God I really love how much experimenting and playing through roads differently pays off in the long run since your own knowledge and experience with different scenarios basically gives you control over your fate regardless of how bad your luck is or who you’re stuck with in the road. I just bought the game again recently after remembering how fun clearing all the roads was 3 years ago and I managed to speed run through most roads until I hit that marathon roadblock again. The new scenarios and characters really sparked some insane fear and uncertainty at times
8:30 you sent an oblivious person in the store that is also one of the best solutions. Oblivious characters can do a lot. Like when you have to stand in a weird line of zombies, with a high composure person you gain the same amount as an oblivious, but it takes an extra day with high composure which can cost you 2-8 food. It’s fun to see how different personalities interact with the world.
For your second review you really did this game justice. Ive poured countless hours trying to be KEPA mode with Kepa intact. Good work, keep up the content grind
Never heard of this game before tbh but thanks for introducing it to us! I like how you make those reviews informative and still entertaining at once. Keep up the great work!
Still can't believe it unintentionally predicted the 2020 toilet paper shortage. I was already invested in the game when people started pointing it out.
WOOOH ROAD TRIP WITH ROI- WAIT WHY ARE WE APPROACHING A CLIFF AT TOP SPEEDS?! Edit : 8:21 nick clearly used the buff known as sigma male plot armor to beat the bandits
I happened upon this gem not too long ago but I've quickly become very addicted. this game is simply amazing, simple, easy to learn but incredibly layered on many different levels. I love the many different levels of complexity and skill curve that this game offers. pretty much one of the best money for entertainment value games I've played on the steam deck. I really can't praise this game enough. 10/10
I'm glad you pointed out how Marathon Mode is so hard, I never really see it being mentioned anywhere. I'd argue it's the hardest mode because zombie size scales WAY too fast. You need to be lucky to get good weapons/companions. Kiting becomes useless when the zombie size scales way too fast early on when you don't have much, and don't have a lot of room to work on. I don't get why they made zombies scale way too fast in Marathon Mode, other modes and even Endless doesn't scale up that fast. I think to have made this review more appealing, you should've mentioned that the game looks boring when you watch it, but when you're the one playing it's a blast
Marathon is ridiculous. You have to know basically every event and special location to max out all your characters skills and get the best weapons if you ever hope to win. I can't even remember how many attempts it took to beat, but I nearly cried when I finally managed it.
@@roiwiez I even made a character, Quanxi (from CSM) to be a Specialist Martial Artist to take advantage of Kung Fu's multi-hit punch on zombies so I have some leverage early on and it didn't really help on Marathon Mode. Not only that, even if you do get lucky enough to get some rare/special loot locations, the RNG can still mess you up like Dark Mansion having a rare item pool of REALLY GREAT weapons but 3 out of 5 times it's gonna give you 4 pokeballs. I make custom characters based on stories/shows/movies/animes and I couldn't really name one paranoid character so the harsh bandit events also messed me up. Usually I would just take the damage check but I run BERSERK! custom characters sometimes and yeaaah.. I need a paranoid custom character. On my 2nd Marathon Mode win though, it was such a breeze. Somehow I got struck by good luck. Same with my Endless Mode run right now, I got Caveman at day 6 which is so great because she's a weak-at-start but very OP once you keep training her stats. Maybe the game pitied me from my many failed attempts at Marathon.
I remember this game. I played it for 8 hour straight when I bought it on mobile and beat it the same day. If I remember correctly I won the run with my custom character. The cave man (woman). a penguin (Not an actual penguin) and some random I pickup who for the sake of me feeling bad I can't remember anything unique about him we'll call joe
On my second attempt to make it to Canada, I made it to the last siege, I finished the siege... All I had to do was go through the exit... I DIED RIGHT AT THE EXIT XD
@@The-S-H3lf-Eater I think so? This game doesn't really have that much of a modding scene, but I'm pretty sure cosmetics like faces and hair are really simple sprites that you can just freely change yourself.
i've started playing this game relatively recently and my favorite part of this game is endless mode. not actually "endless" it is 1,000 days long and in that time you get to make THE GOD OF CHARACTERS, doesn't matter how crappy your stats are, by day 100 they'll probably be all maxed. the start is where it's tough but after you get effective weaponry and immense stat bonuses you'll cleave through hoards of zombies in no time. good for farming zombo points.
Good review. Hard disagree with it being a rouge-like/lite. Think the game is more a trail-lite game It's more inspired by 77's Oregon trail than 1980's rouge

Me and my friend made "Boyfren.PNG" who is dumber than rocks and knows medical and "Girlfren.PNG" Who knows karate and is also dumber than rocks. They've made it to Canada more than our main characters.
Yeah, one of my main characters that my friend uses is a Megabuff Warrior. He starts at max strength so you can pick up anything that isn't nailed down, but thats all he can do. My main is a Gun Collecter Mechanic because shotguns are cool and working vehicles are cooler.
@@Pineappled1987 If you want you can make a character thats a way better combination of the two. Berserk Big Bruiser gives all good stats to fighting stats (strength, fitness, and shooting) and even makes the 3 fighting stats go even further than their max. Way better option than this though is Hidden Potential and Berserk, it gives you 2x the stack for further max stat. The only problem is that Berserk makes your character one-shot which isn't a big issue because there are many events in the game that boosts ur HP anyway
Man, my favorite part of death road to Canada was when Denji from Chainsaw Man said "its chainsaw time!" and sawed my immersion in half.

Great work, Roi! :)
DRtC is really one of the better Oregon Trail-likes. Outdated but still delightful humor, a lot of replay value, etc.
