It's interesting to me that so many local brands occupy the mall. About 3 years ago, other people in the community saw it as Moonbeam's one sucess story. At the time, I still was processing other moonbeam malls I'd seen in vids. I filmed the JCP (twice) and the Spirit/AtHome once. I think it's odd that Spirit didn't use the mall entry. I think it's interesting that the Habitat for Humanity ReStore moved into the mall. I still find it quite wild just how many instances of malls there are that had (or have) two Dillards stores, and it's interesting how Dillards went down to only one in this mall, much like how Cheyenne's Frontier Mall more recently did.
All depends on the leasees and if they're still paying and/or can get out. Leases like this are usually 10-20 years and it's a lotta negotiation and zoning to get in/out of these Mothertruckers. If I had excessive investment capital, I would buy this place and just live there by myself. Don't know why celebrities spend stupid money on mansions when they could just live like Willy Wonka in an abandoned mall.
Haha I like it! I think there's a guy who lives in a full high-school just his family kinda like what you're saying. They're on RUclips. I think the big issue is maintenance, cleaning, and heating. But if you're Willy Wonka rich...
Man dying malls make me so sad for some reason. I was just in lewisville Texas a month ago and they have The Vista Mall, it looked exactly like this mall but even more dead :(
I grew up close to this mall. It was at its best in the 70s and 80s. Sears, Joslin, Montgomery Ward, Fashion Bar, Penny's. I worked at the Arby's back in 1977. It had a huge dining room. My family ate at the Joslins restaurant. I am so sad to see it dying like that. Thank you for showing. Hopefully someone will take it over and revamp it.
I used to work on the pipeline in Briggsdale in 2014. The mall felt like it was dying back then. Feels like most of the local just went over to Loveland to hangout.
The truth is that this mall has been dying since the fountain was removed. Before then it was a place we would hang out in. The loss of the fountain saw the non-stop decline of the mall. Now half the property has been redeveloped with crappy apartment buildings.
Looks livelier than the mall in West Glenwood. While it is pretty small, only about 5 of the over 30+ storefronts are occupied and it is definitely held up by the Ross and Famous Footwear stores. Even the DMV got out of there years ago.
Many years ago, I started watching these dead mall type of series by guys like Dan Bell and Retail Archeology, wishing someone would do a series on a mall I grew up around. I had actually made a trip back to Greeley a couple of years after I had moved back to Colorado and It was crazy seeing how dead the mall was back then, and that was like 5 years ago. Quite different from the mall I remember from the early 90's.
It's been like this for 15-20 years or so. They attempted a remodel/theater addition but didn't really help. It's about location too. Not in the greatest location anymore. The bricked off hall is where the now demolished Sears used to be.
I grew up West of Greeley and I don't ever remember going there as a kid. We'd always make the drive to Fort Collins and hit the Foothills Fashion Mall.
I agree. I was born and raised right here in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We only have two Malls remaining. The Citadel Mall, as well as The Chapel Hills Mall. Both are REALLY DOING HORRIBLY!!!!
The pizza joint in the green and white checkered spot next to the cinemark was so damn good, I still think about that place almost 15 years later. It sucks because this mall was amazing back in the day
I never knew Greely had a mall. I was born and raised in and still live in Denver Colorado. I’ve been to alot of the malls in the state but didn’t know about Greely
It's changed a lot recently! The generic mall stores are slowly dying and local businesses are filling in the empty spaces. There's even a really cool car museum where one of the empty anchor stores used to be!
@@MikeWasoski838 I know that some windows were broken, like on the roof and the floor and shops inside were destroyed. If you do an update on this mall, its actually getting more shops in it!
I have an edit/add-in for this video on the Sears Anchor: According to the Wyoming State Tribune Eagle newspaper dated Oct 7, 8, 1980, Sears at the Greeley Mall would be set to open on November 5th, 1980, the same year the Cheyenne, Wyoming store opened.
colorado. my state i dont think i've ever been to this mall. it looks sad. reminds me of one in CO springs, which is very desolate. and is probably lonelier now.
I went to the Cinemark to see Dune earlier this year but didn't go inside the actual mall itself; even while being overseas only a few years, this place has died so much more. Covid killed it especially, it's crazy to see it in this state now
This is how the citadel (im co Springs) looked back in 2018 after a shooting at hooters. I just wanted to do some Pokémon GO and all i could hear was lavender town theme. Some stores never opened again and got sold. Some events destroy malls, but it doesn't always last as online stores were really taking off.
Oh no this is sad to see it about breaks my heart. I moved to Greeley 12 years ago and and left exactly 11 years ago. Greeley's always been a small farming community and has significantly grown. I was rather shocked to see a Mall a small Mall but a mall nonetheless. The ranch and cattle is more than wealthy enough to support one of these smaller malls. Just like Fort Collins had a really small mall before I built the Foothills Mall & then upgraded that 7 years back. Heading up in for covid I'm sure it would still be doing better than it is currently. Back in 2012 I would say probably a quarter of the mall is out of business maybe 1/3. Not an uncommon percentage for malls who managed to survive the recession. I wouldn't expect a small mall to survive except for ones located near military base, like the one we have in Cheyenne. So Greeley Mall caught me by surprise. If it doesn't shut down I still think it has a feature in that area it's just been very hard for our economy the past 25 years. °~•.☆.•~°
Greeley mall was a gang banger hang out in the 90s. The entire property is surrounded by fast food, several low income run down apartments and some light vacant industrial lots. It's in the center of Greeley and not at all a desirable location. All good shopping has moved out west to follow the new nicer neighborhoods amd people with disposable income.
every mall ive ever been to in my life was so weird. they r such wide places, so much empty space and so little people shopping in them. i always wondered how they stayed in business
it's a solid little mall, the asian store is worth a visit, got some game shopping, and a few small buisnesses there, food is great there, good atmospheere, solid mall to chill at.
Have you been to the malls in Pueblo, Grand Junction and Cheyenne Wyoming. The GJ one is fantastic. I haven't been to the Pueblo one in 3 years but it was very nice. Same for Cheyenne Mall. Check them out.
The only one on that list I haven’t been to is Grand Junction, and it’s solely been because of the driving distance to there from Denver. I have a video of Frontier Mall in Cheyenne out on my channel, and I did visit Pueblo Mall last year. I do want to get back out to the one in Pueblo sometime soon, because I wasn’t satisfied with my original footage there
The mall is a dead concept now. Too much overhead and not easy to get in and out quickly which us what people want. No one wants to spend 2 hours shopping now.
The mall suffers much for its location. It’s in the far east of town while most growth these days is out west. It’s also separated from town by the highway- it’s basically an enclave within Evans. If someone’s going to fight through traffic to go to a parking lot sea and get shopping done, they’ll go to Centerplace or the Greeley Walmart or the Evans Walmart. The entrance isn’t that inviting and the road access/parking is ugly. It’s just lacking a sense of “place,” I guess. I’m glad there’s local businesses in there, but if I worked for the city and had limited resources for economic development… I’d focus on investing in the university neighborhoods and downtown. I’m not sure what you could do with the mall that would turn it around.
What are your thoughts on Greeley Mall, and what do you think it's future holds?
It's interesting to me that so many local brands occupy the mall. About 3 years ago, other people in the community saw it as Moonbeam's one sucess story. At the time, I still was processing other moonbeam malls I'd seen in vids.

It's Greeley, I mean the entire town smells of manure, turn it into a stock yard. homeless barracks, or college dorms.
This is where I live.
This place was amazing when i was a kid.
u can blame the obsession of continuously increasing profit margins over innovation and risk taking for this
It’s honestly pretty sad to see a place I went to a lot as a child die slowly. I have so many memories here and I miss what this place used to be.
I still visit this mall. A lot of new businesses come and go here sadly, but the ones who stayed are wonderful. Especially the Asian gift store.

back when Soap shoes were a thing we'd get kicked out of here all the time because we'd grind the old tile planters that used to be down the middle 😂
