    After all the vlogs/videos I've watched on youtube, this one has given me more inspiration to shake off the 'why bother' blues and get out with my camera and go ANYWHERE. You mentioned in this video a very specific point that I think affects a lot of amateur photographers and that is, arriving at a place to get to a certain point and take that 'honey pot' photograph, pack up and go home. And far too many RUclipsrs are guilty of exacerbating this expectation of getting that keeper shot, the portfolio image, but as we all know, this invariably, isn't the case, it takes perseverance and a whole lot of time. Anyway Martin, thank you for your video, it was enjoyable and very informative in such a short space of time, I've now subbed.

    What I always observe: there is a nice potential photo, something in the distance, but there is only one spot I pass, from which it looks great to me. So if I move on hoping for the better shot it is not going to happen. And if it is, taking a s3cond shot which is even better doesn't hurt with digital.

    So the 1st look, we see with our eyes, 2nd look we see what the scene looks like on the camera back, and the 3rd look we see is after Post Processing. Therefore when we want to take the picture, do we really want that particular color and exposure ?

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  10 месяцев назад

      Colour no, exposure is for the edit unless you shoot jpeg

    I have what is probably a stupid question. You show us your composition on the lcd holding the camera with one hand and the video camera with the other. Then you show us the image you took. Do you take the actual shot with two hands using the in camera level to make sure the horizon is straight? I cannot imagine shooting one handed, especially in portrait mode, even with IS.

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  11 месяцев назад

      I’m actually doing it one handed cos I didn’t have a mount for the video camera so I had the video camera in one hand and camera in the other and photos are from shooting one handed. I think because the z9 is heavy it’s very stable I had no motion blur but I absolutely hated shooting like this and would use a chest mount in future

    POV is an interesting way to see what the photographer sees, instead of seeing what someone else sees what the photographer is doing, if that makes any sense.

    Some beautiful images there Martin but is that a Z9? I thought you always championed not wasting money on the latest and greatest, what happened 😊 hope you are enjoying it.

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Год назад +4

      yep z9, ive been shooting mirorrless since about 2015 alongside my dslrs. I use mirrorless for work as it makes my job easier and I do a reasonable amount of video work too. So for me they make money. I dont encourage amatuers to waste money on gear they dont need and wont use though. Now my crowd of dslr shooters is shrinking massively so im starting to move the channel with the times but will keep dslr content too for sure.

      @@MartinCasteinlove your new 5D mk2 video! You still gotta sprinkle in videos with older cameras to show that it's not the camera doing the work of good photography. I must admit, even me as a stickler for value got a second hand R6, but I feel that after so many years doing it I can afford to get a fancier camera to use to death now. If I do upgrade anything at this point, it's the old first gen EF 24-105 f4 that takes most of my photos. The 35mm and 150-600 is great for my needs still but the mid zoom does have some weak points especially at f4 in a forest where the lack of corner sharpness really shows in the intricate branches. Either way, no hurry here, but it's a bit funny to use a 250 dollar lens on a 2k camera. Editing sucks but even a tiny bit of white balance, exposure adjustment, and curves will do a heck of a lot to polish an already good photo before printing or sharing widely, even if the jpeg is good enough most of the time.
