I gotta tell you 9 a month at a new dealership is pathetic. I was selling like 13 a month in tax season at a tiny used car lot most of them are sub-4k cars with an issue here or there so a lot of "I'll think about it" and lowballer customers. Some of the vets sell like 20 or 30, sometimes off-season. How hard can it be to sell a brand new car with a specified MSRP and warranty?
The tidbits, yeah I learned a few things there and they were helpful ,,, but if you read them as he is talking then you loose track of the humor. You should pause or slow down the voice when they are on the screen. Really great yarn though.
RIP Rabbit. 25 year used car salesman here and while Rob’s first day selling cars could never be topped I also had a great experience on my first day. I was green as they came. Just drove out to California from Ohio at 21 years of age. College wasn’t to my liking and I walked on a random used car lot looking to simply wash cars. Got hired as the only salesman at Cardiff Classics in Encinitas, CA as the current salesman was on to bigger and better ventures and liked I was from the midwest and was money hungry. First day this older gentleman walks on the lot wanting to look at this restored 1965 Corvette Convertible Big Block 4 speed with side pipes. It was Red over black priced at $75k. I showed him the car and got in his good graces. The owner came out to test drive him and afterwards he bought the car. The guy leaves and the owner comes to my office and asks me if I knew who that was. I was young and naive so I didn’t know. It was Joe Walsh (Eagles). Owner hands me a check for $3900, flips me a set of keys to a Land Rover (I didn’t have a car at that point) and says this is yours until you make enough money to buy yourself a car. My sister who just graduated college and was the golden child just started her new job in the same city after dropping me off in town so I could look for work was making $60k/year. I made $130k my first year selling cars and have been doing it since. You couldn’t pay me triple the money to leave this profession.
I watched this video six years ago. I'm back today because that was the first time I had heard Rob Pitts tell his story. This morning I heard that Rob died from cancer. I wanted to hear his voice, his story, his personality again. Watching it today made me smile even through the sadness of knowing he's gone.
I work at a new car dealership, as a service tech, not a salesman, but I’ve been there 5 years and I’ve never heard of a salesman selling 8 cars in a day. Not even close. Good job rabbit 👏
Thats cuz it doesnt happen, just like 90% of the shit on this channel.. You have any idea how fucking lomg the buying process would be for 6 brand new trucks? And yet he managed to solidify that deal in his first "hour and a half" at a dealership that is entirely new to him? He wouldnt even be on the sales floor in the first hour and a half as a self proclaimed inexperienced sales guy, let along be the only sales guy on the whole lot to approach the only big ticket customer they have.
Some Body i can’t vow for others. But this is very true actually. And apparently you haven’t worked in a dealership long or at all . They don’t hold your hand in straight commission car sales. Eat or be eaten. Hence the extreme high turnover in this field.
when i bought my 2015 toyota the salesman who sold me the car it was his 5th his name was all over the board he was very cool i would buy from him again
RIP Rabbit, i had to come back to this tale first after hearing of your passing. Been watching you for years and gutted to hear the news. Now if its ok with you, im going to open a bottle of something delicious, indulge in a few too many storys and see if you can teach me to craft a story as well.
This story made me a fan of him, his voice made me feel every emotion possible, Truly a one of a kind soul. Rip Rabbit, you changed the lives of many 🕊️
Oh so many memories from working in the car biz back in the day came pouring back while watching this! My most successful months were while I was pregnant. People just can't say no to a pregnant F&I "lady"! There weren't too many women in the business 27 years ago so customers trusted me more than my male counterparts but boy did that giant belly help out!
Grant King Yeah I knew that Ed worked there from previous videos. He can add as many information as he wants cause I really want to know more about this subject! :)
I told them they weren't cutting shit on my clothes ( shirt tail, we didnt wear ties) lol. My first car gig wasn't long after I had gotten custody of my son. I didn't have any more $ at time to spend on clothes.
RIP Rob. Whenever I run into a slow sales slump I fire up this video and it has never let me down. The best time to sell a car is immediately after you close another one. Sold 5 today and all were bangers. Godspeed
10% smarts, 90% luck, sometimes, thats all it takes. Oh,and right place, right time... and.......... AWwww, Shit Rob, you should have bought a lottery ticket that day!
He didn't want a black truck and only planned on buying 1, Rabbit used skills and experience he has gotten over the years to persuade someone that is set on not buying something to buy it lol. Then through him going to all the guys buildings and building a more personal relationship than any of the other employees could have because he went on his own route. In doing all this he managed to sell him many more cars in the process. Any of the other workers would have lost the sale or just sold 1 white truck. He got lucky for this to have happened on his first day but that's the only luck here. Him selling all the cars was skill.
@@xPikkupstix lol so true. i sell cars.. if u have the skillset/mindset and work hard.. you tend to be "luckier" than the guy who "i always get these bs customers with bad credit" or w/e the excuse is

I like cars but I never considered myself a "car guy" but ever since I've found this channel, I've watched probably 50 videos and this guy is tied for my favorite.
That is the salesman story of all salesman stories right there. Being in the business before myself I can say that this man is a natural hustler and smooth talking too. 8 car sales sounds about right haha
The information at the bottom was so funny to someone who used to work in that industry. Especially the dress code and how messing up the paperwork is the easiest way to make the manager mad!
I'm no salesperson but this was a great story. I always seem to enjoy these stories despite no real connection to the automotive industry, but it is damn hard not to enjoy someone who clearly loves the job they do and does it well.
The funny thing about Rob and Ed to me as salesmen is that if I had to picture what a slick Ford salesman that slings 8 cars in a day looked like I'd picture exactly Rob - same voice and everything - and if I had to picture what a Lambo salesman looked like I'd picture exactly Ed with the same mannerisms and diction.

Love this story... I remember the owner at a new car dealership sent me to a black tie car show... Dealers only... You better watch out Ed, this guy is going to give you a run for the best story teller.
Rob and Ed need to do a podcast.
bob ross I’ve always said that Ed should do a podcast.
I actually met Rob being interviewed for his radio show. We will do some more collaborating in the future for sure.
That voice is insane
I love how every video is better than the last.
This is the absolute best storytime/automotive channel on RUclips by far.
This guy my second favorite right behind ed! Love his stories!!!!

I would like hear more about this guy's career in selling stuff. I bet there are some doozies.
There was a previous video with his experiences at eBay. That was a great video if you haven't watched it yet

Rest in peace, Rob. Best story-teller in RUclips history.
Rest in peace, buddy. You made such a impact on my life I will remember our conversations. Thank you for everything.

Such a great story! Also the information on the bottom is soo awesome. You can really learn from these videos! :)
Ed runs the channel, and Ed used to be director of sales at Lamborghini ATL, so on the dealership side he's got quite a bit of info to add!

Kasper Leinonen Lots of VinWiki episodes have it now and it's such an awesome feature and a really great way to learn someting new. :)
I can't wait for the day that I go to buy an exotic car from Ed and use years of Vin Wiki video education against him.

I honestly don't know how many times I have watched this video, but man I love listening to his stories
black trucks look awesome when they're clean... yes, the problem is, washing them twice a day gets old fast... 😂
Especially consider Gary seem to be a hands on boss who visits his work sites a lot. Going to need to wash down the truck a bunch.
Not to mention every little surface scratch looks like crap.
Bro i own a black car it dirty all the time
