- The Catalonia coast & mountains offer roads that make for a beautiful riding destination, particularly in the off-season. The scenery is fantastic, the roads are great and the food is delicious. I spent a few days exploring Catalonia's varied terrain with Revv Travel on a brand-new BMW R1300GS. Based on the outskirts of Barcelona, Revv Travel offers tours for people looking to explore the region and take in some culture and history. A great option for UK riders is the short 2-day trips which allow you to nip on a cheap flight for the weekend, explore numerous routes and still be back in time for work on Monday. In the video, you'll also see how I broke the BMW and why it has a weak spot to watch out for!

What a fabulous ride. I holiday in Catalonia most years, and it's such a shame you turned back south just as the roads and scenery get better. If you are up that way again I highly recommend making your way north to Cadaques and the Cap de Creus (pronounced Kadda-kess). From there take the mountain pass to Cerbere in France then continue along the coast to Perpignan. You can also visit Andorra, the roads to which are truly some of the best biking roads I have ever been on.
Wow! a fabulous trip. A great review. Thanks Tony
Nice one Tony. What a wonderfully filmed trip. Revv Travel now saved to notes.
What a great idea, weekend fly/ride.
That's a great advert for Revv but not for the BMW GS 1300!
Thanks for showcasing this service, seems like a great option for a weekend away!
Looks fantastic.Thanks.
Thanks for watching
Perfect winter therapy.
How could you not like that?
One to add to the list..
Ride safe 👍
Great video Tony. Super music choice too ❤
I have ridden and driven along the Gl682 on a few occasions it has to be one of my favourite roads in Europe, it can get busy these days in the Summer hoping to get out there again this year, great video
sounds good i will give it some thought
That looked superb and like you say, being able to nip away for a couple of days will be ideal for many people.
Brilliant - Great to know about this concept of a two day trip and your presentation of the route was excellent - well done mate.
Many thanks!
Nice vid mate. I love riding Spain. 👍🏻
Tasteful music to boot!
21:05 Fantastic conversion on the left. Even has garages for the bike. Nick
Nice video from you. I love watching these sorts of adventures with great insight for future destinations. Top marks go to Revv Travel for demonstrating excellent customer service. Look forward to your next exploits.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant video, ridden in Spain a few times bit further down the coast South of Granada in the Sierra Nevada National Park/Mountains, the scenery was equally brilliant, roads fabulous and the hospitality equally great. To feel the sun on your back on roads like that as you said Tony what’s not to like and if you love motorcycling then this is a must. Another good un Tony, keep up the good work. 👍😊
Thanks Robin
Looks fantastic, great video. A shame about the 1300GS but these things happen.
Great vid Tony. I will be heading down that way on T7 on 26th April for a week. Cannot wait, especially after watching this😉
Such a lovely place to ride
My mate and I took our bonnies down to Tossa de Mar through France to the Pyrenees then along the cost to Tossa, the roads were awesome
I like the red spyder in the garage , u are lucky to ride at this time in Spain .........We are getting snow tonight , might see if they rent the spyder for a few days next time in Spain , nice road must be great for a ride , I might just book a week end of may ( from Canada) after looking at your fantastic ride.... ( ok some more expenses .. but sh**i happen as you got planted but you get a new bike ..) really have given me the taste.....Its also very good that you mix in your video bike & equipment review and some tours ... Alain & Yellow
Strange, I spoke to these guys at the NEC and was looking at their flyer this morning. Seems like a great idea, looks like a really nice short break.
This and the Pyrenees are my favorite areas to ride after the Alps. The costal road Tossa de Mar is unbeatable. From Sant Feliu to Lloret de Mar is none-stop technical twisties.
At least you ended up on the better bike 😉
Hi Tony, we’re flying to Barcelona in 24hrs but a family holiday rather than what you did. Great video and so helpful for a future trip 😀
Glad it was helpful! Have a nice holiday!
Excellent video Tony. Really enjoyed it. Bad luck with the bike . Shit happens . 👍
"Bad luck...". It was poor judgement, not bad luck.
Yep it was, as not someone who has ridden GS’s very much I forgot how wide the cylinders are. We’ve all made little mistakes like that. Bad luck that such a smalll misjudgement had a such big consequences, I think that’s what the OP was referring to
Absolutely. We have all made misjudgments but the effects of such a minor misjudgment in this case are significant. Fair credit to the company for being so reasonable about it. @@mancavemoto
Great video thanks for the heads-up. Careful Tony they might start calling you ' Plant pot One' 😁
🤭😂
That looked lovely and the two day tour would be handy for my work situation... I will be looking into booking a two day tour with Revv Travel, prob not until autumn though... I don't actually have a passport atm though!
Ouch sorry about the mishap 😢 methinks Revv travel with be fitting cylinder head protection going forward.
They had already ordered them by the time I got back the following day
Methinks EVERY GS1300 rider with a brain will be ordering protection for their beloved 'unbreakable' bike...Just imagine if this happened in the deserts of Morocco where you can't get a phone signal...
Was thinking the same thing, you only tapped that pot, and cut through a wire. Seems like poor design and a definite vulnerability.
What a glorious break from the winter doldrums 😃👍! I know a lot of comments have been about adding crash bars, but it does seem like a miss by BMW not protecting that wiring with something more than a plastic cover, given how vulnerable, and necessary, it is 🤔.
Imagine if this had happened in a telephone black-spot in the deserts of Morocco? Seems to me like BMW have dropped the ball with this bike as this was clearly a very 'easy-to-do' incident.
Yes, and after checking it appears that this is not how the wiring loom is routed on the 1250 and earlier bikes
great video thanks for taking us along. did you lose an insurance deposit because of the mishap?
Thankfully no
Looks awesome, Tony. Thanks for putting this together. Out of interest, what gear are you riding in, please, Tony? TIA
Cheers. It’s a Rev’it Offtrack 2 jacket, and Klim Switchback Cargo Pants.
@@mancavemoto thank you, Tony.
11:34. Ouch I bet that was an expensive tap.
Good insurance cover thankfully
I wonder if there are or will be, after market/3rd party upgrades for the engine cable protectors? I wonder if Bruce (teapotone) has any news or research on this issue for his own new GS?
The OEM Crash bars would do the trick.
Hi mate, are there any hidden costs like extra insurance for peace of mind? Upselling extra services.
Initial price is great
No hidden costs no, not sure if there is an option to add extra insurance coverage? Bear in mind that price is per person based on a rider and pillion. A single rider will pay a bit more.
Great video! The only thing is that the music is not from Spain, is more a caribean style. If they sing in Spanish doesn't mean that is from Spain 😂
Thanks, although both pieces of music are by Spanish artists.
@@mancavemotobut Latin Music, like Salsa. That sound is from Latin America. Anyways, just a comment, great video as usual. Thanks.
No wonder new bike launches seem to always be in Spain.
So we can see how easily the mighty new GS can be rendered useless?
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne First new bike launch review in Spain that I've seen where flowerpot > bike. lol
Absolutely. Rendered useless by a flowerpot...! pmsl@@shegocrazy
Engine guards would have prevented the broke bike!
True, but regardless of that it's a pretty poor design!
yeah, well it is a boxer motor. I'm surprised the rental company doesn't install them, cheap insurance.@@mancavemoto
@@robb8773 yep, the bikes were new in and as I mentioned in the video the engine guards were on order and have now arrived. Still it’s a poor piece of design to run that wiring there. It doesn’t appear it’s the case on the 1250?
Yeah for sure. On my 1250GS wire comes from behind the cylinder and then to the middle, not in front like the 1300. I love my 1250 but do want to take a test ride on the 1300. I might be looking for trouble, lol@@mancavemoto
Great adventure bike, killed by a flower pot... WTF
Yes, all other adventure bikes can hit their unprotected cylinders on solid stone and be fine. Stop trolling.
@@simulacrae OK. Whatever.
@@simulacrae Every other adventure bike has its cylinders sticking out like the GS. If you say so.
@@luckysxm yeah so? But you’re just one of the anti 1300gs crowd that sped your crap on every video.
@@simulacrae it’s the first time I commented on RUclips about the GS. And probably the last one, seeing how butthurt GS fans are when someone doesn’t love their beloved toy. Useless.
New HONDA ATAS 2024 or GS 1300. I tried gs and is superb bike. Not try afrika. Plese tell what you buy. Money not issue
You’d need to ride both and buy the one you prefer. 👍
Omg now that looked like a fantastic spot for a few days away, Spain , great people amazing weather and amazing food ,, that’s rite up my street I’ll be definitely looking into Revv Travel 🫡👏👍🙋🏻♂️
I have traveled to Catalonia many times. Ironically just where Tony turned back is where the scenery really picks up. If you do go, I can highly recommend you continue north to Cadaques (pronounced Kadda-Kess), then on to the Cap de Creus, then ride to Argeles-Sur-Mer in France via the coast road. Stunning to say the least. On the way back you can ride via Andorra and the Pyrenees mountains. Biking doesn't get much better.
