I entirely live by this phrase. Not in the Spike way - living as though you're already dead and living on borrowed time - but instead accepting the bad and making the most of what I'm given.
His attitude during this episode shows a massive amount of trust in Doohan and Jet. I think that's why he so readily accepted whatever was going to happen
Spikes expressions are perfect. At first he's naturally nervous, then he just sinks into the fact that he could die and let's that take him over with a smile and a drag of his cigarette. After that, he lands and starts the boring part: Having survived a situation. Everyone else is pretty happy with it, but waiting for a pick up in the middle of the desert while listening to the radio, stuck with an old friend and a third wheel, this is *not* spikes type of situation. Because it's boring, and he's not necessarily "happy" to be alive.
@@JDog2656 If you've ever been in that situation then I'd think you'd get it. Takes a certain mindset to end up disappointed with surviving after accepting you may die. I came within mere hours of death once and I pretty much accepted it, never really feared dying. I had always hoped I'd die a painless death before the age of 18 and I nearly got my wish. Went to sleep in the ambulance comfortable with the idea that I might not wake up. And then I woke up in a hospital in St. Louis and spent the next 3 weeks in bed attached to an IV and not allowed to eat or drink anything for most of the time there, got it all through the IV. And then it was time to go back home and continue as if nothing ever happened. The consequence of surviving. It's like some sort of mental exhaustion to live after expecting to die. And for people who routinely get into that situation, like say in a war, I imagine it really starts to wear on you.
@@MintyLime703 I personally have never been in that situation, and I thank you for sharing that story.
