Making a Comical Extending Boxing Glove - The Engineering Process

- Straight out of a cartoon- this is the scissor mechanism powered, fully 3D printed, highly engineered extending boxing glove.
It's comical, it extends, and there's a boxing glove on the end...but then it's also trigger activated. This piece is a functional sculpture that looks great on display but packs a punch when you decide to take advantage of the 'functional' part of the sculpture.
The whole thing is 3D printed on a basic desktop printer and uses no additional hardware or components. All you need is a 3D printed and some PLA and you can make this thing yourself. The scissor mechanism driving this piece is modular, so you can make it as long or as short as you like! You might even be able to make it long AF!

I legit remember having a toy like that as a kid. Though the handle was a different shape, it also used something like a trigger to "punch". It was a lot smaller and flimsier than your version though 😂.
It did have some way to retract itself if you released, though I don't remember how. Probably an elastic. I do remember it eventually breaking after a lot of use.

That was great, like your other works! Maybe adding the elastic force to it to have heavier punches, easier trigger to pull, and automatic mechanism would be fun!
Make a larger one you can wear that will extend your punch by one or two times....h beam connecting rods will help it not flop sideways. Place the handle at your reach extended. Single strap the end to your shoulder so you can easily manipulate direction like uzi.

Something like this costs about $6 CAD to make (maybe about $8 if you’re going for the long AF size 😂)

I tried making one of these at school from aluminium but never finished it. was going to have a real glove on the end but just left it as a sharp point because I didn't know how to attach it.

What is the BotherBot or blog or blot or brotherbot .. etc. You obviously put tons of hours of work and thought and research into all these builds. This one wss inspired by this pre fabbed scissor mechanism. Who is this and what link do you have for this other (botherbot) builder/designer?
Good documentation. What is the best way to make it stiffer at longer lengths? I'm working on a camera system where I can send the camera out from my boat to record the boat moving through the water, then bring it back. Was hoping for an 8' arm...
It can't really be stiff if it's thin. Look at how structural beams of steel are made, they need to be wide on the direction they are gonna get loaded. Careful beacause a wide thin part will of course resist bending on one direction, but will wobble or even worse, twist and buckle

You need to add some comedy to your vids. This was really cool to watch but it was missing something....I realized it was a comedic approach like Michael Reeves. I think your channel would grow so quickly if you did.
