I love how sudden Vex's death is. Because this is exactly what happened in the stream. One moment she was fine and the nest moment she was dead on the ground. And combining it with these flashbacks makes it even more tragic.
Yeah adding in the flashbacks (plus the knowledge of how it all ties into the rest of C1) from Kith & Kin really made it hit like an absolute freight train, I think.
I mean it's emotional but for someone like me, who hasn't seen all of campaign one but knows how it ends up, it's kind of hard to get to involved in scenes like this because I know she's coming back.
"Do not go far from me," is a quote from the campaign between Vax and Vex that has always made Critters emotional. I'm glad they worked it into the show in such a dramatic way that it will now make fans of the show emotional too.
Laura also bought Liam a birthday gift (I can’t remember exactly what but it was a piece of jewelry) that had, “Do not go far from me.” engraved on it. I just love how their friendship reflects Vax and Vex.
I read somewhere (twitter or youtube comment) about how at the theater where they were showing this in Cinemark theaters that after the ending of this one someone called out from the back of the theater "and now we just have to go home?!"
Man, even knowing what happens next, seeing Vex’s death - with the flashbacks to accompany - is beyond soul wrenching. And that still of the group standing around is a pure masterpiece. I went to school for visual design and concept art for animation and damn… it checks every box.
I just watched this scene in the campaign in a side by side comparison and the party is as shocked as the fans watching. Yeah, from what I've gathered that's basically what happened in the campaign. They're in a dungeon of a death goddess and the rogue is trying to look through it for traps and treasure and trying to emphasize how dangerous this place is( Vax's player was one of the more experienced players at the time I believe with only Percy's player and Matt having more experience) and they triggered a trap on the armor of the champion of the death goddess and bam. That happened, she was dealt over 50 points of necrotic damage. And I was not expecting it at all. The trap was specialized so that if you went below 0 HP you died instead of going unconscious. Matt does a great job describing the scene in the campaign but it's still heartbreaking.
I'm not sure if this was better or worse than what happened on stream. See, on stream they had just fought a massive battle and uncovered the sarcophagus. As they opened it, Laura/Vex said she was checking for traps. Unfortunately, this was lost amid a bunch of side talking and questions for Matt. The next thing that happened was Taliesin/Percy saying he was reaching in for the armor. Matt had Vex, Percy, and Trinket(who helped open the tomb) make dex saves. Percy made the save, but Vex and Trinket didn't. However, the damage took Vex to 0 hp and the spell in question caused instant death. No death saves, just snuffed out in an instant. It was something to see everyones' jovial attitudes just vanish.
Dang it, meant to edit my comment... Rethought it, decided letting viewers and reacters decide organically themselves what they might want to search in table moment origins, and accidentally deleted the whole flipping thread. Dang my job 😁 (I'm so spoiled tbh). We're allowed to watch stuff while we work , but when we get an alert, we have to drop whatever we were doing and ACTUALLY work, hahaha. Sorry for all responding comments and likes I just cost you dang it! But hey, gist of what I decided was all I needed to add was a thank you for your great job, with reactions, interviews, LoVM and otherwise. And ty for letting us see some of your red carpet personal highlights. Glad they chose you as one for early access (if I'm right... That's the impression I got). You deserve it!!
God I love watching people see this for the first time. Liam's acting in the end had me sobbing my eyes out. There's SO MUCH about this part of the campaign and the last minute of that episode that is a catalyst for the end game. And Vex is legit DEAD dead. She dead. I wont tell you anything about the future, but yeah.. she dead lol. Next Friday is gonna be AMAZING.
How’s your night going? Cool. Cool. Hmm? Mine? Oh, not too bad, you know. Just crying until my eyes melt out of my head and my soul rips its way out of my body at “Do not go far from me.” As one does.
Fun Fact: Kash played by Will Friedle (Eric from Boy Meets World, and the voice of Ron on Kim Possible among a bunch of others) and Zahra played by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn were actual guests on the stream and voiced by the same person that played them in the stream. It's awesome seeing them in the show =)
Sadly, the twins' relationship isn't uncommon for people in similar situations. It's a very codependent relationship, but highly understandable. But to answer your question, yes Vex is dead. The trap they triggered doesn't injure. It kills. It was just as traumatic in the show. On a humorous note, I do love the name of the champion. 🤣🤣
I mean I hate to burst ur bubbs, but Vex totally bites it here. They changed her near death scene from season one to Keke bc they thought it would lessen this scene.... But sadly yes, Vex'ahlia is dead here... Like dead dead.
You are totally right about the twins' relationship being just a tad bit codependent, I guess. They showed it in S1, but this time it's gunna have consequences... I'M SO JEALOUS that you just got to watch the entire season ALREADY and I'm sitting here having to wait 🥲
The way this ending just hangs in the air is so well done... I wonder how much of the "Vax/Vex are too close" comes from Game of Thrones ruining siblings for everyone else
I am very thankful I had all the screeners at this point so I jumped into episode 4 within minutes of this one. I can't imagine sitting on it for a week.
Knowing what was coming, I definitely missed some of the comedy aspect of Vax’s extreme caution. I love that with the flashbacks they built the dread in those of us who knew what was to come while helping first time viewer better understand the twin’s relationship.
goliath’s (grog’s race) don’t really grow hair and never facial hair so this belt makes grog probably the only goliath with a beard so that’s why he’s so excited
Oh gods, the next episode is gonna be one hell of a ride! I guess you've already seen it, so I hope you enjoyed it! I honestly can't wait a WEEK to get to see how this continues. (I mean. yeah. i've seen the campaign, I know the rough lines of what'll happen, but. still. I just wish i could watch the next episode now already)
@@MamasGeeky yeah, it's terrible, isn't it!😆 In the played campaigns with Critical Role, character deaths and resurrection magic is also very tense because Matt has homebrewed the resurrection systems a bit - in the official game rules, resurrection spells always work as long as the material and time frame requirements for the spell are met and the deceased's soul is "free and willing" to return to life, but in Critical Role in addition to that Matt has introduced certain mechanics bringing extra uncertainty to it, so there's always that bit of tension when someone dies, always that slight worry that this time will be the one when it fails
@elsalaiho1699 i think my favorite part of this episode is it sets up the narrative for the rest of the campaign. And theres something that feels like fate when the dice provide a narrative gift like that
Ah yes, this is what I meant... they did a great job making it hit even harder with the use of the flashbacks and the composition at the end. I knew what Sunken Tomb meant but boy I was still not prepared
There are heavy consequences from this episode that will last till the end of the series. A price must be paid for the cost of another. In due time you'll see the inevitable.
When Keyleth said 'I'm not good with water, yet, ' it's a nod to her personal journey. As she progresses further, she'll slowly cast other types of elemental spells, but for now, as she's of the air ashari, that's what she specialises in. I was like wait... wtf just happened

@@0saintclark0 I'm not crying because Vex died...I'm crying because this means other people die. This death changes so much about the campaign.

Yup. It was traumatic in 2016 and im retraumatized now 😂
Well, rule No. 1: Don't screw around in the tomb of a guy who was the death goddess' favourite human.
Feels like good advice !

Honestly theyre both amazing for different reasons. I think hearing Liam cry like that really twists the knife in tho
and just before Matt rolled for the damage, Laura said "It's a good night, you guys!"
Yes. Good night, Vex.
