This storyline is so sad it not fair Meg character is going to die and she is young. Blake and Meg really love each other. She deserves all dreams to come true before she pass away. This storyline made me cry my mum pass away from cancer like Blake mum. Cathy Godbold and Les Hill should got Logie playing this role.

Shows what different times those were. Some young people today, would not be bothered about asking or seeking their blessing. They would just go off and do what they want.
Interesting that Alf was considering the effect it would have emotionally

Truthfully it has more to do with standards and practices of Australian television during the “family hour” in the late eighties/early nineties than anything else. As a longtime fan of “Home and Away” I can tell you that in the early years the show leaned far more conservative than it does today. It was in many ways the Australian version of “The Andy Griffith Show” in regards to the values it aimed to portray to its audience, particularly its young audience. So they had to tread especially carefully here not to be seen condoning casual sex among teenagers. As time has moved forward, Australian television has become a lot less restrictive and we’ve seen many examples on modern “Home and Away” for instance of casual relationships involving characters of all ages. So it isn’t so much that times were different thirty years ago but boundary lines in so much as what “Home and Away” could portray and how they would go about portraying it have shifted. RIP Cathy Godbold.

There's a poster of MAD MAX THUNDERDOME on Blake's bedroom wall. Rebekah Elmaloglou (Sophie) was one of the kids in that movie living in the wastelands.

He had to be. This part of the Blake/Meg saga was written like this because “Home and Away” didn’t want to put out the message that it was okay for teenagers to go away for the weekend. It sounds ridiculous in retrospect especially considering the gravity of Meg’s illness but Alf’s initial resistance was likely the only way the show could’ve gotten this aspect of the story cleared by the network in 1992.
