me because each episode was so short and covered a different season. I have so many screenshots of it on my old computer!
Oh man the only reason I remember this anime is because I was obsessed with its art on a puzzle piece game when I was a wee kid. Never knew where it came from.

One year me and my friends all dressed up as characters from this show for Anime Expo Because Koge Donbo was visiting. I was dressed as Sugar, and my friends were the other fairies and Saga. We all made our costumes by hand. It was so much fun.

ahhh i had this on dvd!! my grandma bought it from a thrift store since i was so obsessed with anime when i was around 11!! the dvd only had a few episodes from what i remember. i cherished it dearly.
Great video!!! I found this show over 10 years ago due to the character design being done by Koge-Donbo*, one of my favorite artists. She's the creator of series like Di Gi Charat, Kamichama Karin, and Pita Ten. :) Di Gi Charat especially is a huge special interest of mine, and getting into that in jr. high school quickly led to me getting into many of her other works, this included (though her only contribution was designing the characters).
I am lucky enough to have managed to get my hands on Sugar's scale figure a few years back.
I GREW UP ON THIS ANIME!! I thought it was just me who watched this so many memories with this❤️✨
Speaking of anime fairies, have you ever heard of the Fairy Idol Kanon manga series? Sugar + Alto defined my childhood, fairy wise haha.
I actually used to watch this anime with my dad! I'm so glad he wasn't "above" watching these more girly childish anime with me. It made me really like waffles for a bit also, haha...
I KNOW I WASNT THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERS THIS! I remember watching this at my sister’s place ages ago (she lived somewhere else with other family) she had it on DVDs! It’s such a wholesome and emotional anime anyone can enjoy.
ADV dubbed the show from what I could find… So yeah, the same people who are behind the iconic Evangelion dub also did Snow Fairy Sugar’s dub.
This anime just hits hard, and it’s nostalgic too if you ever saw it when it had released on DVDs. It’s such a cute anime.
Oh my GOODNESS this takes me back. I had an anime rental store near my house (weird right??) and I picked this one up so fast after seeing it 50 times on other Geneon DVDs. One of the best decisions my young weeb self could make, I still adore this show so much and its lessons in heartbreak and growth and healing is just so... I just did some reaserch on Geneon, and then realized that both this and the Original Beyblade series were licensed in the US by the same company.
That alone makes this anime appeal so much more to me, maybe I should give it a watch.

i loved this anime back in middle school!!! Sugars my pfp on my anime list LOL there use to be a snow fair fan website that played the op/soundtrack and you were able to click through and play all the episodes and have chara wikis, i think it shut down tho. This anime isbnear and dear to me :3

So I am kind of getting back into anime. I never really stopped as much as College, work, moving to a different place and getting myself established.
I would constantly work and feel guilty if I wasn't doing some kind of chore or studying.

there is a movie that take place about one year after and it have them reunite with each other and we even get to see where all fairys live.
This series made me CRY. I went into it thinking it would be all fluffy but OH GOD when Greta realizes that the piano she got for her birthday had belonged to Saga's mother and has a breakdown, shouting "I didn't know...I DIDN'T KNOW!" to an empty room... I'm crying just thinking of it!
And the ending where Saga suspects the passerby boy can see Sugar even though she no longer can, I was shouting GO AFTER HIM!

Ahh yess childhood!! I loved this series to bits, I actually almost forgot the title of this since it goes long way back~ I might look at your Ashita no Nadja vid too, which has been on my watchlist ever since like junior high I still haven't gone on with it cuz it has like 50 episodes, I didn't know it was that long XDD I'm honestly one to talk, when I watched all of Fushigi Boshi Futago-hime and it's second seasons so~

Princess Tutu is set in Germany! Gold Crown Town is fictional BUT it's based on the real German town of Nördlingen which is also the town Attack on Titan's town was based on lmao (Tutu did it first 👀)!! What I love about Princess Tutu is that even though it's not afraid to be very Japanese in many ways like the uniforms and the characters obviously they put a lot of effort into making it clear they are German and in Germany. Fakir does speak German (I believe in both the sub and dub but I only know for the sure the dub) in an episode and every shot of the setting from shops to signs are ALLL in German and the backgrounds in general are all one to one paintings of real places in Nördlingen. It's so cool how much attention was put into the setting!!
As you can tell I not only love Princess Tutu but I also love anime that are set in other countries. It's always really interesting and when done feel is genuinely some of my favorite anime like Magi is another one that while is not directly set in any real country, takes a TON of inspiration from countries like India and Israel and many many others! It's so cool

Seeing the fairie's and even fairycore themed genre's in anime or even tv show's and movie's or even video game's are so very rarely underrated yet so very interesting to me because it definitely peeks my interest and it definitely wish that make's me wanted to see more of the fairy like media's and even more fairycore themed media's around the world or even elsewhere once more once again! And so then thank you so very much for sharing this wonderfully hidden gem for me sailor gaurdian hope I've definitely appreciated it and it definitely warm's my heart and it make's me smile to see an underrated hidden gem of an anime that nobody and i do mean nobody talks about or even seen or heard about this hidden gem of an anime and so then everyone speaks out and talked,seen or even heard about this hidden diamond in the rough anime for many generations to generation's yet to come once again and so then thank you so much for sharing this video hope I've definitely appreciated it and so then keep it up the fantastic work because you are the best and the most wonderfully talented person!!!

Ohh when I first heard of that anime I wanted to watch it so badly! But it was during the times where it wasn't really that easy to find subbed anime on the internet to download and the only .avi pack I managed to find would take weeeks to download so I gave up and forgot about it.

I remember watching this when i was getting into watching anime online. No idea how it caught my eye as a male teenager, but it was incredibly cute and i enjoyed watching.
Spoiler warning
I think my favorite episode was one where the fairies went off on a trip to see a grown snow fairy at work. I forget most of the details, but i remember that Sugar and her friends were nervous because the snow fairy was late, so Sugar used her powers and made it snow, but it only lasted for a moment...before the grown fairy took over and made it snow properly. But afterwards she cheekily said that Sugar's snow was the most important, because it was the first snowflakes the children of the town saw, and that's what makes them happiest.
Hopefully this rings a bell for others who have watched the show and isnt just something my memory invented 😅 its been ages since i watched it after all
