    How would a solid steel shelter not already be EMP proof? Is it a matter of replacing the door gaskets with faraday gaskets, putting mesh in the ventilation ducts, or what?

    I could never afford or have the space for these bunkers however I would prefer if the passageway past the bathroom is around to the side of the bunker instead of through the centre. That way it's an enclosed bathroom area to stop condensation and smell travelling throughout the bunker. Plus it would give the bathroom some privacy.
    Another way is to have the bathroom located at the end of the bunker just like the luxury RV buses.

    Ron, I’m glad that you’re doing well after the cancer scare.
    My concerns are electricity and water. Do you really want a gas operated generator underground with you? You may want to find something else like batteries.
    Second, if you are stuck down there for several months you won’t have enough water to survive.
    I love your videos as I find them extremely informative.

    • @oooooollllllll
      @oooooollllllll Год назад +2

      Batteries store energy. they dont produce it.

    • @DuxGalt
      @DuxGalt Год назад +6

      Those generators are in a separate room, with separate air vent. Ron sells them with gas tight doors. There is not a better way to keep power production safe with you in the bunker. Also the biggest advantage of Atlas shelters is the 2ft of under storage. The shelters come with I think 2, 200gallon or 300 gallon tanks. But you can probably fit more if several months is your goal. Which not to criticize but a bunker does not need to be sealed for months on end, in any catastrophic event I could think of.
      For a nuclear war lets say. You would need to survive the initial blast, then for maximum safety you are looking at a week or two. But the radioactive fallout is decaying significantly over time. after 2 weeks or so it will be safe to go outside, with protective equipment so you avoid skin contact or inhaling it. You could start work on removing the ash/fallout and making your area safer. Collecting water that is irradiated and treating it to replenish your supplies.
      A bunker is a great tool, but its not going to save you. You have to know about the threats you face, how to deal with them, and then make a plan that fits you and your budget. Money will make things easier, but its knowledge that will keep you alive.

    That bunker is just a little bit smaller than my apartment. Small but roomy.
    As for the sand over the escape hatch, won't that make it difficult to open if the sand gets muddy? I personally would prefer an escape hatch identical to the entryway, except for a few inches of sand over the door.

    • @PTRRanger951
      @PTRRanger951 Год назад

      Way he explained it in another video was the door open into the hatch so the sand empties into all the way down. Even if it was wet, gravity will help, and you can dig it out and just let it fall. The hatch is physically impossible to open from the outside, even with sand not covering it. It’s more to hide the fact there is a hatch there.
      My thinking is you can store a short shovel at the top of the ladder and if it difficult to get through, you can just knock it away with the shovel until your out. But once you open the hatch everything should fall away. It’s strictly an escape, rescue hatch as once used you will have to do a bunch of cleaning. Unless you had to forethought to have a tarp at the bottom to collect everything when it falls. Then you just have to worry about taking it out little by little and mopping it up.

    ISO 9001, they make parts for Mercedes... and... your bunkers in Europe. And quite beautifully as well. Amazing for a bunker. Always room for “improvements” though. 🤓🤪 Really, it is very nice, mostly because of the head/lav. Needs four times the size fuel tank; the galley could be a little bit bigger; considering the number of births & size of the space, the dining/mess size is a bit small; there’s enough room for either doubling the seating or a larger couch; lastly (a bit impossible to “fix”... now), the head should be between the bunks and the master suite.
    I do really like it though. As I’ve said in past, I have some wickedly 🤯 designs. I’m just not able to build them for now, if ever.
