  • The characters also aren't retired and haven't used any stat books at all.
So, this was a challenge I decided to undertake and it was a lot harder than I anticipated. It turns out that when you can't use subclasses, your options for damage dealers are very limited. As such, Gladiator was my only real option for an attacker. The Yggdroid may have been an alternative option, simply because of the fact that it can continue attacking the Abyssal God when he goes into defense mode thanks to HP Cannon. I brought in a Hoplite because their defensive skills were absolutely vital in order to survive the Abyssal God's attacks. Princess was also needed because of Attack Order, and most importantly, Knighthood. In normal circumstances, Knighthood is the key to winning a fair fight with the Abyssal God, simply because it lets you bypass most of his bullshit, such as him changing forms while you're in the middle of an attack. I brought a Monk simply because I needed a healer, and the Zodiac was to provide a 2nd form of defense against his elemental attacks.
So the thing about Abyssal God is that for the first quarter of the battle his AI is set and he'll never deviate from it except in one circumstance. However, knock him below 76% HP, and he starts randomizing. And he'll keep getting more erratic as you whittle him down. Once it gets down to 26%, it must be finished off quickly, as his AI becomes completely unpredictable. There is also another condition you must be aware of. If the fight lasts past 40 turns, the next time he changes forms from defense to attack will be the last one. However, he will then become enraged, throwing out far more powerful versions of his offensive attacks. (Aside from Demon Rage.) As a kicker, his AI completely randomizes, no matter how much HP he has left. On the plus side, that does mean no more Abyssal Offering. However, the fight must be finished very quickly at that point, as the chances of actually surviving that onslaught are slim.
The Abyssal God in all honesty, is a poorly designed boss. There are very few ways to take it down that don't involve outright cheesing it, and even then the fights are somewhat luck based. The nature of this fight means that teams that are focused on defense will be very unlikely to take down this adversary. The luck based factor is not only based on what attacks he uses, but on how long he stays in each form. You have very limited opportunities to attack, and the longer it stays in defense form, the more likely you are to run into that turn limit. With subclasses, that's not too much of an issue, as you'll be likely to have characters that can deal large amounts of damage in those circumstances. However, since the Gladiator is my only damage dealer, that's not the case for me. All I could do was launch Charged Freezing Blows at it and pray that it didn't switch back into defense form so soon. If you're going to say that I just got lucky, well it's true. Because that was the only way I could accomplish this feat. This challenge took several, and I mean several attempts. And nearly all of those attempts ended because of a tiny bit of bad luck. I nearly lost hope when the Abyssal God used Abyssal Offering at the very end, and I was very fortunate to last so long in the enraged phase as is. And at that point, I was pretty much panicking the whole way through, leading to some very stupid mistakes like using Antivolt and Volt Prophecy on the same turn. Still, I managed to get this done, and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else try to attempt this craziness.

using the knighthood on the dagger attack to force him to use wall instead of chaotic beckon or abyssal offering is brilliant. its beating the designers with their own skill system for making a psychic boss that can cheat and read your party's mind before they attack.

I bet the reason EO3 hasnt gotten a remake is because they didnt want to make a model of that thing in 3D for a 3ds. Then again considering the complex designs of some of the demons in SMT it could be possible.

hmmm... yup. When I fight this thing, everyone's gonna have a subclass, be lv99, have been retired and maybe had a few stat book dumps XD

Unbelievable! I thought it would be impossible to defeat Hidden Boss without any subclass or retirement!

How about beating it with a solo Farmer/Ninja, albeit grinded up to stat caps, Fetus has done that

This 60 fps? It looks so smooth. Maybe I've been away from EO3 too long, but it just immediately stands out to me.

Yes, the DS EO games all run at 60 FPS, while the 3DS games all run at 30 FPS.

gaiox in a JRPG Id say that demi fiend in smt is harder... but in terms of the difficulty of a main game.... eo has every game that I have ever played except maybe trails in the sky sc’s nightmare difficulty and even then its still denatable which one is harder while playing blind.

Demi Fiend is "easy", when you understand how to survive, it's just a matter of luck.
Eo is definitely more complicated, then obviously, if you read the artificial intelligence scheme with the patterns or directly copy the tactics found by someone else, it's another matter.

At turn 36 at 11:00, where he is in offense mode below 50% and using a random rotation, do you know he will cast dark lightning when you pick volt prophecy or is it just a guess?

    • @DrAraxxor
      @DrAraxxor  6 лет назад +15

It was a guess. I put up Volt protection because I viewed it as the least risky move I could make. Dark Lightning was by far Abyssal God's most deadly elemental attack to be hit by since the ailments it can inflict flat out disable your party. Head binds from Foul Glacier sting, but it only really hurts supports, which I only had 2 of. The attack debuff from Primitive Burn is basically nothing in comparison, because it can be blocked or dispelled with attack buffs.

This is funny, like, EO characters should be able to beat any SMT protag out of the fact that they are normal humans with mad skill and strong gears fighting a GOD when the Amala bois need to tame/become demons or use demonic power to live, like, they are Kazuya in Steroids
