The movie has a good story line but the ending has unrealistic expectations which dose not apply to real everyday life because this type of solution doesn't fix all cases including Christian homes. So let's be realistic.
I think it's realistic when one is really converted and the flesh is crucified. The end is great and the expectation from born-again Christians. More grace.
I recommend you read the story of Jim Elliot and Corrie Ten Booth . Perfect stories in forgiveness. Jim Elliot is wonder. Him and his friends are killed by a tribe they went to preach too. Their wifes are left with babies but the do the unthinkable, they live among thee people and share with them the truth their husbands tried sharing with them. The death of Jim and his friends and the forgiveness the tribes people got from their wife’s resulted into a planting of a church . So yes the end is very realistic and they that have crucified the flesh and died to self have the fruits of the Holy Spirit which leads people like Deby , Corrie Ten Booth , Elisabeth Elliot to forgive when the old man would rather hold the grudge
