From a christian point of view, it could also serve as a warning to true believers. Frollo calls himself pious, but he is a sinner. He is not unaware of what he is feeling or thinking. The entire song is him realizing what is happening in him, "reasoning" all the way, being able to stop if he was truly a saint, but no, at every turn, he blame others for his problems, even God himself. He even had the chance to leave it be when a guard tell him she is gone, surrounded by a very odd blue light in comparison with the reds and blacks of the rest of the song (last attempt from heaven to reach him, literally or just metaphorically?). But he refuses violently to even let the idea past. It may be lust what ignited him, but truly it is pride and rage what dooms him.
Oh my goodness. This is THE best rendition of the song I’ve seen on RUclips by far... and I’ve seen a LOT. Everything is so spot on - the tone, the mood, the passion, the orchestral and choral backing. It’s all perfect! I’d pay good money for some sort of studio recording of this lol. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud.
Commenting again nearly a year later because I can't explain the love I have for this video, and all the videos from what I'm assuming is one performance. The level and quality of the orchestra is nothing short of perfection, I can't get over it still. In addition, the vocal performances...just...wow. This is perfection 👍👍👍
People are really here acting like this is an actual mass- this is probably a Disney themed concert that the church is hosting- or maybe this is a church that was converted into a place to hold concerts which isn’t too uncommon. Either way, I think that this is the perfect place to preform this song given its meaning and how people will often turn to their religion to excuse their atrocities.
This piece is truly a work of art. I only just notice the choir in the back singing "Kyrie Eleison" meaning God Have Mercy at about 3:00 which kind of show what the character is thinking. I especially love how you can hear the real Pipe Organ cutting through at the back and you can hear the way the pipes "sort of run out of air for a millisecond" and start out of tune and then quickly get in tune when played. Fantastic Video! Best Version!
Actually, a church is a perfect stage to perform a song about lusting, abuse of power and oppressed sexual desires, given the many scandals of the past and present.

@@albertocruzado2899 That was kind of what I was coming at. Not only but hey, thanks for the deep analysis. I'm a religions and history teacher and I love this song so much. It's full of religious context and backed by a history plagued by "sinful" "pious" men.
I think the answer is more prosaic. Looking to book an auditorium in a city where there are 50 chapels, 20 churches and four commercial venues is, if only mathematically, likely to end up with a place of worship. Churches are very often used for secular concerts in the UK. This was actually a college chapel.
I know this comments old but this song truly is a wonderful facet to show people sin without they themselves having to learn themselves of their mistakes and recognize it for what it is
@@tyraelpl the fact is that both arranger/conductor and singer are very highly educated and qualified musicians. Simon is one of the most sought after orchestrators in London, Mark is an international opera singer whose university dissertation was on the music of Disney. They both knew to the nth degree what the song is about. Those who criticise it for being in a “church” are simply not sufficiently informed. This (entirely secular) concert was organised in a college public room which is used for a variety of purposes including religion but also concerts. This is very common in the UK, where the church is often the largest venue in a community. So these various criticisms are ill-informed and really just self serving “look at me, how clever I think I am” rather than engaging with what is actually clever and artistic, the arrangement and performance.
@@TimothyNathanPPL-IRThat's actually too bad, because I'm pretty sure this would make for a great sermon. Just make sure the kids are separated in the back or playroom (they still do that? I wouldn't know). Thanks for uploading this amazing performance
lol. Song of sexual repression sang in a church.

the most appropriate song to sing in church
Lol
Holy cow! What a performance by the choir, lead singer and the orchestra. I wish I could have been there in person to hear it!
This gave me goosebumps... The orchestra, tenor and choir nailed everything...
Interesting that they are singing this in a church.
It actually makes sense lmao, coming from a Christian background myself.
It's set in a church... why not? Lol

Ah that's makes more sense. I was confused like some others why it would be sung in a church lol
Anyone else see Cruella Deville in the backround?
Yep
lol wtf xD
masterodst1 maybe theyre dressing up as villains?

I've had a little trouble at the neighborhood's church.

Why doesn’t this have more views? They NAILED this!!
When a song from an animated film with subject matter like this is being sung in a church, with a choir and an orchestra, you know it’s great.
This the perfect song for a church honestly--it brings to light the issues in the institution today and is an awesome song regardless.
If he records an album I’m buying it. Best version on RUclips
I can’t see Disney being too keen 😂
Just download from RUclips…duh
Phenomenal bravo! That last note was no easy feat!! The singer did amazingly and the orchestra was just…wow. 🎉❤
It's beautiful that in the church people sings songs from cartoons :)
Its litterally a song about sexual desires and wrathful hatred for not getting what he wants...
Which in all honesty makes it even more appropriate to sing in a church!
