Starting Level 3, today. My kids (now, adults in their 30's) told me a favorite memory was when I played the piano every night as they were going to sleep. I played the first (calming) section of Für Elise. Almost 20 years ago, I developed MS. In a few years, I couldn't walk and playing the piano was as if I was starting back over at the age of 5. Fast forward, the 5th medication for my MS gets me out of my wheelchair, but I was still skittish about playing the piano. 2 weeks ago I decided to try it again. Mixed results, but not as bad as I thought. Your exercises have actually helped me to a tremendous degree! I came across your channel 5? days ago. I am playing songs I've never played before, hands together, after 1 try on each hand. Your exercises helped my dexterity more than my Occupational Therapy!! God has been so gracious to me! I am able to do what I enjoy, again! Sent a short 20 sec recording to my kids of Für Elise and they were estatic and said, "That brings back wonderful memories!" I thank my God for His strength, but I also thank you for taking the time to put these videos together and online. I can't tell you what this means for my life. Finding your site has been a Blessing. Thank you, sir, for your time and effort for us, (strangers at that!)

Combining chord progressions with arpeggio practice makes arpeggios much more fun! Practicing a single chord up and down, over and over, feels like such a grind. Thank you for this, I will use it every day.
The issue I have with being self-taught is there is nobody to ask when you have a follow-up question like one I just posted about whether to change the fingering if you play this same drill in Db. I'm presently also self-taught and trying to decide whether to get a teacher. The advantage is that you have somebody to ask questions and don't learn things the "wrong way" and have to un-learn and re-learn them later. The disadvantage is that it stresses me out to have a fixed appointment by which time I feel I should have learned something.
I really want to get into a music school in Europe, but my piano teacher just makes me play ordinary pieces. I never learnt scales, sighreading, arpeggios or anything. So I'm doing it myself, for my dream to get into one! Hopefully I can do it

Your video is labeled for beginners and as somewhat of a beginner to playing piano I have to pay extra attention to the small details in a video to learn something the proper way.. It would be awesome if you said you were playing an A minor chord and then said you was playing it in the first inversion or second inversion.. The reason I mention this is because when somebody is a beginner and you say you are playing a certain chord, the person watching the video trying to learn things that the root node of the cord will be the first note hit and that is not always the case with inversions.. So by stating that it is that particular chord but in one of its inversions would help the viewer learn a little easier plus it would also help them to learn about two things at the same time.. I had to stop the video to look at what notes your fingers were actually pushing down because at first it threw me off thinking that it was a certain cord but you was hitting a different note and then I realized it is just an inversion of that chord and that could have been me a little clearer if you would have just mentioned it.. Not too hard to figure out but for us newbies it would be worth mentioning.. Thanks in advance and thanks again for such an awesome lesson I did appreciate and learned from the video

My wife was a piano performance major in collage, but for various reasons, she sold her Baby Grand several years ago. After watching her perform for years, I recently decided to buy her a digital piano so she can play again. I also decided it was time for me to learn to play, and took it up about 2 weeks ago. As an adult beginner, Jazer Lee's RUclips videos have helped me tremendously and I am starting to actually see my fingers do what I tell them...well some of the time. I plan on continuing this and am excited to see how far I can get over the next year.

I've been catching some of you guys that show these techniques on pianos, not many on organs. I'm a former organ player - I say that because of family issues and now I only have a keyboard. I was never a good organist or played very well except by ear and I've learned more about how to play these instruments than all the teachers I've ever had and I must say, thank you so much for opening my ears and eyes. I hope to rekindle my love of playing watching you all and then taking on practice as I used to to just to learn how to play a song or two. I feel I learned all wrong earlier in life, I'm right at retirement age and have not played with any kind of passion in many years. I hope to do it again.....thank you, thank you, thank you!
20 years ago my mom signed me up for piano lessons. I didn't stick with it. Now that I have a good teacher, I realize just how incredibly bad my piano teacher was back then. I actually like practicing when I don't have to learn a bunch of stupid songs. With some finger exercises and a little knowledge of chord progressions playing piano is actually fun. Who would have guessed?
Well, I started today with Level I after a long, long time away from the piano, and it was much harder for me than I anticipated. I’d forgotten how hard it is to play notes together and how hard it is to play notes at the same level. So this turned out to be an excellent place for me to start from scratch. Thanks, Jazer!
Yes, for me too it is hard. I used to play the piano when I was young for a couple of years. Now I started from scratch again. Patience and perseverance is needed. Be encouraged !

Great video, as always! Looking forward to the cross-octave arpeggios video: there is this one passage in the piece that I'm currently learning where I need to go across 3 octaves with sixteenth notes, and it is the only thing that prevents me from performing the piece already. Thank you!

Thank you...nice set of exercises, though wish you had initially said you were playing 2nd inversions. Confused a beginner like me at first as I thought I was missing something.
A bit of understanding of music theory would go a long way. In particular you should have mentioned the C major chord is in root position, E minor chord is in 2nd inversion, A minor in first inversion, and F major in 2nd position. Too, you should have commented, emphasized when hands are playing the same note but different fingers -- Level 7. This would make a large improvement to the video. It's supposed to be an exercise for beginners, but I doubt beginners are going to play at the tempo you do. So why not indicate a tempo start, and a tempo goal? Little things can make a big difference!
Thank you for explaining the chords for me. Jazzer is a great guy and the exercise is awesome. But there is no way ”beginner” should be in the title. No beginner is going to know that he is playing inversions. How hard is it to say that they are inversions when he introduces the chords? Hi. This is such a great channel. I’m just 3 weeks into my journey of learning piano. I’m trying to follow along, but were the Em, Am, and F chords being inverted? Looks like it was possibly Em 2nd, Am 1st, and F 2nd. It was throwing me for a loop trying to figure out what was going on because Jazer’s hands were barely moving. Thanks!

Here's a tip for all your piano teachers - n00bs get incredibly confused when you show inverted chords and don't explain that you're inverting them. So when we/they see your pinky is on C they think thats a C chord, when you're actually doing a second inverted F. This is probably one of the top 3 biggest annoying/frustrating things teachers on RUclips do ALL THE TIME. If you want to reach a beginner, you have to teach to one. Inversions are WEIRD concepts for n00bs. Now, once you get them you'll never forget them, but for months I was incredibly frustrated with 99% of all RUclips piano videos. /end rant... PS, I love your videos still. You're one of my favs.

I now have the song from Adele in my ears (Someone like you). 😅 But there must be another level, as some pieces do use "broken arpeggios" (eg the Claire de Lune), and I do have problems in practicing and playing. 😐 All the other levels you showed are doable/playable for me ☺.

I think your arpeggios are not for beginners who only know the original 1 3 5. You are using inverse, that's why I didn't get it right away. Hope you could show something easier. Thank you.

For a bit I was feeling like I hit the ceiling on how much piano I could learn, wondering how others can get so good while I'm stuck with less than mediocre. My biggest struggle is with fast jumps to distant notes. With pieces I've been playing for years, I hold my breath heading into the measure where I know there's a 50/50 chance I'll land the note(s). Recent arpeggio practice has helped majorly. Leyenda and Moonlight Sonata mvt. 3 are great current examples. Thank you, kind sir!!! xo

To learn this start out very slow till your muscle memory kicks in then slowly build up your speed. Accuracy first, speed second.

I ran into this. Knew what an inversion was, but hadnt really practiced them and felt weird using them for the level 1 section

I agree with you. It was hard to figure out which note he was playing for me and he didn't mention the notes for us verbally.

A bit of understanding of music theory would go a long way. In particular you should have mentioned the C major chord is in root position, E minor chord is in 2nd inversion, A minor in first inversion, and F major in 2nd position. Too, you should have commented, emphasized when hands are playing the same note but different fingers -- Level 7. This would make a large improvement to the video. It's supposed to be an exercise for beginners, but I doubt beginners are going to play at the tempo you do. So why not indicate a tempo start, and a tempo goal? Little things can make a big difference!
Thank you for explaining the chords for me. Jazzer is a great guy and the exercise is awesome. But there is no way ”beginner” should be in the title. No beginner is going to know that he is playing inversions. How hard is it to say that they are inversions when he introduces the chords? I had to scroll down through all the comments to find yours to know what inversions they were.

Hi. This is such a great channel. I’m just 3 weeks into my journey of learning piano. I’m trying to follow along, but were the Em, Am, and F chords being inverted? Looks like it was possibly Em 2nd, Am 1st, and F 2nd. It was throwing me for a loop trying to figure out what was going on because Jazer’s hands were barely moving. Thanks!

Here's a tip for all your piano teachers - n00bs get incredibly confused when you show inverted chords and don't explain that you're inverting them. So when we/they see your pinky is on C they think thats a C chord, when you're actually doing a second inverted F. This is probably one of the top 3 biggest annoying/frustrating things teachers on RUclips do ALL THE TIME. If you want to reach a beginner, you have to teach to one. Inversions are WEIRD concepts for n00bs. Now, once you get them you'll never forget them, but for months I was incredibly frustrated with 99% of all RUclips piano videos. /end rant...
PS, I love your videos still. You're one of my favs.
This is why I advocate for personal piano tutors/teachers for mastering the basics.

I now have the song from Adele in my ears (Someone like you). 😅 But there must be another level, as some pieces do use "broken arpeggios" (eg the Claire de Lune), and I do have problems in practicing and playing. 😐 All the other levels you showed are doable/playable for me ☺.

I think your arpeggios are not for beginners who only know the original 1 3 5. You are using inverse, that's why I didn't get it right away. Hope you could show something easier. Thank you.

Man, this is excellent. I have just found you as I have just got my Grandfather's old Clavinova and want to learn. These exercises sound beautiful and that really helps with motivation :) Thank you.
My biggest struggle is with fast jumps to distant notes. With pieces I've been playing for years, I hold my breath heading into the measure where I know there's a 50/50 chance I'll land the note(s). Recent arpeggio practice has helped majorly. Leyenda and Moonlight Sonata mvt. 3 are great current examples. Thank you, kind sir!!! xo

I just got my first keyboard a couple of days ago after few weeks of watching reviews on different brands, models, features and also starting to watch videos on learning the piano for beginners and downloading resources on theory and chords and now with my brand new casiotone ct-s1 finally at home I immediatly started to play with it! I found your channel a great one, I have explored few of your videos, and this one is clearly the first one I am going to try at my piano.
