The Boom is definitely on another level. The clarity and synchronization is just top tier.

JSU tubs are unreal!!! Also, I use to be a huge SU fan, but since covid JSU changed something for the best. You can always guarantee quality sound, volume, great arrangements, dancers, and entertainment. 🙌🏾

It’s crazy that we actually wanted the warmup included. The Boom’s warmup alone set the tone.
I’m a SU FAN and don’t take this wrong because JSU IS ALWAYS A TOP BAND IN THE SWAC… BUT THIS MAY GO DOWN AS THE BEST YEAR THE BOOM AS EVER HAD…. BALANCE, POWER, & ARRANGEMENTS …. I been following this rivalry for at least 25 years of my life and this may be the BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN THE BOOM OTHER THAN 2010 gotta give them some props too… GREAT JOB STUDENTS & STAFF‼️

Yeah, Little has reached the point where it’s truly his Boom / era. These are all his kids and you can tell he has both the current and former Boom’s respect. With Travis and Kevan on the pen, this is going to be a scary next 5 to 10 years.

Awesome battle as always. Overall I just enjoyed listening to JSU 1000 times more than Southern - it was good music, power, balance, and all rest. Just fun to listen to
I was there , I’m a die hard su fan but Jsu came out the gate swinging su waited too late to start swinging back it really came down to the song selection

JSU is on another level this season. The musicality, song selection, power, and balance is unmatched. Their woodwinds were low-key the star of this show
U going to far, the song selection was the deciding factor…because u know DAMN well the musician shit is not better, it’s equal, and JSU never had more power than SU….cut the BS!

The BOOM sounds AMAZING!!!!!! Everything SU plays sounds SAME! At a certain point, you just fast-forward through whatever Southern is playing to get back to the Boom . . . it all sounds the same. The Boom took this one by a mile! 💙💙

Bones made a huge difference here. SU bones seem to struggle at times to support the upper brass and Jackson’s bones need to be tested for PEDs lol. All in all, JSU is firing on all cylinders. Arrangements, execution, balance, and power are on 10…Also SU got all them damn tubas but don’t sound like all them tubas when they play in the staff👀.

It’s been JSU all season…SU musicality has been missing that fight for about 3 or 4 years, Dolls included even though they had individual Dolls who knew how to give emotions through movement. They need to go back to the drawing board with the band leadership and find directors who can teach and write Jukebox music.

Dr. Taylor is great, but the others aren’t writing on the level of Mr. Haymer and I agree that they sound like a big All Star band instead of SU with all of the rap tunes.

Lost ZERO QUARTER, 5th quarter, & Battle of the bands which make 3 Ls on the year! 😂😂😅😅 - got to regroup! SU was skating a lot! Tubas showed up finally with the 4 rows, but the sections especially trumpets, skating🤦🏾♂️! 🗣️JSU was too but their clarity and arrangements sounded better especially in round 2-5! 😎
i'm a fan of both bands. SU usually on top but ima say it again, SBOTS band of the year.
Well last couple of years it’s been JSU on top but before that it’s been back & forth.
I can tell JSU really hurt SU with this one when I look at their body language when JSU was leaving. That mellophone player all the way on the right lost all sense of discipline, walked into the other section of the stands and wasnt even watching the director or playing with band at the end. A shameful display from SU, who I am a fan of and expect much more. The arrangements aren't hitting like they used to when Haymer and Simmons were there and the students aren't moving with that SU style they used to have. JSU won damn near every round and you can tell they controlled the pace of the battle. JSU with the W!!!!!

Ok, first shoutout to both bands for giving us something that only They can pull off. A literal duel. These two are the best. 2nd (clears throat) Jackson State University is on another level in 2023. Dr. Little, Kevan and Travis are insanely dangerous and precise with the Pen game! Not bad SU, butJSU got the W.

Been saying it and still saying it, SU is not SU-ing. Go apologize and beg Haymer to come save the band cause this current staff is not it. Book and arrangements mediocre at best. They don’t know how to control a battle anymore, song selection and placement is below average.

I could type forever about my viewpoints on this, cause it was jammed packed with correct tuning, great pitch and control of breathing, while sounding balanced and powerful. The notes were full from both bands and I could interpret them flawlessly. Man I can’t choose a winner it’s hard that tuba section at SU though on the second arrangement I believe is all smoke. Sheesh they was digging deep, and for jsu always the pen. It will and until further notice always be TRAVIS he’s him he’s that guy I’m telling y’all.

I am a SU fan over JSU (NSU #1). Nonetheless, JSU got this…not by a lot but they executed so well. SU thought 💭 what they had ready was enough. 😂 #DontUnderEstimate - I will say one thing, or again, but SU’s super 1st 🎺🥇 GOOD JOB! O_o

The truth is, when Haymer screwed up he messed the program up for years to come. When he was there, they had the dream team. Two excellent arrangers whose styles complimented each other and pushed the envelope.
The set up they have now doesnt work. But it was never supposed to. Had Haymer not screwed up, we would not be looking at these clearly inferior SU bands. The band should have continued rising from the 2017 year. But it is what it is at this point.
Ked has this band for 5 years now. Blaming Haymer ain’t it.

A few JSU TRUMPET players look like they were about to pass out on the 1st song from blowing so hard. It was Fire 🔥 though.
When I marched for SU the motto was “We don’t compete with other bands, we compete with older versions of ourselves” but who in their right mind can say that these SU arrangements can legitimately compete with any of those SU bands from the 80’s, 90’s, or 2000’s? 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Doctor Taylor this ain’t cutting it. Come on Juke I know you can do better than this. I’m in my 30’s and couldn’t tell you the names of 80% of the songs that were played. Which is why many people are saying all of these songs are sounding the same. Hell, when I crabbed one of the section leaders told us we were going to play every song that came on the radio and we damn sure did. But these songs aren’t doing it. Where are the ballads? The songs that the audience can sing along to? The songs that will get house and separate us from Jstank?
Do traditional SWAC recruit Woodwinds? Most have more TRUMPETS alone than Woodwinds.
