The quiet, leafy streets and 19th-century apartment blocks and villas make this one of the most attractive parts of the city and a favored residential location for many of Cairo's European expatriates. Many non-Egyptians live in Zamalek.
It is also the district of many fine restaurants, bars and cafes, including traditional open-air ahwas and European cappuccino bars.
I'm moving to Zamalek from Argentina in six months. This is the first video I find that actually offers a clear sight of the Neighborhood. Thank you very much. Keep it up!

Glad you enjoyed Egypt. Apart from the rude lady in Zamalek, Egypt is pleasent. Since the revolution people are a bit scared of tourists filming. They think they are all "spies" 😂
You asked about Charles Baehler, he was a Swiss Hotelier who lived in Egypt. He owned and managed many important hotels like Cairo Marriott, Shepheard, Mena House and the Metropolitan in Cairo. He built many apartment buildings including the Baehler mansions in Zamalek and the Baehler buildings in Downtown, there is a passageway in Downtown named after him.
He also had a share and managed Egyptian Hotels Ltd, he built the Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor. Samir Raafat an Egyptian architect has written a lot about him and his influence on the architecture in Cairo in the early 1900's.

You are so lucky you didn't get stopped while filming the old wooden villa near seoudi market, i tried filming there but the security stopped me. It's hard to vlog in Zamalek near the embassies and diplomatic buildings so you are so lucky you got some good footage.

I'm sorry about the situation with that rude lady. She told the man not to talk with you because she thinks that you might be a spy who is taking videos of egypt to show it's bad side and worsen it's touristic reputation. Unfortunately some egyptians think in that way when they see a foreigner taking a video in streets, the media made them believe in these conspiracies. However I'm sure that these are very rare cases but most of egyptians are very friendly with foreigners :)

You speak the Egyptian dialect of Arabic just like a local. I think that rude lady treated you the way she did because she thought you were an Israeli tourist. Don’t forget, diplomacy not withstanding, Egypt is the most antisemitic & anti Zionist country on earth. Things are slowly changing but old hatred’s die hard I am sorry to say.
