I saw Nicholas say in an interview as a fun fact: George’s pearl earring gets bigger as his power grows…that will be fun to look out for on a rewatch ☺️

My one complaint with the finale is that this episode should have ended with James's death or maybe Charles's coronation (showing what comes next) and then there should have been one episode more for the years of George under Charles, how he leads commands into war, the Siege of Rochelle, we see Fenton fight with him and then in the end the assassination, instead of cramming this into an epilogue.

    • @burntcoppery
      @burntcoppery 2 месяца назад +6

this, plus you could've shown George getting used to having power in Ireland and as lord of the admiralty.
The sheer amount of battles George fucked up (including being impeached TWICE) should've had more than a 2 minute epilogue.

I suspect that the network order was only seven episodes, though. Had the network ordered ten or thirteen episodes, the show could have gotten in to much more historical detail about what went on between 1623 and 1628 with England turning to France for alliance against Spain and the whole mess with the Hughenots and France's ultimate alliance with Spain, and all of it kind of petering out with Charles married to Henrietta Maria of France (in 1625), whom Charles actually met on the way to the negotiations in Spain. You're right, there is a lot that happened to George between 1623 and 1628. There was a lot that happened to George in general that this particular historical drama glossed over.

Finally finished reading the. BBC article by Rosalind Jana about the series and I'm gagged by this bit:
"In the intervening centuries the Villiers family have remained woven through British royal and political life - from the mistress of Charles II to a Vicereine of India to a current sitting Tory MP. In fact, according to Gerald Malcolm Thomson, George's father can now be traced as a common ancestor for 16 different British Prime Ministers, including, most recently, David Cameron. Once cemented, aristocratic power rarely wanes. The higher you climb, the show implies, the further there is to fall, but it may make the landing softer for future generations."
    😳😳😳😳

Great reaction. There are a couple of accounts I've heard: King James died of dysentery and George was in another country and cried with the news; then there was James died of dysentery and George was by his side. Notably, in Red, White & Royal Blue they address the relationship between James and George (the king signing his letters to George, calling him his child and wife), and how George was also so loved, like a brother and mentor, by King Charles that he gifted George a massive statue which is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, where Alex and Henry share their dance together.

Even after George killed James who loved him for who he is and George somewhat loved him back, launched wars, manipulated so many people to gain power, I still stand with George Villiers. Beauty privilege is indeed real 😅

The book they based the series on theorises that George did assassinate James. But with so much history, you can never really know what happened for sure 🤷🏻
I want more queer period dramas either way, I'm manifesting bi Benedict in Bridgerton so hard 😂

Omg this! I hate using the term queerbaiting in vain, but with Benedict and that gay guy on first season where they show Ben being shocked and -surprised- and then bam this storyline was kinda dropped ? Like wth was that 😆

It's also a THEORY that George was involved in James' death. Started by a lot of his enemies. This series happens to be based on a book that takes that theory seriously.

YES!!! I just finished watching it yesterday and it really is a Good show. 😍 But then again I love most of what Neil Gaiman does! And even though I've seen alot of people asking for our guys to react to "Good Omens" (which is a good show), it has FAR less LGBTQ+ representation than "Dead Boy Detectives!"... So let us Hope that they see your comment and make the Right Choice.

3:02: Bacon had congenital syphilis since his birth, via his father, after his trial the disease increased, that thing he has on his nose is a medical device to "kept" his nose, without it the nose will fail. bacon spent all his life afraid to become mad, for this reason he was so "hungry for life": books, money, positions, boys, he wanted all in few time
4:53, George had a flirt with Olivares's wife... Olivares was too kind to him knowing this but he "debunked" george for what he really is: an hot body with 0 braincells
12:04, the all plan was: we wint against Spain, Spain is forced to talk with the Emperor to have Lizzie&Fritz restored on the Palatinate, we won. James called this plan a bluff, he liked his daughter Elizabeth but he tought she and her husband did a wrong thing accepting the Bohemian crown by the people so... the young must learn by their mistakes. Lizzie&Fritz's son was restored in the Palatinate 30 years later but the crown of Bohemia was lost forever for them
13:18, James could accepted a sentimental betrayl but not a political one, George was too stupid to not undestand that the king wanted peace not 'cause of his age but 'cause he knew England cannt win a war, or even start one
14:21, in the 1625 James and George were... in difficoult times and it's rumored that James was tired of George but... all this stuff is fiction
16:32: IRL James died by dysentery and mini strokes, George was by his side and maybe, maybe, maybe it was euthanasia, maybe.
17:35, George's mind: I have a thing to do in France, the queen. yes, I know she yelled, she cried and they said it was attempted rape but... come one, no one never resist me, she liked it rough, she never said no, her friend said she was in love with me, it's not my fault if she's a frigid statue.
The George's era is not finished yet, in autmun there will be the French series about queen Anne of Austri'as best friend, whose husband was James's cousin and George is an important secondary charcter, this time played by Freddie Dennis by Bridgerton

There is no real evidence that George killed James. It's a nice invention for this story but it's not based on any reality. Absolutely George was in it for what he could get, but all the evidence is that there was genuine affection between the two which carried over into George's relationship with Charles. Charles is supposed to have broken down in tears when he heard George was dead.

I really enjoyed this miniseries; everything about it was a truly a masterpiece!!! My heart definitely broke for both James and George as their love died, and how despite how Mary practically used him for her own benefits, she still had truly loved him. Losing a lover hurts, but losing close family hurts worse. I really can’t wait to see Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You!!!

I really loved this depiction because truly, all these people kinda sucked! They all screwed over others for money and power, never quit while they were ahead. James was a huge misogynist (even in historical context) and also made life terribly difficult for future gays by being violently anti-sodomy. Still, the positioning of sex as a tool of power and control for the elite is fascinating and important to these conversations because you can still see this facets of this behavior occuring to this day, where "sexuality" is less of an identity and more of a tool for control.

The speculation that George killed James may have served the drama more than James just dying, particularly considering that George and Charles were back and forth between England and Spain tyring to unsuccessfully negotiate the Spanish marriage, With James deqad in 1625 and Charles married to Hentriatta Meria in that same year…

I loved that Mary won. I know that ppl argue that she "groomed" George and "turned him bad", but uhh??? George was a complete idiot too full of himself, following other men who would tell him 'good boy' instead of following his mom's lead because mother knows best! Every time we saw him being good to the king it ended up being manipulative lol bad decision after bad decision, he deserved to die like that.
Loved the show btw, beautiful to look at, gorgeous people and gorgeous costumes. Nicholas ate that up!!
Also loved your reactions, y'all are so funny in every video. Your comments crack me up ❤

George seeks his mother's affection by doing what she wants in the beginning even then he didn't get her love. Mary instead gave it freely to Sandy causing George to envy her. History tells that the real George is not good at politics so his naivety in the show is quite accurate. In Mary's absence, he was easily manipulated at court so in some ways Mary is responsible for what George become at the end.
Mary won at the end but at what cost?? I think Julianne Moore expression at the end also almost like she felt empty, so maybe nobody wins💔
