i can still remember way back in the late 60's when our railway was in a considerable good condition. but from the marcos regime was the beginning of it's downfall due to neglect. japan and other developed countries lend us soft loans to build roads and highway b'coz we also buy from them trucks and other road based mode of transportation." ginisa tayo sa sariling natin mantika". the present gov't should start thinking about our railway system, whether you like it or not it is our hope and future of efficient and economical mode of transportation. the gloria macapagal admin did something about it only b'coz she can squeeze money thru kickbacks or corruption such as the north-south railway system.
not only marcos makes Philippines miserable but the succeeding president like Aquino, Ramos and Erap are responsible for having big gaps between rich and poor
I'm guessing this is the time where the Philippine economy was just re-starting after decades of paying off debts incurred during the dictatorship regime. This was a recipe for disaster indeed, I'm so glad it improved.
@edzel palcotilo No it didn't. The Marcos regime focused on the LRT and left the PNR under developed. This is why it became completely trash as soon as the regime toppled and the blame went on to other administrations. PNR revival programs were only jumpstarted right around 2013.
@edzel palcotilo That's because post-war Philippines was assisted by the US with the construction of previously destroyed railways. Tracks were already built and trains were already acquired prior to the Marcos regime, that's why they were in "good condition". In fact, the PNR's decline also started DURING the regime as they prioritized highways rather than rail networks.
Yeah, could you imagine a train derailment in any of these areas? A whole neighborhood could be wiped out in less than 30 seconds................... and if there was a haz mat, or fuel tanker spill it could wipe out the entire town in one day or less.
This is a good video. You have positively showed the happy side of the people living in the slums, in spite of their poor surroundings. I have to say they have a friendly disposition.
actually, this is manila rail in the early 2000's... as far as i remember before we moved, the shanties were already removed or relocated. and 70's era trains run no more since they were replaced by the trains that resembles the trains in lrt....

Just goes to show that in the Philippines, trains don't use rails. People do. I was born in the Philippines and I know how difficult being a squatter living near rail tracks is (Thank God I wasn't a squatter myself). Everyday when I was little, I saw a couple of trolleys using the tracks. Probably a train or two.
It is so amazing nobody gets runover, or houses are destroyed by the trains, though it is inches away from the structures. In the US of A despite the warnings, the wood barrier, all the traffic stops, people still get killed. So perplexing. There should be orientation of the people on stopping the throwing of trash on the trains.
PNR was in good shape during Marcos Time, there's a lot of brand new rolling stock such as locomotive and railcars that were acquired during his administration (some of them are still in use up to this day) but when Aquino took over, it deteriorated.
Krid Luap I beg to disagree PNR's decline really started during the time of Ferdinand Marcos. The first line that went defunct and closed was the Dagupan-San Fernando, La Union (San Fernando-U) Line back in 1984.

i can still remember way back in the late 60's when our railway was in a considerable good condition. but from the marcos regime was the beginning of it's downfall due to neglect. japan and other developed countries lend us soft loans to build roads and highway b'coz we also buy from them trucks and other road based mode of transportation." ginisa tayo sa sariling natin mantika". the present gov't should start thinking about our railway system, whether you like it or not it is our hope and future of efficient and economical mode of transportation. the gloria macapagal admin did something about it only b'coz she can squeeze money thru kickbacks or corruption such as the north-south railway system.
I hate this railroad system 'cause it not safe. Also, the trains are running about 35-40 kph. In America, trains, especially Amtrak run about 90 mph.
Dominic Arceo How Bout The Fuck No Wrong Fucker
You are yellowtard obvious
not only marcos makes Philippines miserable but the succeeding president like Aquino, Ramos and Erap are responsible for having big gaps between rich and poor
6:21 that looked like the Japan railroad crossing
And I bet that there are less accidents there than here in Europe :)
Noel Kotela Because of the low speed :D
that's not right, the media just doesn't care in those countries because train accidents happen so much.
Henk oh
BRO WHY IS THE AUDIO ONLY IN THE LEFT EAR?!
Those tracks don't look none to safe, they need to be realigned badly
They have been.
@edzel palcotilo Only the routes for the LRT was planned, not the PNR. All remained the same until the GMA administration revived the whole thing.
The people live way to close for comfort. scary for children. and dirty too.
Yeah, could you imagine a train derailment in any of these areas?
A whole neighborhood could be wiped out in less than 30 seconds...................
and if there was a haz mat, or fuel tanker spill it could wipe out the entire town in one day or less.
Ugh yea so scary.
This is a good video. You have positively showed the happy side of the people living in the slums, in spite of their poor surroundings. I have to say they have a friendly disposition.
3:17 Is that a cat on that train?
+Xiaoke Ding (carveid4) no that's a bag
actually, this is manila rail in the early 2000's... as far as i remember before we moved, the shanties were already removed or relocated. and 70's era trains run no more since they were replaced by the trains that resembles the trains in lrt....
No wonder, Philippines intercity train average only 38kph or less
Philippines n Cambodia had the worst inter city train in S E.Asia
Brunei don't have, Laos short length to Thailand only. Singapore only intracity train n short length to Malaysia.
What intercity train? We dont have one. Just pure city train.
@@thelastcommander8765 It was supposed to be intercity but as of now, that is suspended.
@@anggethylaneoxy6780 it is an intercity beforw ww2. But after that, most of the lines are destroyed, they decided to make it as Bicol only line. Also, Bicol Express is down
Just goes to show that in the Philippines, trains don't use rails. People do. I was born in the Philippines and I know how difficult being a squatter living near rail tracks is (Thank God I wasn't a squatter myself). Everyday when I was little, I saw a couple of trolleys using the tracks. Probably a train or two.
lol that was smart use of rail roads by using troll carts
do those carts have wheels ?
No, they slide on grease impregnated hardwood skis.
there's nothing funny!
I thought they ran on small round steel wheels?
At least some of the ones I saw did.
ST4NC3_N4T10N your youtube usermane its so dumb
It is so amazing nobody gets runover, or houses are destroyed by the trains, though it is inches away from the structures. In the US of A despite the warnings, the wood barrier, all the traffic stops, people still get killed. So perplexing. There should be orientation of the people on stopping the throwing of trash on the trains.
Being poor is no excuse for living in a pile of shit with trash spread everywhere.... animals, not humans.
Humans are animals
James Carter and having a risk of getting hit by a train
James Carter say that to Marcos, not Duterte.
The first line that went defunct and closed was the Dagupan-San Fernando, La Union (San Fernando-U) Line back in 1984.
well said brother .i been to Philippine many many time i love it there nice and friendly people.god bless Filipino.. im from London
this is madness!
This is sparta!!!
This vid is from 1998 so
This is pnr!!
Check out the improvement now. Philippines had a huge glow up.
6:09 school bell sound
This video is like a bad dream. I have never seen people living in such squalor. Their houses are almost on the tracks. I wonder how many children are killed each week.
bullshit the catholic church runs that country. They don't believe in birth control so encourage people to have dozens of kids without a thought how to feed them. Catholicism = poverty
because the Americans had a base in Angeles City that is the reason why there is no birth control and so much poverty all over the Phillipines.hey, ridiculous. The catholic church runs the Phillipines and encourages women to have multiple children whether can afford to feed, clothe and school them or not. Men who wear skirts and don't marry are telling others how to live
I'm not American sir
I'm also not American but I can tell you that your history is waaay off about your own country, +Proud_NE_Asian.
Roland Prijoles . No one cares. Except the parents..Oh and the funeral parlours.
