  • 131 years ago, on August 25, 1893, this “The Cabinet Roller Organ” (Concert Roller Organ - GEM) was built.
The “Autophone” company in Itacha, New York, produced this type of 20 keys musical machine from 1885 to 1925.
It hasn’t played for many years: the bellows have holes and don’t suck enough to make the reeds play.
So we go to Giovanni Vitiello, in Bologna, who dismantles the instrument, removes the old fabrics, unglues the various woods.
After cleaning everything, he applies new rubberized fabrics and leather valves, reassembles everything and now the restored bellows are ready.
In the meantime, the keys, the mechanical parts for the rotation of the roll and the reeds are cleaned.
    New valve pads are prepared
Once everything is reassembled, the instrument finally starts playing again, magnificently!
Restoration work carried out by Giovanni Vitiello and Flavio Pedrazzini
    Scales: A# - D# - F - G - G# - A - A# - C - D - D# - E - F - G - G# - A - A# - C - D - D# - F
The roll makes 3 turns in a spiral motion, then the mechanism moves the cylinder away from the keys and a spring brings it back to its starting position.
