- I walk the George Washington Bridge, which connects New York to New Jersey. This walk was recorded at sunset, and the views of New York and New Jersey were stunning.

"The George Washington Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, connecting the New York City borough of Manhattan with the New Jersey borough of Fort Lee. The bridge is named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. The George Washington Bridge is the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge, carrying over 103 million vehicles in 2016. It is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a bi-state government agency that operates infrastructure in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The George Washington Bridge is also informally known as the GW Bridge, the GWB, the GW, or the George, and was known as the Fort Lee Bridge or Hudson River Bridge during construction.
The George Washington Bridge measures 4,760 feet (1,450 m) long and has a main span of 3,500 feet (1,100 m). It had the longest main bridge span in the world at the time of its opening and held that distinction until the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937. "

Wonder how much to cross back then? When I was a kid we were always on it. We lived in NJ & our relatives were up in Yonkers NY. Seems like it was $4 for a while.

I use to walk The George Washington Bridge way back in April of 1989 and I walk across the bridge several more times as well.
I like how well protected the pedestrians look on this bridge and anti siucide fence . This reminds me of a scene from Law and Order SVU

Hi Kenneth, i walked this bridge with my wife ( NJ to NYC ) before a AC/DC concert in the MetLife stadium in 2015.the bus to MetLife left from Port Authority .what a crazy day!!

Remember playing Metal Gear Solid 2 as a child and the intro being on the bridge. Always figured how cool it’d be to walk across it, living in Washington Heights it’s only like a mile away from me, and this video is inspiring me to do it! I did this walk once, and I must tell you, it was pretty scary to say the least. I was born and raised in the neighborhood where that Bridge is and saw it every day coming home from School. I'm glad that they have those chain link fences there now. I also did bike across the Bridge once and it's interesting to say the least.

My sister and I (from Midiwest) was coming down the Merrit Parkway on our way to NJ and accidentally missed our turnoff and ended up on the GW Bridge. It scared me to death because I knew I would have to go into Manhattan in order to get back on track toi get to NJ. Well, being from Midwest, the thought of driving in NEW YORK CITY was a scary event - and I believed that the base of it was a scary place. I figured how to get back up on the brridge - not easily I might say - and now gives me good stories to tell, lol.

Great video footage. As a trucker I cross this bridge quite often and the cost is $102.00 to cross this bridge. It's free as long as you are a pedestrian. Not a very well lit bridge to be getting all that money.

GWB looks beautiful from a distance but when you walk across you'll realize quickly that it's just a rusty tin can that never stops shaking. That's why you see very few people attempting to walk across.

Reminds me as kid we would cross border into Mexican as kid bridge felt that big and water do far down. I'm sure it's nothing like I remember. We would get 2 dollar hair cuts. Year round they had fireworks.

When I was a kid my parents always told me only the upper deck of the GW bridge was the GW, the bottom or lower deck was the Martha Washington. I didn’t understand why 😀. Is this still what they call it ??😜😜

1:20 I guess the no pictures signs must have been removed. I was stopped by Port Authority police back in 2005 for taking pictures. They pulled a gun (which is crazy!), patted me down, looked through my pictures, and ran my ID. I remember I took a bus back to Washington Heights because I was too scared to walk the bridge again.
There was no net back then so it was definitely easier to take pictures though.
I love the dramatic ending to this walk made entirely without narration upon leaving the bridge. Spoiler alert ...it's a real cliff hanger.

Very interesting now it’s time to get home for dinner. I would be rather concerned that by the time the sun had set the pedestrian sidewalk was quite dark until you exited the bridge on the N.Y. Side. In addition by cyclist didnt seem to care how close to you they got.
