I made 2 bad cuts (sorry, 8 hour recording, missclick can happen) where I accidentally removed footage that should've been left in: #1: 19:25 I deleted the entire rolling where we got the items, which I guess is not that bad since you still see the items I found afterwards, just made it weird to talk about it on the wave #2: 31:19 I was talking about how explosion damage doesn't go up from picking up fruits AFTER the wave, but I cut out the part where I checked it at the end of the wave. It didn't go up and thus I kept walking through them afterwards #3: Not missed, but the way I ended the run - thanks to a tip of a kind Brotato Discord user - he figured I could use something that deals damage to me (like Blood Donation) and I recalled the Rainbow Crate mod to give me a bunch of them with Torture and the Ghost to set my HP to 1. Unluckily, the run lasted until wave 105, so I had to sit through a lot more lag...
The reason the damage doesn't go up at the end of the wave is Jerky, to fix the bug that allowed you to regen HP during pause screen they made it so jerky doesn't work when the game pauses, so you stop regenerating HP by pickups at the end of the wave and you're never at full HP when you vacuum them all in.
The issue is the healing over time for consumables in combination with bonus health depending on materials. It can be fixed by capping your maximum health, so you stay at full health at the end of the wave.
Could a combination of torture and sad tomato have worked too? You start the wave at 50% HP (276.5) and you heal 5hp/sec, so it would take 53.5 seconds to heal to full. In the mean time you would be pulling in every fruit in your pick up range. The benefit to this approach would've been that you keep your Tardigrades since this doesn't involve any form of self damage. You could also cap your hp at 900, then it would take 90 seconds to heal from 450 to 900, which as far as I know is the longest a wave could last.
@@SamMogui Torture + Sad Tomato is how you get the infinite exploding build that he did in the past, but because you're not max hp, you don't gain explosive damage.
Not getting the explosion damage was from a bug that was just fixed in today’s patch regarding Jerky. Jerky was preventing “consumable at max health” effects at end of round
@@DexTag Technically you can still get the benefit with Jerky of course like you did, but the way it prevented the "Consumables at full health" is that the hp regen you get from Jerky stops at the end of the wave, and as such you don't go to full hp. So the only way to get them is to already be at full hp when the wave ends. The first time it happened you had 320/322 hp, so you weren't actually full hp when the wave ended and the fruits got eaten.
@@DexTag And if you haven't gotten it from somewhere else yet, in the later waves you capped your hp at 535, you would then lose a bunch of hp from rolling, and if you got back up to the hp cap you'd not gain max hp as the wave ended and get all the explosive damage.
TTRPG tip: when making a worldmap, just grap a screenshot from when Dex collects the fruits, trace around the massive writhing mass of them, and there's your continents!

So i think the reason you weren't getting the explosive damage was a combination of two things: 1) grind's magical leaf was giving you max hp but not current hp at the end of the game 2) jerky meant that the fruits didn't heal you after the end of the way The thing that fixed it was capping your max hp -- every time you ended the wave with your max hp already at the cap, you got the explosive damage because the grind's magical leaf didn't change your health bar

Dex, I think maybe, the game was lagging at the end with stomach giving you more max HP when you collect fruit and jerky healing over time and all the red feather giving HP at the end of the wave. Making it so you weren’t at max hp when collecting the fruits at the end. But that’s just happening when it lags. When it doesn’t lag it works right and adds the explosion damage. Rewatching it seems like once you locked your max hp it didn’t have an issue. So I think that supports my theory more. Lol sorry, this is just kind of fun researching as I watch
For some reason in some of the earlier scaling-waves the maxHP during the wave was not actually the maxHP of the character and kept increasing over time during the wave, but also during the lockscreen, so we were not at MaxHP when the wave ended. When we reached enough HP over the capped value, we start with full maxHP again. For example: Check out wave 32 (36:48) where we start with ~330 HP and the number keeps increasing. The actual maxHP at this time is 508. Don't know if this is because of jerky though... probably a part of this, since it prevents (prevented? I think it got fixed) healing after the endscreen goes up.
Stumbled on this guy's video, heard him speak one word of german, laugh and losing his mind of fruits... and i think i have found the new Voice Actor for Medic from Team Fortress 2-
35:40 In regards to why picking up the consumables after the wave isn't increasing explosion damage, normally it does(as you said yourself later on). The fault for that is, for the most part, on Jerky (as you correctly guessed later in the video). Most things that increase HP outside the shop only increase max HP but not current, exceptions are the extra somach and level-ups (not sure for grinds magical leaf). Now Jerky turns consumables into heals over time, meaning they can't heal you at the end of the wave anymore, and you got some item that increases your max HP at the end of the wave, but current HP doesn't increase(it's padding, combined with crates and bags, in this case), resulting in empty HP that can't be healed. However when you got the Handcuffs and your HP reached the cap and was fully healed before the end of the wave that couldn't happen anymore. So yeah Jerky just isn't good on farmer or glutton, if you are missing just 1 HP at the end of the wave an entire wave's worth of consumables goes down the drain for nothing.
You might really enjoy the Improved Tooltips mod with how often you forget about things like the Retromation Hoodie, since it shows tooltips with their actual stats rather than their base stats!

I find it's better to just take the 2nd fish hook if it's not cursed after 1 wave. I've spent way too many runs having it locked for 10+ waves and it's never worth it, 70% for 2 and 1 cursed isn't that different from 80% with 2 cursed and 1 normal.
I think the problem with not getting the damage is a combo of Jerky, and Empty Stomach, where you gain extra health from Stomach, but Jerky prevents you from healing as you collect the fruit. And since you aren't at full health, you don't get the extra damage.
Be careful with the Whistle (+50% loot monster spawn) and certainly never curse it to 104%... Those large spawner machines spawn LOOT monsters that that shoot at you and kill your runs almost every time.
They should implement an option to skip the collecting animation at the end of the wave. They also could implement a function, which combines two fruits to one double rated fruit, if they are very close to each other. This should increase the performance a lot without any negative impact for the player.
A couple of those waves where you didn't get the explosive damage at the end you were not at full health. You were close but not at full health. Every wave where you have been at full you got the extra explosive damage. Hopefully that helps to ease your mind.
The game currently looks like it attempts to proc an "eat_fruit" or whatever function that runs like "queue sound effect -> heal if needed -> if not needed for healing, add 1 to each of the relevant stats -> explode" or something for every single fruit pickup at the end of the wave, which is a LOT of processing. I wonder if it'd be more optimized if it instead did something like a "get_remaining_fruits" that counts all the fruits and runs just once. Like, say there are X remaining fruits at the end of the wave, and the Brotato is missing Y amount of health. It'd count the all the fruits, then divide the missing Y health by the amount that each fruit would heal (rounded up to R) and check if X is less than or equal to R. If it is, heal as much as X fruits will heal. If it's more, heal to full and subtract the R from X, then add (X - R) stat points to explosion damage and/or max health and/or whatever else gets proc'd by eating a fruit at full health. Maybe also trigger a single explosion that's (X - R) times as strong as normal and play a modified sound effect (maybe the sound of a queue of 3 or 4 of the original sfx, but as a single sound file). Then all the fruits flying towards the Brotato can just be an animation without any actual processing. Idk how that'd affect performance for waves where there aren't that many remaining fruits, though.
@DexTag Dex, please correct me if I’m wrong, but something there increased your maximum HP, and when you collected Fruit during the wave, you reached the maximum HP that it could add. Then, when you capped your HP at 535, you theoretically couldn’t increase your max HP anymore, so at the end of the wave, you got bonus damage because you reached the maximum HP. Summary -> If you didn’t fully use the item that adds max HP during the wave or didn’t cap your max HP, you didn’t get the bonus DMG at the end.
I think the reason why it lags when you try picking up fruit is because of some bad design decisions on how to search for the fruit to move them / pick them up, so with 2000 fruit, it has to do 2000^2 or about 4 million operations per frame.
Magical leaf increase max hp at the end of the wave, hence fruits that you collected at the end of the wave did not gave bonus stats because you were not max hp, you capped your hp at 535 so when you were at or above that cap fruits started to give stats at the end of the wave
I did a base game run with demon and gatling gun and flame thrower to wave 60. It was insane with over 20 million damage form flamethrowers every round and thousands of flame turreds
I want to be clear. I loved seeing the extreme you did. I just wish you might not have taken so many gardens. So you did not have to suffer with how much lag you had to go threw.

Heads up, scythes are -3 HP/s and are really good for ending your run with weird ghost
The reason the damage doesn't go up at the end of the wave is Jerky, to fix the bug that allowed you to regen HP during pause screen they made it so jerky doesn't work when the game pauses, so you stop regenerating HP by pickups at the end of the wave and you're never at full HP when you vacuum them all in.

devs could do a feature where u turn 100 fruits into 1 giga fruit just because the game cant rly handle this madness

Dex, please correct me if I’m wrong, but something there increased your maximum HP, and when you collected Fruit during the wave, you reached the maximum HP that it could add.
Yeah, right... the video description...
Looking forward to this one after that community post!
I think the reason why it lags when you try picking up fruit is because of some bad design decisions on how to search for the fruit to move them / pick them up, so with 2000 fruit, it has to do 2000^2 or about 4 million operations per frame.
Lol breaking games in the only way dex knows how....😂
Magical leaf increase max hp at the end of the wave, hence fruits that you collected at the end of the wave did not gave bonus stats because you were not max hp, you capped your hp at 535 so when you were at or above that cap fruits started to give stats at the end of the wave
I did a base game run with demon and gatling gun and flame thrower to wave 60. It was insane with over 20 million damage form flamethrowers every round and thousands of flame turreds
Great video. Watched the whole thing
I want to be clear. I loved seeing the extreme you did. I just wish you might not have taken so many gardens. So you did not have to suffer with how much lag you had to go threw.
I can't wait for the next few videos to still have the pickup sound.
29:11 its german
thats how it works in the mobile version, but than again, that version is a practically different game
I think was pretty short knowing Dex, can't believe it
Also, with how you were growing fruit in 0.2 seconds, will you ever try to get 0.1 second?
