Bro... I literally made the exact same rhythm mechanics (I was covering DDR) in a game jam that I did like 6 months ago! Same engine and even started in the same place (implementing the conductor). The coincidence is too great and I was just shocked the entire time watching this. Great stuff!
Biggest respect for setting the bar low, for the purpose of being able to get past the worst. Currently in a similiar scenario. Best of luck to all of us, here and there.
Hi, this is a really nice game. Although I noticed a issue with the sprites, the problem is all your sprites are low resolution. And when pixel art is upscaled, it's extremely blurred. But all you have to do to fix that is reimport your assets with filter off. In that case, you'll have pixel art looking as proper! P.S The import button is next to the scene button
In Godot 4 it's a property in CanvasItem nodes for turning texture filtering on/off (this setting is applied to all child/grandchild nodes etc so just set it for your top level CanvasItem/Control/Node2D nodes). It's no longer an import setting.
@@kevinscales oh man that's great to hear. i enjoyed Godot when i first tried it but found this (and a few other things) to be so unnecessarily clunky-with this and the new functional capabilities they added to GDscript, i might give it a shot again 😁
I'm sorry your game didn't work out, but if it's any consolation, looking at your first video you set out to make a really grounded and achievable game which is something very few people get right. I'm sure you will do well in the future!
Thanks so much! I still intend to make a full game some day, but I really need to focus on learning the basics first. The last 2 large projects I tried working on I ended up burning out to just wanting to re-write everything after learning better and more efficient ways of doing things. I'm hoping once I have a better grasp on the basics I'll be able to build a better foundation without feeling like I'm coding myself into a hole
Ok I think this man really underestimates what scratch can really do. But yes something made by a six year old would be terrible, but if you actually look at turbowarp, which just allows for scratch projects to be run faster, you will find the true gems and highlights of scratch, from a small Minecraft demo, to physics engines, and even full on retro game engines all made from scratch. (Pun intended). I really think that people put scratch down for it's limitations and bad reputation of projects, but we must make sure they see the light.
Just some After Effects / Premiere stuff. I didn't do a whole lot in this video but I want to incorporate some more 2D motion graphics stuff like that for future videos in this series
@@CasuallyCreative_ Thanks for the response, I figured, I've been trying out Davinci Resolve but with larger projects it seems to get buggy. I like your content, keep it up!
I do hope you know that most of Unity's controversy was a misunderstanding. It was mainly them partnering with a company that was associated with viruses, because people ended up using their app to spread viruses (The company couldn't do anything to stop this). The only non-misunderstanding was ceo calling people f***ing idiots. They were saying "If you don't do this, you are an idiot" but it's still not good to call someone an idiot.
I make a lot of jokes in my videos but that wasn't really a joke, I genuinely was just too lazy to read into it but I assumed that the controversy was blown out of proportion and I have nothing against Unity. I will say, I didn't start using Godot because of the controversy, me saying that was just for the bit, I just like learning new things. I basically saw the articles pop up and thought "I should get back into game dev and Godot seemed kind of interesting"
Hello there, currently I'm trying to learn Godot with c# but I just can't seem to find any good resources to learn it with. I've been looking all around but there just seems to be a lack of tutorials. Can you give me some resources you used?
Honestly I feel you. Unfortunately I can't really help much. I relied heavily on my small amount of Unity experience and the Godot documentation to figure things out. A lot of the time I had to just try to convert gdscript to c#. Thankfully a lot of the functions are similar but stuff for like tilemaps I found myself just having to dig through documentation for a good amount of time to get some answers, especially for Godot 4 where things are changed for tilemap stuff
I gotta say, taking on smaller projects has been helping a lot. I went from working on 2 large projects that I never got even close to finishing to almost completing 2 of these minigames within a month. Definitely helps with the motivation and lets you experiment with a lot more things
Possibly eventually, at the moment Im really trying to focus on my own knowledge and improving my skills before doing anything where people are reliant on me for something
Yeah, you look like the kind of guy that makes his decisions based on what everybody else finds "controversial" so decide to needlessly make things harder just to follow the trend of screechers
"Embarrass myself in upwards of tens of viewers" *has 52k views while I'm watching*
Now that's a valid reason
Thats the best reason 😂
I love getting into a video that has the title "learning", then hear "Luckily my years of software engineering came in handy".

I feel like everyone makes this mistake when they first use godot, myself included.

I've been making games for 40 years. I still can't finish things today. So there you go. But I still love making games.
Big shout out to the other tens of viewers watching this
You had me at "i have a problem". Subbed.
This is cool but I honestly can’t tell how the enemy attacks work lol I just see the colors changing
yk i really liked this devlog i subbed can’t wait for more!
New video is already well on it's way

Thanks so much :)
@@CasuallyCreative_ np, you deserve more subs :)
I loved your content! Please make more.
Deal
I plan to make a videogame using pygame once I graduate this year
Making my friends' lives miserable is an amazing motivation
I'm commenting immediately after hearing, "...so I want to do it on purpose." We are going to be friends 😂
I don't know who you are but I like you. Subscribed.
Thanks!
I can't believe no one's mentioned Crypt of the NecroDancer yet. That said, I'm only here to mention it so *shrug*. Great job though 👍
That game was actually the biggest inspiration for me for the actual gameplay style. Such a unique and cool game

The title is so accurate 🤣
"I have a lot of problems" same
*listens to intro*
Me: I'd fight him in Super Smash Bros
Looking forward to more
Glad to hear it!
This was a really fun video😁
Ey godot, you got my sub 🤝
Almost finished with the game for the next video and I got to say I really enjoy working in Godot
I left unity for godot for basically the same reason
Lmao I'm just glad you went to use Godot! I find it so much more user friendly
Honestly glad I switched, I've been really enjoying it
Hi, I really like the format you've got going on. I was curious what software you use to make the little 2D animations in the Game plan section?
Just some After Effects / Premiere stuff. I didn't do a whole lot in this video but I want to incorporate some more 2D motion graphics stuff like that for future videos in this series

1:07 Guy... who hurt you?
it was me.
It was him
Great video mate!
Thanks!
I'm your 1000 sub, YAY!!!
This is infuriating it seems everyone but me can do this with so much ease lol 😂 I'm definitely drinking tonight
I mean it helps I have 10 years of software development experience. I definitely wouldn't be able to pick up on things as quickly without it
@@CasuallyCreative_ I literally watch children pick this up with ease but I'm here struggling to study lol
Subbed!
Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
New here... why isn't the music in the video in the same bpm as the game when showing playtests?
Because I'm dumb tbh. Thought of it like a day after I released the video
What do you do if don't have friends?

in the future you could put this in another game down the line. I think it would be fun to play.
I kinda of want to come back to these older games in a few months and see if I can actually make them playable
Hi I also love making games! I am pretty much in the same situation as you lmao.

I'm here for you
Man said 10’s of viewers
I mean technically it's not wrong
how did you learn godot in C#?
Through a lot of reading the documentation, then guessing, then crying, then repeating until I figure it out
Adam obviously used the Konami code... Turned on invulnerability I guess lol
That was definitely it for sure
if your friends are annoyed with how you enjoy games get new friends i do the same thing and i got new friends and its a lot better
That is definitely good advice in general but the opening bit of this video was very much a joke. My friends are really fucking sick
Nice video 👍
Thank you!
i wanted to hit like but it was already at 666 and i'm not ruining that... so have a comment instead! o/
