thank you sir i am in class nine and i have a powerpoint presentation competition at my school and your tutorial has helped alot,i hope i win the competition
You have a new student in me. I'm an educator and transitioning into ID. You did a great job explaining the steps. Slide Master no longer feels like a monster now.
Greetings from Fort Worth, Texas... This is such a great tutorial! I have zero PowerPoint experience, but need to do a major 50-slide presentation for work... your video is a life saver! Thank you :)
Thank you so much for creating this training. I work in a Support Services department for a law firm and do this type of work for a living, however, never been formally trained on PowerPoint. Every time I get a PP to work on I get anxious, having to ask my supervisor so many questions each and every time. This has been a life saver for me!! The next time I get a PP to work on, I am going to be so confident! Thank you again! You are a great trainer!!
Amazing. Very well explained and clear. This is the first time I see a video about Slide Master in such a way that is easy to follow and digest. Thanks man.
Thanks for saying! I took some advice from friends and colleagues and slowed down. 🐌 Hopefully, people watching this won't have to pause the tutorial so much. 😊
Hi Simon, your Master Slide tutorial is golden. The best content in YT and you have the patience and unselfishly sharing your expertise on the subject. I worked on this the whole day today and worked on it and was able to follow the tutorial all the way through. I have to do the lessons 3 times before I got it right and I'm very thankful for this lesson. Thank you very much. Cheers.
this is the best tutorial I have seen on youtube so far on any subject. Love it! thank you and keep doing it. the practice part is amazing and repetition is extremely useful. speed is optimum. you just hit gold, man
Excellent lesson! Thank you so much! Very clear and well paced! However, the "hover over" feature on the Master slide panel has been removed by Microsoft for those of us who use a Mac! Very frustrating!
Hello from Manila, Phil. Have been trying to understand about 10 videos re SM but yours is just a great tutorial! I wonder though why some slides don't seem to follow the format i made on the SM. I am working on a presentation with several sections. When do you use "Preserve" in the SM? Thank you.
Good question. Sometimes people create multiple slide masters with multiple layouts that you may not use. But you might want the option to use them on future presentations. Preserving the slide masters prevents PowerPoint from deleting the masters when saving.
I have watched many PP items on RUclips. I really enjoyed yours. I want a text footer on the right and slide numbers on the left. Do I use the Master or Content slides, I want to delete the middle box at the bottom (which actually says "footer" Can you guide me?
I'm glad you found this PowerPoint master slides tutorial helpful. If you want the slide numbers on the left and the text footer on the right then, "Yes", you would use the slide masters. Just remember to "Turn on Slide Numbers", (Insert - Slide Number - Check Slide Number box). You'll also need to do the same for the footers.
I have Screen Recorded my commenary and mouse pointer movements onto PP slides but there are long dead spaces at the end of the audio. I use the Stop button to end the recording so am confused as to why after conversion to video some slides hang on for 5 or more seconds after the commentary was stopped. From your instructions: Click once on the video so that white circular resize handles appear at the edges and on the corners. (I assume "video" is meant to be "slide" as clicking on the video had no effect.) From then on, adjusting the beginnings and endings worked fine. But, is there a way to eliminate a few seconds of silence mid-audio? Might it be possible to capture the last few seconds of a slide's audio and move it to superimpose it over where the silence is obtrusive?
Hi, can u help me know which slide is called cover layout in the slide master? Is it the master slide 1 or below that title slide layout? I want to add background picture on cover layout as my assignment task.
how come mine using transition, it goes back to the top of the same slide (not next one), it shows everything on the slide and as I click, it sort of shakes each item and then finally it fades and goes to the next slide?
Great video but there is something about PowerPoint Masters that drives me crazy. If I go into the MAIN Master slide and on the very top right of the upper frame I put in a graphical image to represent a logo for example, then I change the fill color of that frame (making sure that the image is IN THE FRONT and the Background Fill is IN THE BACK, when I try to use the Master for say a new Title and Content Slide, the logo is behind the frame and will not show unless I make the frame smaller, thus eliminating the background color from around the logo. I've spend a lot of time trying to figure this out over the years, but NO LUCK! Do you have a clue for me?
I added the shapes but it only shows on one type of layout ad the retangles at thetop dont show in my PowerPoint slides after closing master slide even when I saved the changes. Any advice did I miss something?
Make sure that you put the green and orange rectangles on the master slide, the one at the top. In the video around 12:43 timestamp Mark, I point to the master slide at the top. If you wanted the rectangles to appear on all slides draw them on that master slide, not on one of the layouts.
When I create a new power point presentation to design a Master Slide, they don't appear connected as it shows on your screen, also the "Title and Content: used from 2 to 7" its not connected like that on my new document, if I open yours they are connected but if I try to make a new one it says "Title and object design that none slide uses". Why is that? thank you
Hmmm seems strange - just check, that if you are using multiple slide masters, you are using the correct one. When you say that the slide masters aren't connected do you mean that when you update them they don't update your presentation? If that's the case it's most likely that you're updating a set of slide masters not being used by your presentation. Hope this helps. (Be sure to get the difference between slide masters and slider layouts that are based on a master, as mentioned in the tutorial.
what I'm saying is, it's supposed to go to the next slide after fade, but mine loops to the top of the same slide and as I click it sort of shakes each sentence or item of the slide and then fades and that's the only time it goes to the next slide.
Great -- very polished and engaging. I'd note two things, though -- 1) Would've been nice to include information on the use of multiple masters (different themes -- unless that's in a later tutorial) and 2) I would've mentioned when you were changing fonts that a best practice is to use theme fonts for heading and body styles -- wouldn't just change styles on the fly without understanding that these are also 'masters' of a sort. Thanks.

What theme do I use to change only my title slide. I want it different from all the other slides.
Change the title layout. That should change only that slide

Check the order of your animations in the slide make sure there isn’t another object like a stray text box hanging around

you can actually use your arrow keys to move objects. i like using the arrow keys better than the mouse
