I misjudged you last year and I apologize. I've been waking up over the past few years and realized just how insane this world is. I am a mom of two young kids and am absolutely terrified. I am trying to prepare the best I can for my family but I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place and that makes me panic. Thank you for your words as I allow them to sink in.

Your being "absolutely terrified" cannot be
a positive for your children. I suggest you
visit a couple of specialists (child and adult) for guidance ---NOT FOR MEDICATIONS, the country is half brain
      dead due to zombie drugs.
Children are SMART and recognize the
verbal and physical tension of a parent.

one son, his wife and 2 year old moved back home (here) Friday. One thing after another snow balled and there was no choice. The other son, his wife and baby (4 weeks) were involved in a hit n run Sunday afternoon. My son's truck is totaled. The only dependable vehicle they had, and he works 45 min from his home. Yes, he had insurance but that only pays off his loan does not provide another car. So now we are in the wait to see how this will work out. Anyone willing to pray for my boys I would appreciate it! My sister and I made fun of her when she’d cut mold off of the cheese and give us the good part, etc. We and our kids are all about to understand why our parents did that crazy stuff.

My grandparents were born in 1902/1904. They got married at the beginning of the depression.
My Gram saved everything. She reused her tea bags, you didn't tear wrapping paper- you popped the tape and used it for something else. My mother had told me a ton of stories about how she was raised, it's amazing and I've learned so much.
The only thing in my Grams safe deposit box after she passed was a rubber band 🤗. She saved every rubber band that came off a newspaper.
We laughed and laughed over that bc that was so her. I still miss her. I wish I could pick her brain on this day and age and my Pop too.
The knowledge that I let get away from me makes me annoyed at my previous self. Lesson learned.

After working for 46 years we retired. We were exhausted and were ready to wind down a bit and focus on family and our elderly years but now, we are back in the work force again. I cannot tell you how hard this has been for our physical, financial and mental health. We had 2 years of rest and some enjoyment of our time together but Inflation has all but eliminated our financial cushion, it's a sadness I can't describe. I refuse to go into debt to get by so working again was our only option. Even now I am stunned at the condition of the country I love. I'm depending on a change in the next election to provide some semblance of normal again and I turn to God every day in hope for a better future, we need it so much.

He taught me what it meant to be SHREWD. I recall he’d rack up Pecans at the local golf course & put in paper sacks. When asked why so many sacks of pecans his reply; because otherwise they’ll rot & people can use them. He’d give them away. He’s also pick out aluminum cans in trash cans at the local golf course. When asked why, his reply; cuz there’s money in there. Humble & shrewd. He was Mayor of the town for two terms. He owned the local drugstore for nearly 25 years. Very very popular in his community. Didn’t effect him. He remained humble and shrewd. I am now 61 & trying teach my adult children. Crickets. They’re in for a massive shock. My only reply will be; WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?

I feel ya girl. I live in Powell, North Knoxville, and I have a small farm. But they just built 245 single family homes in my front door across the small road. It was an 83 acre farm that bit the dust. I used to see hay or corn in the fields. Now all I can see is a wall of the backs of homes that you can’t drive a truck between them. Stay strong girl. We all need to stick together here. Especially now.

Very good video again Patara. I truly hope people are listening. Just boiled and deboned 2 of those 4 turkeys I bought the other day for $6 a piece and putting them in my deep freezer. Made a crockpot full of vegetable soup tonight with green beans from my garden and tomatoes from my garden along with corn I had in the deep freezer and potatoes I canned. I share 3 servings with my neighbor and her boyfriend out of that, had some for dinner and 5 more containers going in to the deep freezer. Focus on your food supplies and use it don't just look at it, use it instead of buying fast food. The kids were already making Chili soup for themselves tonight when I went over there but will be using my soup for their lunches at work tomorrow. We are all tightening our belts here in my neighborhood ( kids meaning mid 20's with 4 boys). And yes I have enough money put back to last a year or more and still putting money back out of my check every month. And continuing to stock my pantries when I find a good sale like those turkeys at 50 cents a pound. And all the Glory goes to God I ask for his blessings and guidance every single day I never leave my house without praying to him for his blessings and protection and at night and often throughout the day. I can because my grandfather canned and I loved looking at his rows of cherries, peaches, plums, etc. He was born in 1884 and raised on a farm, learning many skills from his parents. He was an officer at the gas and light company during the depression so his family was not affected personally but he and his staff were very affected by the struggles their customers had. For example, if someone couldn't pay, they had coin jars in every office and the workers would take a nickel or dime from the jar to apply to a bill so power was not cut off. Their default rate when they closed the books on the last depression years in the late 40ies was below 2%. People told them they really tried to pay them in full because they were treated right and with dignity, unlike some other companies back then.
I learned a lot about the economy and economics from him and my father. My mother, not so much... Still love them all though they've all been gone for years.

On the surface it sounds like a splurge but the ability to pressure cook with it can help you save money by buying cheaper, tougher, less desirable cuts of meat & have them come out more tender, juicier & tastier than if you'd tossed them in a pan & toasted them or fried them.

No one believed me when I say I’m uneasy about what’s to come. I started canning this summer. What I can’t can I dehydrate and or freeze and repeat. I get told you don’t have to save everything. I said yes I do. Thank you for the talks.

Christmas shopping for my kiddos this past weekend, I made sure they had warm pajamas, heavy socks, underware, the necessity items. I know they aren't exciting gifts, but they are "prepping" gifts. Hard times are here and being prepared even in these items as gifts is a good thing. I always look forward to your wise advice Patara. I read many comments from our family here and learn so much! Praying for everyone here. Love you all.

Thanks Patara. I have blocked off an entire room to save on heat. I tried again to talk to my daughter about having a bit more of a pantry. She said no. I offered some home canned food she refused. She is not interested in anything that might happen. I keep on prepping just in case. Big hugs to you and yours. Keep on speaking truth. Prayers for all of us and our great Republic 🙏🙏🙏

Be sure you dont get built up moisture in that blocked off room. (If the windows are sweating, inside you can tell). It can make your drywall bubble up. My brother did that one year and it effected his drywall on the ceiling.

Same here in Boise Idado. I have never seen so many apartments going up in this area in my life. Our crime has gotten a lot worse in the last few years. Murders, robberies. Same with homeless its everywhere. 😢

They are throwing apartments up next to million dollar homes in the county I grew up in. Back then in the 60s it was middle class ranch style homes.

My Grandmother was always repurposing,, canning, planning, using coupons and so on...always busy. She got those habits during the Depression and never broke with them, telling me that she knew what it was to be hungry and never wanted to go there again. When I went hungry, I got to understand her ways a lot better. I'm lucky in that I had a model to follow. And folks out there are lucky to have you to nudge them into helping themselves. God bless.

When I was young, I grew up with crunchy grandparents and the environment was a big concern. We had a large Rosemary bush in a pot that was our Chrismas Tree. We had a few small ornaments and tinsel and everytime you hung something from it smelled amazing.

my niece, who works at Walmart here in Waynesville, she works in the garden shop where all the Christmas decor is, said that they were hardly selling any decorations. i dragged out my old tree ive had for ten years. my sister suggested we don't go all out for gifts this year and just buy little do dads to open at our gathering.

At our local dump transfer station we have a shed where people can leave used items they dont need. This year i brought home everything i could to clean and test before calling 5 families to determine if they need it....i provided 2 raffle baskets to the senior center with stuff from that shed. I cleaned toys and dishes and figurines and carpets and craft supplies to create little baskets of goodies for 8 children for christmas. Blankets and sheets, some brand new were washed and folded like new and given to parents to provide as christmas gifts or to use as needed. This was such a joy for me to do for those 8 kids even though i dont know then that well, often i just know of them or know the need. If you give to your local free to take shed, thank you, as i am sure that there is someone like me transferring the stuff to those who need it most.

This isnt related to this video but I know you made the video about the dollar store gifts people can give. I just finished my "baskets" for my family and I actually am giving some of the stuff I canned from my garden this year. I got some cute ribbon to tie on my jelly jars and pickles and I also got some tiny jars to give people some dried herbs because i grow rosemary, oregano, and sage in my backyard. And then i made some peppermint bark to add to it. So i was able to just give some nice homemade/homegrown gifts. So thats an idea for people who are maybe tight with money. just share some goodies from the garden. everyone loves it!

Patera, you are one smart cookie. You are blessed to have a good guy like James to back you up. I came from a lower class family so I have been frugal all my life. One thing I know, is war is coming. Verizon had a fourth, 12 hour cell phone and internet blackout on Sunday. The only way that got personal for me was Vietnam. As in all subsequent skirmishes, the civilian pop didn't suffer much, guns and butter were both borrowed for. The coming war civil war or international will bring sacrifices for all. I am on a limited budget, but continuing to think ahead for needs and shortages. I am toughening myself physically, mentally, spiritually, can do without anything but Jesus. Thank you.

I had the very strong impression a couple of years ago to start prepping for what’s coming. Been going strong from then on. Have a well prepared pantry and have made sure there is enough to help my children. We are using food that was cheap, compared to prices now. Trying now to put some of the money we’re are saving on food away. We are in our 70’s and we are in pretty good shape by listing to my promptings several years ago. Told all our kids absolutely do not buy use anything for Christmas, we don’t need anything anyway. We told the to use that money on preparing or paying on some medical bills they have. Cuttings way back on Christmas this year. Would have made homemade gifts but I’m going into my third year of long COVID and I struggle all the time just to keep up with the bare minimum.

At Christmas in College, each floor of the dorms was allowed to have a Christmas Tree. But it had to be out of the dorms when the semester was done. I went around and collected the already decorated Christmas Trees and dropped them off at the apartments of friends living off Campus. Merry Christmas!

God us our refuge and strength - I’ve been praying hard and you reminded me to read the word which I hadn’t done yet today. Opened to psalm 95 “oh come let us sing joy to the Lord”… it’s been awhile since I’ve done that - usually just worries going up… it is good to lift our hearts to the Lord and praise him with joy and thanksgiving ……

I know we have cut back on what we are spending this year on Christmas. The gifts that my husband and I bought for each other and our kids this year were useful gifts - clothes, kitchen supplies/appliances, etc.. There were some bowls that I really wanted so I asked for those but I am so excited to get them - they are useful but pretty. I put up a lot of pickles this summer and I just made some 4-Berry jam yesterday and both of those along with a small loaf of banana bread is what we are giving our friends and neighbors this year. I bought some 75 cent stockings at Dollar General and I am going to put everything in the stockings along with a cute little tag and a Christmas Card. I think homemade gifts like these are what most people really love to receive - I know that I do. Homemade gifts really show those that receive them that you cared enough to spend the time to make them : ) Merry Christmas everyone!
