For someone who’s not worried about the bezels … why are you talking about them so much ? They are there , it’s the budget phone so if it bothers people , buy a more expensive pixel .
People complain way too much about the bezels on the 8a. Yet the base model iPhones that are $250 more still have that ugly ass notch that to me it was more of an eye sore. Where the value comes in is the 7 years of support and getting most of the 8 and 8 pro experience for much less. I have owned Pixels off and on since the 4a and each year I'm drawn back to them when they are on sale for the value they offer. At the moment trying to decide between the 8a and the base 9 model. A huge reason I'm considering the 8a is if it goes on sale it'll be half the price of a 9 and I'd still be getting most of the same experience.
I 100% agree with your take on the pixel 8a. I know a lot of RUclipsrs are complaining about the bezels, Pat like you said, it's $500. You need to manage your expectations. Also, I think when you put into perspective that the screen is good. The cameras are good. The battery is good, 7 years of OS updates and feature drops, I would way rather have a slightly bigger bezel than lose those other features. Great video!
3:55 my personal experience with my 7a is it improving over time. Battery life and performance is much improved from when I got it in May 2023. Android 14 played a large part in this, as since then the phone stopped heating up for normal tasks. Love Pixel phones ❤
Who cares about the bezel. It’s an affordable solid phone. Alot of people are becoming too picky about their phones. Imo, it should be a decision of what software ecosystem they prefer.
Work gave us $500 to spend on a phone. I grabbed a Pixel 8a ‘free to me’ not expecting much. Kinda blown away. It punches way above its weight. I put a case on and don’t notice/care about the bezels because the screen is pretty damn good. Chews through what I throw at it without a hitch, doesn’t get hot, feels very nice in the hand and takes very nice pictures that rival my iPhone 15 pro max until it comes time to zoom. The crop to 5x with Googles editing tools can produce some great images too. Battery life easily gets me though a day with 3-4 hours SOT. Great bang for the buck if you ask me.
I got the phone for free when I switched carriers, a Black Friday deal. Also got a $50 grocery gift card. I'm paying the same price per month as with the old provider, but get 50 GB more. I tend to keep my phone for many years, so I liked the 7 years of support, plus the good photo reviews. I don't need the best on the market. I can't figure out the different screens, my old one is a Samsung and easy to navigate. Early days though.
This is the first review I’ve seen complaining about the screen and it looking dated. It’s a budget phone. I don’t think anybody thinks it’s more than that.
I just recieved the 8a in the mail. I will send it back. Coming from a Pixel 4a it is too big ,heavy and uninspiring, no need to turn it on. I will run my 4a to the ground and hope for a miracle that a small format pixel (or other Android device) comes out in the next 1-2 years 🙏 If not I guess I have to get the 8a (or 9a if it is not way bigger) as a last resort 😥

I’ve swapped from iPhone 12 to Pixel 8a and I actually prefer the bezel like this, with a case on I’ve often struggling to perform ‘edge of screen’ gestures due to the case being too close to the edge of the screen, also accidentally pressed the screen while gripping onto it.
I love the 8a! People are making too big of a deal out of the bezel IMO. I had the 6a previously and I enjoyed that phone, too, but this one is much faster.
People really nitpick about the weirdest stuff. To me the Pixel 8a actually does look a bit like the blue iPhone Xr which is amazing for me, cos the Xr was one of my favorite iPhones ever made, and I've always wanted something with that look and feel but updated hardware. The blue 8a specifically is a beautiful device.
Hey bro , it's nice to see that someone is addressing the end user experience after using it for month... So Kudos to you bruh ... But one thing I'd like to point out is that screen is the most useful component of a smartphone so the bezel can be smaller imo but 120Hz compensate that unlike iphone 16 👎... So thumps up to G 8a 👍
Love the Pixel 8a I got for $399 with 6 months free with 12 month plan from Mint Mobile Unlimited service. Phone and service for entire year $580 all in. Crazy savings over my T Mobile Magenta plan for the past 2 years that was $2400. Much better pictures than my s22 and battery life. Love the 8a design better than the new Pixel 9 that looks and feels like Iphone and Samsung blocky in hand feeling. I am sure it is a great phone, but there is not anything I cannot do on the 8a for less money with no penalty in performance.

A well presented video. I am looking to buy a new Android phone, to replace my existing Nokia 7+. As I like to trust the well known brands, I am really only considering the Pixel 8a or the Galaxy A55 I take pictures /videos with my phone, so the quality of the camera is important for me. I think I prefer the Pixel, but have seen comments elsewhere saying trying to download images to the computer is sometimes a problem with this phone, which may be a big snag ... don’t get me started, I used my wife’s iPhone and getting pictures from that to a Windows PC is anything but easy
I want to buy this phone and keep It for like 7 years due to updates. I would like to know if the version of 128 GB Is enough (i save everything on Cloud but i don't know about sistem and updates)
Had my phone since release. I got it with my phone subscription for free (actually, I pay a little bit less than before) so price was great :D I could not care about the bezels, they are about the same as on my daughters iphone 13 (one of those phones that people love the design off :P I do not really care about software support either, since I usually get a new phone ever 2 or 3 year :) But nice I guess. Never had any problem with battery or charging, since I usually charge the phone in the car to work (40 min ride) so I never see the battery or charging speed as a problem. Only thing I miss is a macro functionality in the camera??? This is a big what? in my view. First camera I bought that I can not find a macro camera in.
I got the 8a yesterday to test it out from google store. In the category of budget phone, its a good phone. But when it comes to the OS experience, if you like customization then go android. But if not, just go ios. Im actually returning the pixel and sticking with my iphone. Im older now and realizing that the customization ability is not important anymore.
I have such buyers remorse with the 8a. I wish I'd done more research before I got persuaded by t-mobile to get it. It's horrible and I really miss my old phone which was much easier to navigate.
@@JSLReview My last phone was an LG-M327. They don't make them anymore and after six years, it was starting to fail so I had to get something else. The thing is, it may not have been that sophisticated but it was easier for me to use (I'm 65) There was a "clear-all" button on it so whatever app I was in, I could quickly and easily exit if I needed to. The Pixel 8a is a real pain in that regard. I swipe up, down and backwards and sometimes just can't clear the screen. It feels very busy to me - getting from one app to another is extremely frustrating. I never experienced this with my other phone. The most awful thing is my contact list. The contacts (and there are a lot) are not mine. I don't know who they belong to. Yesterday I contacted Google chat for assistance. TWO AND A HALF HOURS and NO RESOLUTION. The chat was totally useless. In the end, I just broke down into tears and gave up. So; here I am with a phone I find hard to use that I feel T-Mobile mislead me into purchasing (I was supposed to get a free phone with the plan). To top it all, this new phone doesn't even feel like it's mine because it's filled with someone else's photos (from a Greek holiday) and phone numbers for contacts that I don't recognize. I can't begin to tell you how much regret I have about purchasing it but thank you for asking.

I used to scrutinize and compare every phone i bought or wanted to buy and thought of myself as my own "educated" user and reviewer. I stopped a long time ago because I had been using 3 phones for daily use for a long time. I'd swap phones like a hobby. As more time went by. I found I used my budget phones more than the flagships i owned. The mid range phones are so good these days that they're really enough for me.
I think a lot of google ai feature (especially the photo magic editor) it is not because of the processor but because it is pixel 8a, it is not the processor that is doing the work, but the phone send it to the cloud, that's why when you turn of your internet it will not work, but correct me if I'm wrong
Do you think the bezel is like that because of cost? it doesn't cost them anything. they just create a worst product to justify the pricing of their flagships.

Me to. But the 8a is 31% heavier than the 4a. I don't like that.
@@drfisheye Me neither. But my 4a is slowly falling apart and I don't know of any better alternative.
Fingerprints not recognised, Phone just freezes no matter what app im using. Photos awesome. 2 weeks experience
@@F4Z1NGAMING did you update the the latest software? I’m not having any issues with freezing and though a bit slow, the finger print reader is working fine for me.
@@JSLReview Got June update and screen sensitivity is on
I am using fingerprint for almost everything, but I panicked, when the phone was asking my PIN, did enter 2x wrong PIN code. And uptill now no freezing up. It always respond. I like the fast charging battery with a 33 Watt USB charger and a 1 week battery usage, although I turn data lots off.
@@frankieatworld7321 Pixel 8a has max of 18w wired charging.
Freezes? You must've gotten a bad egg
For someone who’s not worried about the bezels … why are you talking about them so much ? They are there , it’s the budget phone so if it bothers people , buy a more expensive pixel .
for the 1ST time in forever. nice video!!!
@@augusthirdsm appreciate the feedback, thank you!
Coming from a phone with almost no bezel (LG V60) and getting tired of constantly hitting things accidently with my palm, I cant wait to get the 8a.
Switched to pixel 6 and loved it just got an 8A and though I liked the look of the 6 the best I can say the 8A is up to date
Got mines waiting for me tomorrow, I’m excited
Just ordered mine in green 💚
I just bought this phone just cause I got it $420 and needed something cheap. I still use my OnePlus 10. Thank you for the review
I just recieved the 8a in the mail. I will send it back. Coming from a Pixel 4a it is too big ,heavy and uninspiring, no need to turn it on. I will run my 4a to the ground and hope for a miracle that a small format pixel (or other Android device) comes out in the next 1-2 years 🙏 If not I guess I have to get the 8a (or 9a if it is not way bigger) as a last resort 😥
just bought mine, and due to arrive end of the week, reduced now to £250.00 256gb, coming from a sony xperia 5iv i cant wait. couldnt take a decent pic on that phone, far too many settings for simpleton like me
where did you buy it from for 250?
@@gracegulliford2079 I bought it on facebook. however I don't like it lol, i could swap the strap out, i have the 6l venture sling and its fine for me so i;m going to be putting it on ebay if anyone is interested
Thanks for the video. I'm getting the 8a for free with trade-in of an s22. This video made me a little more comfortable with the trade.
Got mine at 185€, you just can't beat it at that price...
Please tell me anyone
How to video call on pixel 8a without google meet 😢 previously I'm using oppo a17k that was directly supported video call but the pixel 8a is redirected to google meet

Has anyone had a problem downloading apps from Google Play Store via WiFi? After selecting the app, it does not load or update at all. I restarted the system to factory, uninstalled the Google Play Store and nothing. Apps are normally downloaded only via mobile data
This phone just went on sale for Google fi customers, 359$ for 256 gigs! I am going to jump on it!
I got it for free, so no complaints at all.
Thick bezel is not really a problem. It's only the non-symmetrical chin make the bezel looks ugly.
@@syimang yeah it wouldn’t be as bad if it was fully symmetrical all the way around
Manifesting on Pixel 8a this December ❤
how would you rate the camera? I like the phone size but told the camera isn't that good as other models like 8 or 8 pro
Just picked one up for $250 from Google Fi!

@@YungStone glad to hear it’s working out, let us know how you feel after your first week!
Why do people care about this? Why aren't they putting the damn phone in a case like a smartie?
No access to the phone from the back. I used to be able to pick up my Motorola and, using my index finger, start operations by tapping the Motorola symbol. Can't do this with the Google 8a, which I find a somewhat extreme disadvantage. Can someone tell me a way around this? Is anything other than the flashlight available on the back??

Smooth sailing and pure Android experience and the 8a just looks and feels better in hand than the 8 ✅ I'm happy that Pixel get a little critics and people never gets to try them out, that means that pixel have to keep prices down a little, you get flagship experience for half the price ✅
A well presented video.
I am looking to buy a new Android phone, to replace my existing Nokia 7+.
As I like to trust the well known brands, I am really only considering the Pixel 8a or the Galaxy A55
I take pictures /videos with my phone, so the quality of the camera is important for me.
I think I prefer the Pixel, but have seen comments elsewhere saying trying to download images to the computer is sometimes a problem with this phone, which may be a big snag ... don’t get me started, I used my wife’s iPhone and getting pictures from that to a Windows PC is anything but easy
should be the same method as the Nokia??
This phone is the true successor to Pixel 5
I had it AUD 349 at launch deal, can not complain at this price
I want to buy this phone and keep It for like 7 years due to updates. I would like to know if the version of 128 GB Is enough (i save everything on Cloud but i don't know about sistem and updates)
Yes
How durable are they? Phones last a year at most for me. My current phone is barely over a year old and I already have to replace it.
Biggest seller for me is being able to update or downgrade to any amdroid version without being locked to newest
Listen, man. I'm using a Pixel 5, and it has smaller bezels than the Pixel 8a. What you're saying isn't convincing me.
I have such buyers remorse with the 8a. I wish I'd done more research before I got persuaded by t-mobile to get it. It's horrible and I really miss my old phone which was much easier to navigate.
@@DJ-ll4mq sorry to hear, what seems to be your biggest pain point? And what phone are you coming from?
@@JSLReview My last phone was an LG-M327. They don't make them anymore and after six years, it was starting to fail so I had to get something else.
The thing is, it may not have been that sophisticated but it was easier for me to use (I'm 65)
There was a "clear-all" button on it so whatever app I was in, I could quickly and easily exit if I needed to.
@@DJ-ll4mq You should go back to T. Mobile and cancel your order. Explain why and get a refund. It´s your right to tell them you are not satisfied as a customer.
Hey man, much prefer it when you judt talk and don't mess around with them annoying intros. Great video.

Loving my Pixel 8a got it fir £350 for the 256GB model a bargain at that price 😅
the bezel is what most people are making an issue out of? wow! i love my 8a.
Can anyone help me choose between an older Pixel 7 Pro and this Pixel 8a. Both available at the same price now. Which one is better? 😊
Please let mobile makers know that low budget compact phone is needed.
I need android phone that can be operated by one hand.
I am deciding to buy pixel 8a now is it worth now or should I buy another phone?
Its on sale now for prime day for $379 so I decided to pick one up.
I like bigger bezels. I hate accidentally touching the edges of the screen.
I think a lot of google ai feature (especially the photo magic editor) it is not because of the processor but because it is pixel 8a, it is not the processor that is doing the work, but the phone send it to the cloud, that's why when you turn of your internet it will not work, but correct me if I'm wrong
Do you think the bezel is like that because of cost? it doesn't cost them anything. they just create a worst product to justify the pricing of their flagships.
in petson the bezels dont look big to me... but i used the pixel 3a xl for 3 yrs. I dont see anything to whine about
