Omg I love this episode of Tales From the Darkside (“Season of Belief”), so this is delightful. So happy to have come across it!
It is a clever little tale to imagine parents whispering to their children. I only hope the same fate doesn't await me, for having said the name so many times.
Glad they left out the "Grither Song" parody of "O Come All Ye Faithful". Somehow the "Season of Belief" episode was made more silly by it and the uncle, playing it up. Then again perhaps it's introduction REALLY aggravated the Grither even further by taking the story in vain.😮
This was one of my favorite episodes. My older sister hated it. I sure do miss her. She passed away a few years ago, but I still remember walking over to her and randomly saying it only for her to yell at me to shut up.
My kind regards to you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories.
I love the art in this one. Its fitting because its FREEZING where I am right now
I thought it might be the case for you. ;)
This is a new story to me too. As always, great story telling. I like the photos that go with it! Thanks.
There is a warmer story next time, to sweep away the chill.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles I live in Michigan, USA, and we are still getting snow today. 😄
THX for the scare *Huw & Crew* nice voices as usual & nice ending sound track along w/ the static ... always good
You are very welcome. The lettuce and bunch of spring onions that helped to make the sound effects probably don't agree!
@@TheBlackDogChronicles that’s what that was?! Wow. Yeah, some of the things I did to make audio sounds for my Tailypo retelling were oddly clever too. XD
@@TheBlackDogChronicles🧅🧅🧅
@@GDeNofa I am going to go and listen to that.
@@anavrinmorgus7603 Aw, thank you so much!
*grabs blanket and a pillow to hold close* OMG this is going to be good .. I love these stories ... thank you for telling them
It's great to have you here, Scratchy! :)
@@TheBlackDogChronicles oho! thats a good ending XD
One of my all time favorites 💜
That makes me happy to know.
Great narration, as always. When the little girl character said, "He flies with his ears?!“, I laughed so hard I missed the next 3 exchanges. I had to rewind. 😂😂
That's wonderful! I think I was channelling my inner child. Haha.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you for the stars!
I'm excited for this Huw. Thank you for your attention to detail and exceptional narration 💜
You are very welcome. I have enjoyed the comments you have written and am always glad to see you pop up in the comments.

That was wonderful! Thank you very much! 😊❤
You are very welcome! Come back for more! We have a whole book series being read, weekly. It began last week and you can listen to the first chapters, now.
That was brilliant.Your voice is perfect for reading these stories.
It is kind of you to say, thank you. I once gained a gig reading a series of children's stories. I couldn't help imagining the poor little things, lying in terror as this dark voice tells them about the adventures of seagulls and hedgehogs.
Your narrations are so good, just as wonderful as Encrypted Classic Horror. I miss Jasper's stories. Thank Huw, pun intended, for your exciting narrations!
Oh no! Is Jasper out of the game?
@@TheBlackDogChronicles Last time I commented on a post about when his next story would past, after a week of nothing, and he typed that it would be a while IF he posts another. I know the amount of work involved and just hope to hear him again.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles He has not posted since before Xmas ... I thought about sending an email but I don't want to bother him, although probably too late for that!🤔
@@TheBlackDogChronicles Sure seems that way 😥
@@TheBlackDogChronicles Jasper said he was pausing to decide what to do in the future. Anyone who likes him is sure to miss his excellent stories.
Great tales that are wonderfully read! Thank you
You are most welcome.
Very good..thanks
I am very glad you enjoyed it. It is great to hear what people think. The previous story was a bit of a miss, apparently, so I am content that this seems to be more on the level of what people enjoy.
Wow! I never heard of this tale before. Such great narration and visuals. And that outro was chillingly clever. Well done!
Many thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it. :D
@@TheBlackDogChronicles I did! And those sound effects were too good. Made me flinch a few times.
I've so been looking forward to this tonight! 😊💕
I hope it was worth the wait.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles Yes, it absolutely was worth the wait- as always! Thank you so much, Huw - I really appreciate your work! 💕
I remember this from Tales from the Darkside, I never knew it was a real story... I really enjoyed listening to this rendition
It is a story that I once heard told at a camp fire. Whilst my retelling in this version is slightly different, I am thankful for the essence of the original, which was first shown on the show that you mentioned. Or was it? Are both perhaps a thinly veiled version of the true, tragic tale?
;)
I know it appears as a short story in a collection called “One Winter in Eden” the short story is also called “Seasons of Belief” wonder how far back this goes
❤
Thank you for coming to listen to this fun little story.
Hi!
I have always loved (the Grither) he's Cook! Tałes From the Darkside, is brilliant' 😎 I came across your(RetoldvVerion) Of The Grither, I. was curious as to how you did īt' ❤️Brillant, Prófection, you retold it beautifully ly and your artist work of him, a Profect Drawing of him!❤️ You did him, Próud! And I, Thank Yóú for retelling his story with Honor' etc'❤️
I am very glad to hear that you, being a fan of the original, found my version acceptable. It was an enjoyable story to put together, but a bit gruesome to create the moment when the fate of the parents comes to be. I hope you get the chance to listen to some others on the channel. :)
I had a tech out to upgrade my internet so it should not be buffering now or at least not as much🤔
I hope it made a difference this time around.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles TY Huw it did not buffer at all this time
Spoilers to follow, scroll back up if you're not finished.
This is Hitchcock's bomb under the table. As soon as the premise is laid out, it's all but certain what's going to befall, and in the inevitability lies the horror of it; compounded by the delightfully creepy and less-than-subtle atmospheric sounds you add at choice moments. There's part of the lister that wishes to scream along with the children 'Finish the damned story you dithering cretin!' Or something to that effect. There's another part that wants to see what fate befalls the irksome narrators who incur the beast's displeasure.
This story leaves some interesting questions in its wake as well: Where did the parents first hear the story? Why does finishing it banish the monster? Will the children ever have a night's sleep not wracked by trauma-wrought nightmares for the rest of their unpleasant days? etc. It's a tale not half so simple as it initially appears.
Good to see you back with new tales. Everything's up to your usual high standard and, as ever, looking forward to the next one.
This was written in response to people asking about gruesome tales. I began thinking of how far would someone need to go to sate someone's need for the horrific. This led me to recall an episode of 'Tales of the Darkside' which had the original version of this story.
I frequently recall that episode of Takes From the Dark side also! It is one of my favorites.
For years I was convinced it was an episode of Monsters, until the Internet was invented and set me straight. I used to argue with my brother over which show it was ✌️✨
Wonderful narration and images Huw!
Thank you very much! From my warm little study I enjoyed creating pictures of deep cold and haunted shadows. >=)
The grither
Oh no! What was that noise, just outside your window?!
This is an old tales from the darkside episode
Yes, you are quite right. I re-adapted it for here.
