Omg the bit where you loaded the film gave me so. much. nostalgia.
oooh I love those expired film pics
been loving how purposeful your content has felt lately & this takes the cake! love to see it :’)
wtf I was literally looking up film cameras when I got this notification! I'm not even kidding omg
it’s a sign 🔮
Film is so much more freeing than phone pictures! You can just really go for it because you haven't got unlimited chances to take the perfect photo. I also look back at my film photos much more than those I took on my phone.
Love this video, always great to hear someone nerding out about a passion of theirs.
This is exactly the kind of video I’ve been wanting and needed! Fascinating and refreshing. I would love more sit down chats about hobbies, or maybe topics that interest you - music, history, politics, etc
Love this video! It's so clear you're passionate about film and you offer such concise and clear advice!! Can't wait to see more of your film pictures on Instagram 💛
this was so, so helpful. I adore how intentional everything in this video was. love you Lucy!
Such a timely video for me! I have a few of my grandparents' old film cameras and I've been really interested in trying them out now that my part of the world is reopening again.
Thank you soooo much for this!!! Brilliant viewing 💛📸
This video maximises the concept of aesthetically pleasing♡
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I recently got given my mothers old camera and could not figure out how to change the film and also did not feel comfortable using it. This is exactly what I needed to start ♡
Your hair is just gorgeous 💗 love your videos, you’ve got such a lovely vibe
Ooooof yes I loved this, even though I'm not personally planning to try using film cameras any time soon. I loved it because I love your content and when you are making videos that you're obviously passionate about your personality SHINES and it's so lovely
Ooooo love it. I loved photography in school and loved developing my own photographs
This was terrifically informative and useful. I’ve been thinking about getting a film camera recently and I feel like I now have so much more knowledge to make that purchase. 👍
this is so useful, thanks! i love your approach on "capturing the feeling"! i recently bought a second hand camera for like 10 euros from some lady online, probably wasn't the best decision but oh well! she said it was last used in the 90s and now i have some black and white film in it so hopefully all goes well!
Thank you for uploading this!!! It reminded me to order film ready for a wedding in a couple of weeks 😅
Thank you for this guide!! I cant wait to get into film photography ☺️🌼
found a bunch of point and shoot film cameras going through all of my nan's old stuff so this was really helpful with figuring out where to start! x
This was so helpful!! Thank you 🥰
this is super helpful, thank you!
ugh you deserve stardom. great content lucy x
i started playing with point and shoots in 2015 and it’s such a special way to keep memories, then i took a darkroom photography class one semester and i’ve never enjoyed something as much, the physicality of film is so addictive
This video is so helpful! I have an olympus pen half-frame which I love- and makes the cost per shot lower too. The presets sound fab, so I'd certainly be thrilled if you released them :)
this is an INCREDIBLY helpful video thank you so much!
so so helpful!!
Loving this content, Lucy! Thanks for teaching me about a world I was totally unaware of, previously :)
This is actually a great guide! I've been shooting on film on an SLR camera for a while now, and I'm looking for a point and shoot that's easier to carry around
thank you! They’re so good, would recommend
I’m loving your hair cut 💕💕💕 xoxo
I also have an Olympus AF10 and i loovveee it. I've recently bought a Ricoh F-99 and I've nearly finished my first roll which I can't wait to get developed. My local independent film lab is Gulabi in Glasgow and they're amazing! Develop and scan is £8 and I receive my photos vis dropbox almost always the same day I drop my film! You can also post your film to them, and they have drop points around the city that get collected weekly.
literally just found my dad’s camera from the 90s - it’s a Pentax Espio 140 (??) and I’ve just ordered batteries & film so this vid came at the perfect time ahah x
This video is so helpful, thanks so much 😊 I am just waiting for my first roll of film to come back and I’m so excited! Did you ever release the lightroom presets?
Kodak M35 and M38 are new/modern point and shoot cameras if somebody doesn't want an old one which could be damaged.
whew i only started shooting film recently! i’m a total beginner and my first roll came back successfully 😭 even then i still get scared that i haven’t loaded the film correctly each time lolol
Such a great video, super helpful! Had to laugh at the "don't pay more than xx" though because in my hometown in Norway you have to pay around £40 to develop any film because they have to send it to Germany to develop hahah. I'm so glad I currently live in London where it's actually affordable
A couple more recommendations for London: The Photographers' Gallery in Soho - amazing exhibitions. I love their cafe and shop. they stock really unique film and books and inspiring prints. Aperture Printing for buying film, developing and processing (they do postal service too!). Sendean Cameras for all repairs, they are frankly the best in London. they also sell excellent quality secondhand analogue (and digital) cameras, and you can trade in or sell cameras even if they are broken!
Yes to the Lightroom downloads please! Thank you for this video! :)
!!! 💛💛💛
yess film is so expensive, here in Switzerland I pay like 50CHF to develop a 36roll of filim, which is about 40£. but I really appreciated this video, I have been excited for it since you mentioned it on your stories!
If you live close to the German border you should definitely cross it and get them developed here, it’s about 10€ to get them developed, scanned and printed at DM.
This was so so fab Lucy! I have a question.... sorry if you mentioned this, I don't think you did but I might have missed it.
I'm never sure when to use the flash and when not to. I tend to just turn my camera to no flash for most photos, but I'm not sure if that's always the best idea with film. If you're outdoors and it's daylight do you always turn flash off? And what about indoors, if it's daytime? thanks love xx
i've been shooting on film since i was little and this is my advice: so usually you would use your flash when there's not enough light to photograph a subject, wether it's outside or inside.
normally you would use the flash when photographing people and things close to you. it generally doesn't work for landscapes because a normal point and shoot flashlight has a range between 2 and 4 m, so anything beyond that will be dark. (that's why usually when you're photographing let's say a group of people everything around them will be pitch black, unless there is something at the same distance between the camera and them)
how bright your photos will turn out depends on the film's iso (because on point and shoots the aperture and time are set automatically), so the higher the iso the more sensitive to light the film is --> photos will be brighter.
in the daytime with a loto of light you can use the flash to get a high-contrast effect between your subject and the background, but it takes a bit of practice to get it to work *just right * and it depends of how much light from the sun there is and wether you're in direct sunlight or in the shade, the effect will be different. i encourage you to experiment with it since it seems to be a very popular effect lately (you can also do it with your phone in manual mode, the "sience" behind it is basically the same!)
i hope this helps!
if you wanna check out my photography i'm @dia__mante__ on insta :)
Thank you love! So for me, I put flash on at any point where I think there might be blurring or too little light. For me that’s in the evenings and outdoors at night, and indoors when it’s overcast or dark. It’s individual to the film and the camera though, you’ll definitely get a good gage of it as you get more acquainted with your camera. I hope this helps!
Super interesting)))))))))))🌺🌞
Maybe it’s an age thing as I’m nearly 33 but as I was watching and saw the camera, I was thinking this is what I had as a 90s kid! Strange to think of those born 10+ years after me learning about using this type of camera, makes me feel old 😂
Hi Lucy, in one of your old posts either on insta or youtube, I remember you recommending a company to get photos printed into a very slick looking photo album - but atm I can't find the post! Do you happen to remember which company this was? Thank you! ^_^
Hey Lucy, loved this video ! Just wondering do you ever travel with film through the airport, it seems it’s impossible to and it destroys it but do you have any experience with this ?
I’ve never had an issue with it - apparently it’s a myth and they use a different intensity of rays in the x ray machines these days. I hope that helps!
I had several rolls go through a total of five different airport scanners in Europe and it's not evident on the rolls at all. Maybe the only thing questionable is if it's in the camera (in my case a Nikon F2), but I can't tell if that was an issue with the roll of film. Rolls included Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Ektar 100, Lomography 800 (the questionable roll). In the US you can request handchecks from TSA and the film does not need to go through an airport scanner.
@@EvaSkewes thank you so much ! Flying to France tomorrow, so I am going to bring my film camera 🤞🏼
@@shaunafinnegan2966 Have fun! I was so nervous about the results, but if there was a sign of it you'd have to really be obsessive to tell.
Hey, I looked this up for myself a while back, and apparently most of the time a few x-rays won’t really cause any issues (I think it’s under 10 or so), but if it goes through one of the new CT type scanners they’ve recently brought into some airports, it’s likely to do a lot of damage to your film. I haven’t tested it myself as of yet though.
If this interests you don’t be shy to buy a SLR camera! They’re not much harder to use 💖
Can the video be translated into Arabic? please
I must admit, I don't understand the point of film photography. Being someone who lived through the era of film-only photography, the disappointment of 12/24 printed photos of blurry, garbage photos is just depressing. Seems a little environmentally unfriendly too, can't really speak to that though.
Why do I keep reading " beginner's guide to film pornography" 🤣🤣🤣
Hello lucy moon and how your day going and have you thought about live streaming on twitch and starting your own podcasts and starting your own vlog channel on youtube and starting your own tiktok account and starting your own discord account and starting your own patreon account or onlyfans account in the future
Maybe retitle this to "a beginners guide to point and shoot", like you said in the first 40 seconds
