Indeed i have to slot fire and ice shield until i get those passives that regen health. The damage is pretty good i'm not sure it's better than a ice or lighting build i'm still experimenting. I'm using fire bolt, firewall, hydra and Familiar for damage than ice and flame shield so far this is working well. I'll continue to make adjustments until i hit 60 then finalize the build. Hopefully i'll be able to drop one of the shields so far just can't and survive .
I always play Sorcerer because I think other classes are boring. For S6, my advice: 1. Lv1 - Lv15 : Always get Arc Lash and Lightning bolt. Lightning bolt is very strong below Lv15, however above Lv15, it will start to get worse until become useless. Get Hydra and max it. 2. Lv15 - Lv30: Get a Fireball. Replace Arc Lash with Firebolt. Once you can Enchant, put Firebolt and later Fireball into enchantment. Once you get Fiery Surge, replace Lightning bolt to Incinerate and max it. You will almost never run out of Mana again. 3. Lv30 - Lv50: Max Endless Pyre and Warmth. Get Combustion once available. Legendary stuffs should start falling. Search for the aspect of 'Tenuous Destruction'. Once you find it, remove all Defensive skills and use them to max Incinerate, Firebolt, and Fireball. Once you can Temper, hammer that 'Increase Movement speed' to your boots and Amulet. Enchant the aspect of Tenuous Agility to boots too. I am fast enough that I never need any Defensive skills ever. 4. Lv50 - Lv60: Complete all aspects that enhance Fire and burning damage. If you like Incinerate, carry a staff and enchant 'Flamethower aspect' to it, it will basically double the damage. Enchant Tenuous Destruction aspect to Amulet, it will increase damage by 50%. Total combined, your Incinerate should do 3-9 times more than normal.
I believe i watched one of your firewall leveling builds before i made a character. At level fifteen i watched a build of yours with the fireball enchantment in it and switch from procing fireball to using fireball in the rotation instead of firewall. It seems to kill pretty fast except for bosses im spamming the familiars a ton more.
I got an aspect of constellation from the Den Caches, lowest roll or course haha. Have you tried Aspect of Starlight? That seems to top off my mana for all fire builds, esp if you have life on hit and Warmth. Pared with Temerity, you can be really tanky with unlimited mana. Plus you always trigger things that require a barrier.

Why in the world would I want to be leveling a build that is fun (if it actually is I wonder) and then HAVING to swap to something I don't want because nothing is viable but 1 or maybe 2 other builds.. Not interested anymore in S6 or the DLC but yeh, baffling to say the least.
As soon as gamers are given options, they'll min/max and find the absolute best spec. You even see it in singleplayer games. Doesn't matter what game it is, gamers like high numbers and if another spec is better, then why not play that one? If another character is better, then why aren't you playing that one? It's sad! Diablo 4 isn't really PvP focused, but it's multiplayer and you might do content with others... And we all know you don't want to be that noob playing with a bad build. How do you define viable? There are plenty of build that are viable. Not the best, probably even fra from the best... But if they're fun, why not play them. If you really have to play the best, then play the best and stop crying. If all builds did the same, people would still complain. Why all these options, when they're the same? It's just a reskin! L developer, can't even make different skills for the different elements...
The way these builds come about are because someone took the time to try making it work. So that's your challenge. Play off meta and see how far you can push it. If it sucks try something else! There's Alot of fun to be had in this game
The video was made before launch… his written guide is incorporating the updates on the live server…. He states that in his video… written = more up to date because it’s easier to change that remaking a whole video.

Yes, the dlc only gives you the new Class, campaign, and the coop raid activity. Season 6 content is all free.
Is not worth 40$ so you're right for not wanting to buy it, I'm in the same boat, playing sorc on season 6 and enjoying it a lot.
