Crucial tip about having a paper map, wherever you go. On my recent backpacking trip to the Marble mountains I came back to my car and my phone was completely drained because of the cold, and I didn't have a car charger or a paper map of California. I drove east to I-5 and stopped at a store to buy a map and car charger. Got the car charger but they didn't have a map of California. I ended up driving onto I-5 just guessing it was south to Shasta without being completely sure, because my phone wouldn't turn on yet. Not a big deal in that case but of course if you're out in the woods somewhere you could be really screwed if you're relying only on your phone. Plus there often isn't a cell phone connection in remote places anyway.
your videos inspired me to get out there a while backand start backpacking... lifes too short and theres adventures to be had. Thanks for sharing your adventures and tips.
Awesome find Jesse, you’re an inspiration, thank you for all you do and the amazing places you share 👍🏼 do you hike in other shoes and put on the voyagers only while on the water environment? Or wear them for the entire hike?
If I know I'll be in water I'll wear them for the entire hike, some exceptions to that are if I know I'll need more ankles support or better tread for deep mud, then I'll usually wear my boots and then switch off when I get to the water.
So beautiful - but so cold! Maybe come up north later and investigate the Rotorua area - you'll find HOT rivers and HOT waterfalls, due to it being a volcanic geothermal area. Check out 'The Squeeze' for example. Maybe some glowworm caves too... Oh and the Rere rockslide!
I sure will! Those are all on the list!! That was nowhere near as cold as some other recent adventures, lol. Check out my next video, should be up tomorrow 😉🤙
I live in the midwest, there are a couple of known waterfalls in my county but was hoping to find one on my own, only issue is it's pretty flat. Any advice?
Thought you might try to slide that waterfall! Absolutely filter the water just to be on the safe side but I'm always happy to drink from watercourses here as long as there are no farms or human habitation upstream.
