I think a factor is whether a player is top of the line or not. Older and lower-level players tend to cost less. With Sony, they often release an extremely expensive Digital Audio Player (say $3,000) first, then sell lower-cost models later. I consider the initial release more a proof-of-concept player than one for the average listening.
Likely due to them being a much more niche market, as the vast majority of people wanting portable audio, will just use their smart phone. So DAP makers have to put in features that smart phones cant or dont offer to make them stand out. That said, i get it. Decent ones seem to cost as much (if not much more) than smart phones. I just wish many of these didnt run Android and they instead developed their own OS/Interface.
@@lyianx That's what I like about Sony's User Interface (UI) for their non-Android Walkman Digital Audio Players. It has been developed for over 15 years and it is nearly perfect. The UI is fairly intuitive so that you rarely have to refer to the Instruction Manual. For me the only small negatives is that: (1) there is no search function and (2) no auto scroll function (you start it and it continues to scroll at a moderate rate until you stop it, which would save a lot of swiping). The small negatives I mentioned only became an issue when you started having the ability to load a massive number of songs on the player. It is similar to the iPod's Scroll Wheel, it is fine when you have to go through a small number of songs/menu items, but when you still have to scroll through hundreds of songs even with the Alphabetic Shortcut it becomes an issue.
That's something that is good about the Sony Walkman Digital Audio Players (DAP) with touchscreens: They also come with physical buttons on the right side of the player for the basic controls (Power, Volume Control, Next Track, Play/Pause, Previous Track, and Hold). Even with a closed case (I consider a protective case essential with a DAP, especially ones with a touchscreen) you can still access the controls.
hehe funny how people still refer to these as "mp3" players given the mp3 format is outdated as far as audio quality and compression goes :P (and also that they play many more formats than just mp3).
I hate to be critical but this is a poor review. A genuine review would have indicated pros and cons of each device which the reviewer will have identified through an extended period of use - e.g. the Sony product, though excellent, sadly delivers low volume. Sorry but I won't be subscribing to this channel.
Why the hell is an MP3 player so much money. Its approaching cellphone territory 😂

This is not a review, but a commercial. He has nothing bad to say about anything. All pros, no cons.
Hate touch screen navigation, makes it very hard to operate when the player is in my pocket. Where it is ALL the time while working out.
Maybe you can try our watch player, wearable mp3 player and with touch screen+button
I like touch screen navigation... for the menus. Any DAP would *require* physical buttons for audio controls.
